This project is designed to present the extent to which native English speakers (NESs) and nonnative English speakers NNESs) detect errors in NNESs' oral output. It also aims to shed light on the error of perception of participants from different first-language (L1) backgrounds, and intends to uncover the possible underlying reasons of the variations in their detection rates.

This thesis aims to investigate the issues surrounding California's Proposition 227, an important language policy passed in June of 1998 which drastically limited bilingual education. This proposition requires that all public school systems be in English only. Using a method known as Critical Discourse Analysis, this study exposes the underlying bias embedded in the discourse of newspaper articles from: the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register, and the Sacramento Bee. The purpose of this study was to compare cultural competence between graduating Bachelor of Nursing students and Master of Social Work students. The study participants consisted of 107 students who were graduating from either the MSW program or the Bachelor of Nursing program at California State University, San Bernardino. Participants were asked to complete a cultural competence survey and quantitative data analysis was utilized to compare cultural competence among respondents.

The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between cultural loyalty and attachment, and career aspirations and their perceived realistic career among college students. The participants used for this study consists of fifty-six students attending the California State University, San Bernardino. Data was collected through paper surveys at both the Student Assistance In Learning (SAIL) office in the University Hall building, and outside the Santos Manuel Student Union.

The purpose of this study is to suggest ways in which educators can foster a consciousness of academic success with Latino English language learners in high school using self-efficacy and social capital as assets. The concentration of this study is to look at the English language learner population at Vista Valley High School. A total of twelve students participated in this study. Each student will be interviewed twice with at least six additional students being interviewed a third time.

This study examined the effect of a workshop with simulated clinical interpersonal skills practice and conversational analysis on second-year nursing students' interpersonal communication skills. The ultimate goal of the present researcher is to empower nursing students with the knowledge and skills to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team. The target population consists of second-year nursing students, with the accessible population at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). The Latino population in the United States seeks mental health services at a lower rate. This is due to barriers in accessing the services they encountered.
