Dark Current And Persistence In Hgcdte-On-Si Infrared Detectors, Lazar Buntic May 2026

Dark Current And Persistence In Hgcdte-On-Si Infrared Detectors, Lazar Buntic

Theses

This thesis investigates the performance of Raytheon’s mercury-cadmium-telluride-on-silicon (MCT-on-Si) infrared detector arrays, with particular emphasis on the impact of the heteroepitaxial silicon growth process on dark current and persistence characteristics. Infrared detectors have been the cornerstone of astronomical discovery for the past four decades and remain essential for current and future flagship observatories, including the James Webb Space Telescope and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. Traditionally, the highest-performance HgCdTe (MCT) arrays are grown on lattice-matched cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) substrates, which are costly and limited in size. To enable low-cost, large-format arrays, Raytheon developed a process for growth of MCT on …

Adaptive Insider Threat Detection With Graph-Based Models, Rashed Hassan Nasser Alrazooqi May 2026

Adaptive Insider Threat Detection With Graph-Based Models, Rashed Hassan Nasser Alrazooqi

Theses

Insider threats represent one of the most challenging categories of cybersecurity risk facing modern organizations. Traditional detection approaches based on fixed rules, static thresholds, and signature databases are not effective for capturing the subtle and evolving nature of insider behaviour. This work proposes and implements a multi-stage unsupervised analytical framework for insider threat detection based on large-scale NetFlow telemetry. The framework operates through five interconnected stages: memory-efficient chunk-based streaming ingestion of raw NetFlow records, hourly temporal segmentation of host-level traffic statistics, composite anomaly scoring combining logarithmically scaled byte volume and flow frequency, weighted host-to-host communication graph construction with greedy modularity …

Representative And Preferred Skin Color Rendition Of Photos And Avatars In Optical-See Through Augmented Reality, Dara Dimoff May 2026

Representative And Preferred Skin Color Rendition Of Photos And Avatars In Optical-See Through Augmented Reality, Dara Dimoff

Theses

Human skin color is embedded with information about mood, health, and age. While facial color is widely studied in dermatology and cosmetics, there is limited data available to map the subjective experience of skin color to measured data. The ability to derive the color that best represents a person’s skin would be valuable in a wide range of applications, from identifying an appropriate makeup foundation to achieving white balance in a video. When displaying skin tones, it is well-known that preferred renderings are different from accurate renderings. Rendering skin tones becomes more nuanced with complex rendering technologies such as augmented …

Theses

Dubai World Central is being developed to support a major expansion of Dubai’s aviation capacity. Its planned scale raises questions beyond terminal construction and technology pro- curement because airlines, airport operators and government authorities must coordinate passenger processing while maintaining security, public confidence and operational continu- ity. This thesis examines how airport operating models and end-to-end passenger processing may evolve during 2035–2045 and assesses the strategic readiness implications for DWC. A qualitative, desk-based design was adopted using peer-reviewed research, official aviation publications, government documents, airport implementation evidence and selected industry reports. The analysis combined PEST horizon scanning, a technology-readiness assessment, …

A Study Of Post -Quantum Cryptography Migration In An Emulated Enterprise Environment, Saquib Farooq Malik May 2026

A Study Of Post -Quantum Cryptography Migration In An Emulated Enterprise Environment, Saquib Farooq Malik

Theses

The imminent maturation of Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computers (CRQCs) represents a fundamental threat to the digital security infrastructure, specifically targeting modern cryptographic standards such as AES, RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). While Post -Quantum Cryptography (PQC) offers a mathematical defense, the transition is complicated by the “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later ” (HNDL) strategy, where encrypted data is intercepted today for future decryption. This thesis explores the critical necessity of an organized migration strategy to protect long-term data sensitivity against the rapid advancement of quantum capabilities and addresses the gaps in the current migration landscape: the absence of a standardized, …

Energy Loss Hotspot Mapping In Power Distribution Networks, Abdulla Alhammadi May 2026

Energy Loss Hotspot Mapping In Power Distribution Networks, Abdulla Alhammadi

Theses

The electricity systems used in power distribution in the United States also consume a lot of electricity to warm up until it gets to homes, business or industries. These are technical losses which are caused by the physical resistance of the aging electrical equipment like transformers, conductors and distribution lines. With the aging of infrastructure, the resistance rises, and the amount of wasted energy increases. Although this is a large problem, most utility companies continue to use rough age estimations or customer complaints instead of using more direct and objective data-driven techniques to determine the concentration of the worst losses. …

