A Comparison Of Effectiveness Of Three Methods Of Throwing A Basketball For Accuracy, Richard L. Dehn
A Comparison Of Effectiveness Of Three Methods Of Throwing A Basketball For Accuracy, Richard L. Dehn
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the overhand, sldearra or underarm throw was the most accurate. Twenty boys from the Grand Forks, North Dakota, Park Board Babe Huth and Rookie League baseball programs participated in the study. The test activity Included fielding ground balls from different angles and throwing for accuracy using the three methods mentioned. A retest involving seven of the subjects was administered later to determine whether any consistency existed In the methods of throwing being used.
Two statistical comparisons were: (1) a within group comparison Involving the results of the means of the three …

The Cat Flea, Ctenocephalides Felis, As A Potential Vector Of Trypanosoma Lewisi, Robert Patrick Belihar
Theses and Dissertations
The first hemoflagellate was discovered by Valentine in 1841; two years later Gruby established the genus Trypanosoma for a flagel-late in the blood of frogs, and in 1879 Lewis in India described Try-panosoma lewisi Kent of the rat (Belding, 1965:141).
The Effect Of Thiamine And Its Antagonists On Plasma And Tissue Lactic Dehydrogenase In Rats, Dong Hwa Park
The Effect Of Thiamine And Its Antagonists On Plasma And Tissue Lactic Dehydrogenase In Rats, Dong Hwa Park
Theses and Dissertations
The lactic dehydrogenase activity in plasma and tissues was measured in the thiamine-deprived, the oxythiamine-treated and the pyrithiamine-treated rats as well as the control rats. The lactic dehydrogenase levels of brain and kidney were significantly increased by oxythiamine treatment. The enzyme activity in heart was markedly decreased only in the thiamine-deprived rats. Unlike the above tissues, the enzyme levels in liver were decreased by 29-44 per cent in all three types of thiamine deficiency, However, the enzyme activity in plasma was significantly increased only by pyrithiamine administration. The distribution patterns of lactic dehydrogenase isozymes were electrophoretically examined in these deficiencies. …

Weight And Isometric Training In Relation To Certain Aspects Of Golf Performance, Richard L. Wenzel
Weight And Isometric Training In Relation To Certain Aspects Of Golf Performance, Richard L. Wenzel
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine whether a weight lifting and isometric exercise program could be developed, which would enable a golfer to increase his distance off the tee without adversely affecting the accuracy of various golf shots.
One group of ten subjects was used in this study. This group was tested in the fall of 1966 to determine the distance and accuracy with which they could hit the ball off the tee. The golfers were also tested for the degree of accuracy which they possessed in hitting the chip shot both for distance and angle deviation. They …
Marketing Practices Of Selected Dry Cleaners In North Dakota, Marland R. Lee
Marketing Practices Of Selected Dry Cleaners In North Dakota, Marland R. Lee
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis was to describe and analyze the marketing practices of selected North Dakota dry cleaners. The first dry cleaning plants in the state of North Dakota are believed to have been established during the late 1890s. The data used in the study was collected from a sample of full-service dry cleaning plants in North Dakota. A mail questionnaire was employed in the survey.
The results of the survey showed that the average reporting dry cleaning plant in North Dakota was somewhat smaller than the typical dry cleaning plant in the United States. The median gross receipts …

Studies On The Levels Of Acetylcholine In The Brains Of Thiamine-Deprived And Thiamine-Antagonized Rats, Darwin Leroy Cheney
Theses and Dissertations
Thiamine deficiency has been reported to cause nerve degeneration in the peripheral nervous system and hemorrhage with associated cellular damage in the central nervous system (Prickett, 1934). Koedam (1958) observed convulsions in thiamine-deficient pigeons, but convulsions have only rarely been seen in rats (Gubler, 1961). Rats treated with the thiamine antagonist, pyrithiamine (PTh)* always develop ataxia and convulsions but these neurological symptoms have never been reported in those treated with oxythiamine (OTh), another thiamine antagonist (Gubler, 1961). Hosein, Chabrol, and Freedman (1966) concluded that neurological symptoms occur only when the brain thiamine content is diminished to 2.5%o r less of …

Development Of The Marital Dissatisfaction Of Mormon College Couples Over The Early Stages Of The Family Life Cycle, Roy H. Marlowe
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the relationship between stages of the family life cycle during the early years of marriage and marital dissatisfaction. From this basic goal the following three hypotheses were derived and tested:
I. Marital dissatisfaction for both husband and wife is less in the first stage than in the third stage of the family life cycle.
II. For both husband and wife the ideal spouse concept is the same in stage one as in stage three of the family life cycle.
III. For both husband and wife socially undesirable perceived spouse concepts are greater while socially desirable perceived spouse …

The discovery of a substance in rice polishings that was useful in preventing beriberi was first shown by Grijns and Vedder (Wuest, 1962). In 1926, Jansen and Donath (Wuest, 1962} crystallized this substance which was subsequently synthesized independently by Williams and Cline (1936} and Grewe (1936). This substance was named thiamine by Williams (1936) because of its structure having the vital thiazole ring and because it was an "essential amine."

Observations On The Life History Of The Goldeye, Hiodon Alosoides (Rafinesque), In Moccasin Bay On The Little Missouri Arm, Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, Robert N. Hieb
Theses and Dissertations
The life history and population structure of goldeye, Hiodon alosoides (Rafinesque), in Moccasin Bay, Garrison Reservoir, North Dakota, were investigated during 1966 and 1967. This species had not been commercially exploited in this impoundment, but current populations indicate that a commercial fishery can be supported.
A gill net fished from the surface to the bottom captured 885 goldeye in 1966. Total-length, weight, and sex were recorded and scale samples collected. The length-frequency of the catch was plotted, and average rate of growth of seven year-classes was calculated by examination of scales from 365 fish. Length-weight relationships and sex ratios were …

A Survey Of Opinions Pertaining To The Development Of Composition Skill At The Typewriter, Janeth L. Spicer
Theses and Dissertations
This study attempted to analyze and synthesize the opinions of a randomly selected sample of typewriting teachers pertaining to the development of composition skill at the typewriter, in first-year typewriting.
An opinionnaire was mailed to one hundred randomly selected secondary typewriting instructors and of the returns received, seventy- five were usable.
The findings of this study revealed the majority of teachers believed the following about composition at the typewriter:
1. A need exists for standards and guidelines in methodology and for a comprehensive booklet on developing composition skill.
2. A student's typewriting rate (speed and accuracy) affects the amount he …
