The goal of this study was to explore the prevalence rates of substance abuse in women that are at risk of eating disorders. At the present time there are no formal treatment programs that address the unique needs of clients with both eating disorders and substance abuse problems. Most agenices will treat these disorders separately.

This study provides a building block for future studies to further explore the meanings of Alcholics Anonymous (A.A.) and what makes it work. It specfically focused on the effects of A.A. on court mandated substance abuse treatment programs. Social workers may not always understand A.A.'s impact because there are no 'experts' providing services, yet it works because of the peer support system within the group and Social Workers need to encourage clients to participate in the court mandated treatment as part of their recovery.

This study analyzed the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and USA Today's contributions to portraying the 2009 Henry L. Gates arrest. This study is interested in finding out how nationally circulated mainstream dailies and weeklies framed the indident and Gates' image within their news coverage. This study also seeks to find out how the media constructed race. Most importantly, this study seeks to uncover racial stereotypes as they relate to race and social status.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the overall job satisfaction of employees that work in nonprofit organizations that have religious names. The study used individual survey methods to collect its data. Participants for this study were recruited from paid employees of Catholic Charities of San Bernardino and Riverside (CCSBR), one of the largest non-profit organizations in the Inland Empire. A total of 48 employees participated in this study.

The purpose of this research study was to explore the level of knowledge among Master's of Social Work (MSW) students regarding the effects of parental incarceration on the children and families involved, and the special needs that result from this experience. This study utilized an online survey targeting MSW students at three Southern California Schools of Social Work to assess their overall knowledge of this topic, how this knowledge was attained, and level of competence and confidence that the respondents felt in meeting the psycho-social needs of the population. A total of 70 surveys were completed by the target respondents.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a descriptive analysis of the effect of parental involvement on educational engagement among Mexican children. This study utilized a sample of 50 Mexican parents surveyed at the Rubidoux Swap meet in Rubidoux, California to examine parental involvement in their child's education. The purpose of this study was to investigate sexual assault disclosure reactions and psychological symptoms. It was predicted that negative disclosure reactions would be positively correlated with psychological symptoms and positive disclosure reactions would be negatively correlated with psychological symptoms. Participants include twenty-nine females who had previously experienced a sexual assault. Each participant filled out several on-line questionnaires.

The purpose of this study is to explore whether social workers can recognize depression in the elderly. The elderly who are experiencing depression usually do not seek treatment from mental health professionals. Instead they go to primary care personnel in medical settings. Yet, social workers are employed in medical settings and are part of the primary care personnel. But, often the medical and/or mental health communities' lack of recognition of late life depression results from the attitude that old age is innately a downward spiral into limitations, weakness, helplessness, and burdensome existence.

This study looked at the Senior Peer Counseling Program to see what motivated these seniors to volunteer. Much research has been done on voluteering and the older adult population, much of it showing the benefits of volunteering on the health and well-being of the seniors that volunteer. The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health's Agewise program has has a Senior Peer Counseling Program in effect since 1987 and increased it through MHSA (Mental Health Services Act) funding in 2007.

The purpose of this study was to examine participants' perceptions on the effectiveness of the "Parents in Partnership" program (PIP) of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Parents in Partnership (PIP) is a collaborative effort between the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and parent partner paraprofessionals toward facilitation of safe reunification and permanency through education, support and mentoring of birth parents. The program's sole goal is the timely and safe reunification of children and their families. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with fourteen participants in the PIP program. Both mentors and mentees were interviewed.

If a sex trafficking victim is identified what services are offered to commercially sexually exploited juvenile females. In the Inland Empire many young women are at risk of becoming victims of sexual exploitation and minimal services are available for prevention or safehouses. This study attempted to assess and explore the attitudes of African immigrants towards HIV testing and seeking HIV services in the U.S. The pool of HIV/AIDS cases among blacks at risk in the United States does not clearly distinguish between African Americans and Black African immigrants in regard to attitudes on HIV testing. A closer exploration of African immigrants as specific black sub-groups within the larger group of blacks or African Americans infected with HIV may help distinguish and explain the increase in incidents and high risk behaviors among blacks.

The purpose of this study is to explore foster parents' perspectives' on factors contributing to multiple placements of young children with a special emphasis on infants ages 0-1 year. This study hopes to identify systemic problems within child welfare services that hinder permanency and to provide useful information to determine if current services and interventions are effective in meeting the agency's responsibility of providing safe and permanent homes for foster children.