Political Legacies Of Malcolm X, Sumair Ahluwalia May 2026

Political Legacies Of Malcolm X, Sumair Ahluwalia

Theses

This study explores the ways in which Malcolm X’s legacy has been co-opted by various institutions and actors, including, but not limited to, politicians, historians, the general public, the federal government, and other commentators. As a result of this co-optation, Malcolm’s revolutionary ideals have been diluted or sanitized in the years since his assassination in 1965. Different approaches have been utilized to reframe Malcolm’s legacy, which include associating him with American liberalism, framing his arguments at the end of his life as markedly less radical, and external interference with popular works about Malcolm, including The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Additionally, …

Traumatic Stress Recruits An Excitatory Orbitofrontal-Amygdala Pathway To Drive Maladaptive Aggression, Mikaela Aholt May 2026

Traumatic Stress Recruits An Excitatory Orbitofrontal-Amygdala Pathway To Drive Maladaptive Aggression, Mikaela Aholt

Theses

Traumatic stress is a reliable predictor of heightened aggression, yet the mechanisms linking stress exposure to aggression remain poorly understood. The Nordman lab previously found that traumatic stress activates the posterior ventral segment of the medial amygdala (MeApv) to drive persistent increases in aggressive behavior. However, why traumatic stress would engage an aggression-promoting pathway is unclear. To address this, the inputs to the MeApv were mapped and a population of excitatory, but not inhibitory, neurons in layer 5 of the medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC) were identified. The OFC is classically viewed as an inhibitory brake on amygdala-driven impulses, yet emerging …

Study Of Global Panel Of Soybean Accessions For Nitrogen Use Efficiency Using Association Mapping, Rita Bhandari May 2026

Study Of Global Panel Of Soybean Accessions For Nitrogen Use Efficiency Using Association Mapping, Rita Bhandari

Theses

Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) is a leguminous crop valued for its high protein, oil content, and other essential nutrients. Global production has significantly increased, with Brazil, the United States, and Argentina being the leading producers. In the U.S., Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota rank as the top soybean-producing states. Nitrogen (N) is a predominant nutrient required for optimal soybean growth and productivity, particularly in high-yielding varieties. While biological nitrogen fixation and soil mineral N supply part of the plant’s N requirement, synthetic fertilizers are commonly used to meet the remaining demand. However, only 30–50% of applied N is taken up …

Evaluation Of Otolith Microchemistry For Identifying Walleye Stocked As Fry Or Fingerlings, Joshua Fluur May 2026

Evaluation Of Otolith Microchemistry For Identifying Walleye Stocked As Fry Or Fingerlings, Joshua Fluur

Theses

Walleye (Sander vitreus) is a popular sport fish whose populations are often supported by maintenance or supplemental stocking, with most fish stocked as fry, fingerlings, or advanced fingerlings. Evaluation of stocking efficacy is important to inform decisions regarding fish stocking rates and sizes and allocating hatchery fish to locations where maintenance or supplemental stocking is most needed. Several types of artificial tags or marks have been proven useful in the identification of stocked fish, but they often have various drawbacks. Natural chemical markers in otoliths offer several advantages compared to conventional tags or marks and can be used to identify …

Indiana Bat Population Dynamics In The Midst Of Climate Change And White-Nose Syndrome, Lexie Ann Schwartz May 2026

Indiana Bat Population Dynamics In The Midst Of Climate Change And White-Nose Syndrome, Lexie Ann Schwartz

Theses

Climate change and emerging diseases are altering species distributions and ecosystem dynamics worldwide. For temperate insectivorous bats in North America, food availability and winter climate influence hibernation energetics and survival. As climate warming alters insect phenology, these changes are likely to have an impact on hibernating bats. Many cavernicolous bats in North America are also threatened by white-nose syndrome (WNS), a newly emerged fungal disease devastating bat populations. This study examined the distribution of hibernating Indiana bats (Myotis sodalis) over time throughout their range. I used long-term weather data to simulate seasonal insect availability, the spring and autumn transitory periods, …

The Making Of Shi'a Resistance In Afghanistan: Historical Roots, Communist Rule, And Soviet Occupation, 1978–1989, Sayed Sajjad Hojet May 2026

