Computer Assisted Instructed Materials Dealing With Sound Effects In Poetry For Use In The English Tv Classroom, Peggy Y. Westbrook
Computer Assisted Instructed Materials Dealing With Sound Effects In Poetry For Use In The English Tv Classroom, Peggy Y. Westbrook
Theses and Dissertations
This project includes a survey of the types of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) available for use in secondary English classrooms, 1llustrating that the majority of such programs deal with grammar, vocabulary, and reading objectives. Muscogee County, Georgia, high schools now have Apple computers for use by teachers and students in the classroom and after school. However, most current commercial programs do not meet the specific objectives of the curriculum, especially the English IV curriculum with its emphasis on literature. This project presents a trio of programs based on a portion of the poetry-related objectives of the MCSD English IV curriculum. …

Computer Programs In Intermediate Language Arts For Use In A Rural School System, Wanda M. Stuckey
Theses and Dissertations
This project developed and field tested computer programs in language arts for use in a rural school system. A review of the literature compared the effectiveness of computer-assisted instruction(CAI) in various academic areas, specifically focusing on the English curriculum. Commercially available computer programs from Texas Instruments were reviewed for content and format. Two computer programs were then developed on a TRS-80 color computer; the programs were designed specifically to assist in remedial instruction in the intermediate grades. Two reading skills were reviewed: the concepts of literal versus figurative language and fact versus opinion. The graphics portion of a commercial computer …
A Pale Reflection: American Indian Images In Mormon Arts, P. Jane Hafen
A Pale Reflection: American Indian Images In Mormon Arts, P. Jane Hafen
Theses and Dissertations
American Indians in Mormon arts suffer from the imposition of the white man's traditional ideas, images and stereotypes. An examination of Mormon literature since 1941, Mormon hymns and music, and Mormon visual arts reveals little consideration of Native American values: tribal affiliation, significance of place and community, myth and ritual. While the mainstream of American art has incorporated Native American values into Indian representations, and even found a place for Native American artists, Mormon arts adhere to historical misinterpretations, despite a number of fine Mormon Native American artists.
An Analysis Of Twenty Books For Young Adults In Terms Of Family Characteristics, According To Selected Sociological Variables, Elaine Vann Wise
An Analysis Of Twenty Books For Young Adults In Terms Of Family Characteristics, According To Selected Sociological Variables, Elaine Vann Wise
Theses and Dissertations
An analysis of the families in twenty books, five taken from each of the 1980-1983 lists of Books for Young Adults, was used to determine if the families in the books accurately portrayed the American family. Three instruments were applied to the fictional families to gather information on the family history, characteristics, and relationships.
The families in young adult literature were found to accurately reflect the American family in marital status, number of children per family, and the persons with whom children were living. An unrealistic number of the families, however, were characterized as middle class or affluent. Only two …

A Descriptive Analysis Of The Current Status Of Paid Religious Broadcasting On National Television, Wayne R. Bills
A Descriptive Analysis Of The Current Status Of Paid Religious Broadcasting On National Television, Wayne R. Bills
Theses and Dissertations
In examining the use of paid television by various evangelical organizations (the "Electronic Church") as contrasted with its use by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), several important differences were discovered. First, the programs of the electronic church are usually designed much like a normal Sunday service with a "preacher" and "congregation" (the T.V. viewers). The LDS approach has been to communicate religious principles through the use of a story. Their productions are attractive to a large audience because they often feature a well-known television or motion picture celebrity, and are aired during prime-time viewing hours.

Level Of Marital Adjustment And Spiritual Well-Being Among Latter-Day Saints, Robert W. Reynolds
Level Of Marital Adjustment And Spiritual Well-Being Among Latter-Day Saints, Robert W. Reynolds
Theses and Dissertations
This research will focus specifically on SWB [spiritual well being] among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). By virtue of his membership in this denomination, the researcher is more familiar with the theology, religious life and traditions of the LDS than those of any other denomination. Latter-day Saint theology has been well defined, and because of a fundamental belief in the prophetic ability of a single leader of the church, the doctrine and practices of the Latter-day Saints are consistent throughout the United States and the world.

The Effects Of Seismic Blasting On Shallow Water Wells And Aquifers In Western North Dakota, Frank W. Beaver Jr. P. E.
Theses and Dissertations
Seismographic petroleum exploration throughout North Dakota has generated concern over the effects of blasting on groundwater supplies and wells. A preliminary investigation revealed complaints alleging declining productivity and decreased water quality in regions where coal aquifers are extensively used. Unplugged shotholes were frequently cited as a source of problems.
Experimental results indicate that changes due to blasting occur within long term physical the aquifers rather than in specific water wells. Pumping tests conducted in a sand and coal aquifer system showed no apparent physical effects when shots were detonated one quarter mile away from the pumping wells. Shots 500 feet …

This study focused on the experiences writers perceived to be important in the act of naming.Literary and psychological concepts of the writer throughout history were examined and the philosophical views of Merleau-Ponty and Walker Percy that specifically pertain to naming and …
