A Comparison Of Physical Fitness Levels Between Male Honor Freshmen Students Enrolled In Physical Education 101 At The University Of North Dakota, Douglass A. Hallatt

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to compare the physical fitness levels of male freshmen honor students and male freshmen students enrolled in physical Education 101 at the University of North Dakota.

This study was directly concerned with physical fitness as measured by the American Association for Health, physical Education, and Recreation Physical Fitness Test. The students involved were all freshmen male students enrolled in the required physical education service program and twenty-seven of the forty-seven male freshmen honor students at the University of North Dakota.

The test was administered to both groups the sixth week of the first semester …

An X-Ray Study Of Cluster Formation In Liquid Mixtures, Daniel K. Sorgen Jun 1966

An X-Ray Study Of Cluster Formation In Liquid Mixtures, Daniel K. Sorgen

Theses and Dissertations

Other workers have attributed the anomalous absorption of ultrasonic waves in certain liquid mixtures as being due to the formation of molecule clusters. A study was performed on two binary liquid mixtures employing small angle scattering of x-rays. Water-tertiary butanol mixtures and ethanol-glycerin mixtures were each studied in various concentrations.

The scattered intensity was measured as a function of scattering angle. Certain necessary corrections on the raw data were performed. Using this corrected data a Guinier plot was made for each solution studied. From the Guinier plot it was possible to determine a radius of gyration for the clusters in …

The Weberian Osteology Of Three Utah Suckers (Catostomidae), William James Stubbs May 1966

The Weberian Osteology Of Three Utah Suckers (Catostomidae), William James Stubbs

Theses and Dissertations

The Weberian mechanisms of three Utah Lake suckers (Catostomidae: Catostominae; Catostomini), Catostomus fecundus Cope and Yarrow, Chasmistes liorus Jordan, and Catostomus ardens Jordan and Gilbert, were examined, described, and compared, and a statistical analysis was made of some of their more important differences. The mechanisms were found to be basically similar to one another and to those of other Catostomini as previously described and/or illustrated. They are individually distinct, but each varies within its own limits, the intraspecific variation being greatest in the wider-ranging Catostomus ardens and least in the seemingly most restricted Catostomus fecundus. From the evidence at hand …

Refinements In The Isomer Distribution And Relative Rate Of Sulfonation Of Toluene And Hydrochlorination Of Olefins With Stannic Chloride Catalyst, David George Guillot May 1966

Refinements In The Isomer Distribution And Relative Rate Of Sulfonation Of Toluene And Hydrochlorination Of Olefins With Stannic Chloride Catalyst, David George Guillot

Theses and Dissertations

The sulfonation of toluene at -12.5° C. with sulfur trioxide in liquid sulfur dioxide was found to give 10.03 ± 0.20 % ortho, 0.73 ± 0.20 % meta and 89.24 ± 0.20 % para isomers. This isomer distribution was determined by isotope dilution analysis using sulfur-35 enriched sulfur trioxide. After dilution of aliquots of the neutralized sulfonation mixture with pure sodium salts of each of the isomers prepared from the corresponding toluidines, the isomers were converted to the p-toluidine salts, purified by recrystallization, and counted by liquid scintillation counting. The relative rate of sulfonation of toluene compared to benzene was …

Theses and Dissertations

The problem was to determine the frequency and nature of injuries sustained by students in athletics and in physical education classes in grades seven through twelve in the Grand Forks Public School System from 1960-1965. Data were gathered from the school accident fund claim sheets which were kept at the office of the North Dakota High School Activities Association and at the secondary schools 1n Grand Forks.

Of the 307 reported Injuries during the five years, 142 were sustained during physical education classes and 140 during athletic competition. The remaining 25 injuries occurred in classrooms and in other school facilities. …

Non-Objectivity In Nature, Donald L. Lerud May 1966

Non-Objectivity In Nature, Donald L. Lerud

Theses and Dissertations

It is the purpose of this thesis to explore the role of nature \ ' as it is linked to the non-objective artists of fee twentieth century and to discuss fee role of the artist1s creative spirit.

ifimt fee artist sees in nature differs from what exists in nature and the problem of relating nature to fee artist’s personal reality becomes complex. Visual sensations induced by nature and acquired by the artists have expanded due to the new concepts of nature. These concepts require fee artist to feel fee dynamic energies of nature as well as its outside appearance. The …

Mormon Colonization Of The San Luis Valley, Colorado, 1878-1900, Judson Harold Flower Jr.

Theses and Dissertations

In the late 1870's, missionary successes in the southern states prompted the search for a location to which the new converts could migrate and establish their homes among the Saints in "Zion." The area eventually decided upon for the location of the southern converts was the San Luis Valley, in southern Colorado. Elder John Morgan, the most prominent figure in the early missionary work in the South, was given the leading role in bringing southern converts to the settlements which were to be established in the San Luis Valley. The initial settlement of Saints in the valley took place in …

A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland Jan 1966

A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland

Theses and Dissertations

Previous studies have indicated that the moral development of the child may follow a "developmental" process. That is, the child progresses through an invariant series of stages, each characterized by certain modes of thought. As the child passes from one stage to another, he integrates the old stage into the new one. Kohlberg proposed a hierarchy of six stages through which the child would progress on his way to moral maturity. His hypothesis has been supported by empirical evidence.

Research findings have indicated that the Mormon culture appeared to be different in values and moral behavior than other United States …

The Synthesis Of 4-Spiro-2-Aryloxazolines Of Potential Pharmacological Interest, Paul Waddell Collins Jan 1966

The Synthesis Of 4-Spiro-2-Aryloxazolines Of Potential Pharmacological Interest, Paul Waddell Collins

Theses and Dissertations

Numerous and diverse physiological actions are found among 2-oxazoline compounds. No reports of the synthesis or biological testing of 4-spiro-2-aryl-2-oxazolines were found in the literature. On the basis of the known pharmacological activities of certain aza- and diazaspirans, it was felt that 4-spiro-2-aryl-2-oxazolines should possess medicinal activity. In particular, it was reasoned that the combination in a bicyclic spiro structure of the 2-oxazoline ring with rings systems commonly found in synthetic antitussive compounds might result in active antitussive agents.

The aim of this research was the synthesis of a series· of 2-aryl-2-oxazoline-4-spirocyclopentanes and a series of 1'-methyl-2-aryl-2-oxazoline-4-spiro-4’-piperidines. Six members were …

A Proposal For A Section Of An Lds Church History Textbook For High School Students Containing The History Of The Church From 1898 To 1951, Arthur R. Bassett Jan 1966

A Proposal For A Section Of An Lds Church History Textbook For High School Students Containing The History Of The Church From 1898 To 1951, Arthur R. Bassett

Theses and Dissertations

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been organized for over one hundred and thirty-six years. The history of nearly a century of that time--1866 to the present--has not been adequately dealt with in any single book currently available for use on the high school level as an L. D. S. seminary text. The objective of this field project was to produce textual materials covering a fifty-three year portion of this period--the portion 1898-1951.

Church history material relative to this period was gathered and organized in a biographical framework centering in the lives and administration of the four …