The Making Of Shi'a Resistance In Afghanistan: Historical Roots, Communist Rule, And Soviet Occupation, 1978–1989, Sayed Sajjad Hojet

Theses

This thesis examines Shi'a political mobilization in Afghanistan from the 1978 Saur Revolution through the Soviet occupation, ending in 1989. It argues that Shi'a resistance was not simply a religious reaction to Marxist rule but a complex movement shaped by long-term marginalization, influenced by rival political ideas, and connected to cross-border networks in Iran. It traces how persecution under Amir Abdurrahman Khan created a system of political exclusion that shaped Shi'a collective identity before the communist takeover, and how ideologies such Marxism and Political Islam further politicized Shi'a youth in the mid-twentieth century. The PDPA's coercive policies after 1978 helped …

Avoiding White Elephants: An Empirical Assessment On The Failure Of Airport Capacity To Drive Tourism Receipts, Somanithel Kheang May 2026

Avoiding White Elephants: An Empirical Assessment On The Failure Of Airport Capacity To Drive Tourism Receipts, Somanithel Kheang

Theses

This study investigates the relationship between airport infrastructure capacity and international tourism receipts across 12 major Asian and European economies from 2000 to 2019. Using a Panel Fixed Effects framework, the analysis tests the "Supply-Led Growth" hypothesis to determine if physical infrastructure expansion independently drives tourism revenue. To address potential endogeneity and reverse causality, the study employs specification where all independent variables are lagged by one year. The empirical results yield a robust null finding: airport capacity does not exhibit a statistically significant impact on tourism receipts. Conversely, government consumption is identified as a potent driver of tourism performance, with a …

Resurrecting The Lost City Of Kaskaskia: An Archival, Gis, And Archaeological Investigation Of Illinois’ First Capital, Rebecca Ramey

Theses

This thesis centers around the question of how much remains of historical Kaskaskia, Illinois in the archaeological context, and examines the common historical narrative and its lack of inclusion of non-white voices. Kaskaskia was a vibrant, diasporic community that shaped the founding of Illinois. Through archival research, ArcGIS, geophysical surveys, and an archaeological investigation, this thesis proves that it is possible to bring those voices back through the archaeological record. Kaskaskia has long been ignored by the broader research community, and this thesis aims to show just how much potential Kaskaskia has at contributing to our understanding of the founding …

Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Equitable Post Disaster Resource Allocation Incorporating Social Vulnerability, Trevor John Mogaka May 2026

Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Equitable Post Disaster Resource Allocation Incorporating Social Vulnerability, Trevor John Mogaka

Theses

Prior Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) approaches frame post‑disaster recovery as a sequential decision-making problem over infrastructure elements, using graph-based system models and resilience-oriented rewards. This thesis builds on an existing DRL framework by introducing a modified CDC Social Vulnerability Index (mCDC-SVI), developed using Max-min scaling, to quantify social vulnerability.A synthetic interdependent infrastructure testbed is divided into four socio‑economic regions using federal poverty and SNAP eligibility guidelines. The DRL simulation and Deep Q‑Network architecture are retrained under a multi-objective reward function that is efficiency-equity weighted (α:β). Agents are evaluated across unconstrained and constrained budget scenarios to examine how varying α and …

Development Of Chemical Reaction Airbag Safety System For Multi-Rotor Uav To Mitigate Free-Fall Collision Impact, Brady Kent Villiger May 2026

Development Of Chemical Reaction Airbag Safety System For Multi-Rotor Uav To Mitigate Free-Fall Collision Impact, Brady Kent Villiger

Theses

With Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) becoming more advanced, the demand of companies that plan to use them for commercial use has only increased. Amazon plans to use UAVs for shipping purposes, Esri uses UAVs for surveying purposes, and many government organizations use UAVs for search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, and power line inspection. With all these uses, UAV safety becomes a major concern. If a UAV were to fail mid-flight there would be an issue if it collided with a person or an expensive piece of equipment after a free-fall. In this paper, the proposed safety system would be a …

Two Centuries Of Sexism In British Parliament: A Computational Analysis Of Women’S Representation In The Hansard Corpus, Mandira Sawkar Apr 2026

Two Centuries Of Sexism In British Parliament: A Computational Analysis Of Women’S Representation In The Hansard Corpus, Mandira Sawkar

