Theses
Cloud seeding has emerged as a significant alternative freshwater source in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is employed to manipulate weather conditions and increase precipitation in specific target regions. These efforts aim to densify clouds and enhance the likelihood of rainfall by inducing nucleation. This technique involves an operational crew aboard an aircraft that disperses substantial quantities of seeding particles, such as salts or silver iodide, into suitable clouds. These particles can serve as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and indirectly affect the rate of rainfall. In 2018, cloud seeding operations were responsible for approximately 10-15% of the UAE's total …

Identifying Frogeye Leaf Spot Resistance In Two Elite Soybean Populations And Analysis Of Agronomic Traits In Resistant Lines, Kelsey Smith
Theses
Soybeans (Glycine max L.) are an important crop globally for its food, feed, and oilpurposes. It is impacted by many diseases, including Cercospora sojina, the causal agent of Frogeye Leaf Spot (FLS). Chemical and cultural controls to this fungal pathogen are insufficient, so genetic resistance must be acquired for adequate control. To this end, two recombinant inbred populations were screened in a greenhouse setting for their relative resistance to FLS, and their genomes were analyzed for contributing quantitative trait loci (QTL). In the Essex ́ Forrest population, one QTL was discovered on chromosome 13, and in the Forrest ́ Williams …

Land Cover Image Segmentation Based On Individual Class Binary Segmentation, Sathyanarayanan Somasunder
Theses
Remote sensing techniques have been developed over the past decades to acquire data without being in contact of the target object or data source. Their application on land-cover image segmentation has attracted significant attention in recent years. With the help of satellites, scientists and researchers can collect and store high resolution image data that can be further processed, segmented, and classified. However, these research results have not yet been synthesized to provide coherent guidance on the effect of variant land-cover segmentation processes. In this paper, we present a novel model that augments segmentation using smaller networks to segment individual classes. …

The Role Of Irak-1 Transcripts In Sepsis, Adithya Subramanian Sahasranamam
The Role Of Irak-1 Transcripts In Sepsis, Adithya Subramanian Sahasranamam
Theses
Sepsis is a complex, life-threatening syndrome that can lead to systemic organ failure and dysfunction. Its high morbidity and mortality rates makes it a critical global health issue. The primary factors at play during sepsis are abnormal inflammation and a lack of oxygen supply to the tissues and muscles. The toll-like receptors play a crucial role in eliciting innate immune in response to infection, primarily through the interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase (IRAK) pathways. Disturbances in the homeostasis of IRAK signaling cascades can lead to immune dysfunction. n this paper, we review the molecular mechanisms of IRAK-1, an important mediator of TLR-induced …
Real Time Analysis Of Eye Movements Using Computer Aided Software, Farhan Ahmad
Real Time Analysis Of Eye Movements Using Computer Aided Software, Farhan Ahmad
Theses
Eye movement analysis is a slow and tasking job that require a trained vision analyst to sift through hundreds of eye movements. The difficulty of the task increases when a subject has undiagnosed eye related disorders. One such disorder is Convergence insufficiency (CI) which affects nearly 12 million people in the US. Convergence insufficiency occurs when the eyes are unable to coordinate simultaneous inward movement for near focal tracking. Individuals with CI are unable to coordinate eye movements this can result in many symptoms such as double vision, blurred vision, headaches, vision strain, and fatigue. A diagnosis for CI relies …

The purpose of this study is to generate a potential alternative to current AIDC approaches by constructing three-dimensional plastic tags (or ‘3D QR codes’) using additive manufacturing techniques and interrogate them using Terahertz radiation. 3D Quick Response (QR) codes are designed in 3D computer-aided design software. The QR codes are 3D structures embedded in the printed plastic in which an air gap in the plastic (or an air gap filled in with another type of plastic) indicates a bit of information. Information …
Rm-Net: Rasterizing Markov Signals To Images For Deep Learning, Kajal Gupta
Rm-Net: Rasterizing Markov Signals To Images For Deep Learning, Kajal Gupta
Theses
Statistical machine learning approaches are quite famous for processing Markov signal data. They can model unobserved states and learn certain characteristics particular to a signal with good accuracy. However, with the advent of Deep learning the novice ways of solving a problem has shifted towards this more sophisticated algorithm, which is much better, powerful and more accurate. Specifically, Convolutional Neural Nets (CNN) have shown many promising results on images and videos. Here we illustrate how CNN can be applied to a 1D numeric signal using signal rasterization technique. We start by rasterizing a 1D numeric Markov signal into an image …
Stationary Probability Distributions Of Stochastic Gradient Descent And The Success And Failure Of The Diffusion Approximation, William Joseph Mccann
Stationary Probability Distributions Of Stochastic Gradient Descent And The Success And Failure Of The Diffusion Approximation, William Joseph Mccann
Theses
In this thesis, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), an optimization method originally popular due to its computational efficiency, is analyzed using Markov chain methods. We compute both numerically, and in some cases analytically, the stationary probability distributions (invariant measures) for the SGD Markov operator over all step sizes or learning rates. The stationary probability distributions provide insight into how the long-time behavior of SGD samples the objective function minimum.
A key focus of this thesis is to provide a systematic study in one dimension comparing the exact SGD stationary distributions to the Fokker-Planck diffusion approximation equations —which are commonly used in …