Theses

Detecting sexism and gender bias in text is a central problem in NLP, yet most existing work focuses on short, informal content such as social media posts. In contrast, much less is known about how sexism operates in long-form, formal discourse, where it is often expressed indirectly through rhetorical framing, appeals to tradition, or references to gender roles. Parliamentary debates offer a particularly rich setting for studying such language, but their scale, linguistic complexity, use of archaic English, and the presence of distributional shift across centuries make systematic analysis challenging and historically infeasible without automation. In this work, we analyse …

3d Infographic Animation Series Unleashing The Mechanism Of Disease (Mod) Of Ventricular Tachycardias In Cellular And Molecular Levels: Afterdepolarization Subtypes And Triggered Activity, Yan Ning ‘Harmony’ Wong Apr 2026

3d Infographic Animation Series Unleashing The Mechanism Of Disease (Mod) Of Ventricular Tachycardias In Cellular And Molecular Levels: Afterdepolarization Subtypes And Triggered Activity, Yan Ning ‘Harmony’ Wong

Theses

Ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) account for 75-80% of sudden cardiac deaths, causing 184,000 to 450,000 deaths annually in the U.S. VAs commonly occur in individuals with structural heart diseases, but idiopathic ventricular tachycardias (VTs) caused by delayed afterdepolarizations (DADs), early afterdepolarizations (EADs) and triggered activity, can also arise due to calcium ion discrepancies without apparent structural abnormalities. Despite advances in understanding abnormal impulse conduction, there is a paucity of visual aids that explain impulse formation anomalies of VTs. There are no 3D animations that link ECG interpretation to molecular dynamics in the cardiac EC coupling process. Moreover, ECG interpretation skills are …

Dynamic Control Of Active Optical Structures Using Fea-Derived State-Space Models, Damian Suarez Apr 2026

Dynamic Control Of Active Optical Structures Using Fea-Derived State-Space Models, Damian Suarez

Theses

Active optical systems commonly use influence coefficient methods to map actuator commands to surface deformation, but these static models only describe steady-state behavior and do not capture transient or frequency-dependent structural dynamics. This work develops a finite element analysis (FEA)-derived state-space framework for active optical control by reducing an ANSYS deformable mirror model into modal coordinates and mapping structural deformation into optical Zernike space. The framework is used to compare three control strategies: static feedforward inversion, LQI feedback tracking, and a combined LQR–feedforward controller under steady-state and time-varying Zernike setpoints. The results show that feedforward control provides rapid static correction, …

Automatic Modulation Classification On Satellite Communications Across Orbital Domains, Lorraine (Raina) Freeman Apr 2026

Automatic Modulation Classification On Satellite Communications Across Orbital Domains, Lorraine (Raina) Freeman

Theses

In recent years, the space domain has exploded with both commercial and government activity, making situational awareness critically important. In this work, we highlight the need for signal intelligence capabilities that can transfer gracefully from terrestrial systems to space networks. This already difficult task is additionally complicated by the fact that satellites operate at multiple different orbits. Geostationary (GEO) satellites face significantly different channel conditions than their Low Earth Orbit (LEO) counterparts, meaning that any cross-orbital signal analysis tool must be able to handle widely varying conditions. Such tools may soon be critical for identifying satellites and detecting malicious cyber …

Spatiotemporal Accident Prediction In Arid Climates: Integrating Weather And Infrastructure Data Using Geohashing, Aishah Almarzooqi

Theses

Adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rainfall and associated flooding, pose significant challenges to road safety and emergency response in Dubai, UAE. The existing road infrastructure, primarily designed for arid conditions, often struggles to cope with these infrequent yet severe events, leading to increased traffic accidents and hindered access to critical services. While current research in the UAE has explored traffic accidents, there is a notable gap in predictive modeling that integrates granular meteorological data with specific spatial characteristics to quantify accident risk with high spatiotemporal precision. To address this, this research investigates the comparative performance of ensemble machine learning …

What If You Were My Fucked Up Dad And I Was Your Fucked Up Boy And We Cried Together, Ferris Ramirez

Theses

When I was six, maybe seven, my father said I would be disowned if I ended up a faggot. Twenty years have passed since I learned to perform as someone else around my father. As I come to terms with our irreparable estrangement, I present a question to the father I fail to connect with and to an imagined man: What if you were my fucked up dad and I was your fucked up boy and we cried together? This line of inquiry is the very title of my multimedia series, framing concepts of projection, queer desire, fatherhood, role-playing, and …

Expedited Internet Bypass Protocol (Eibp) For Inter-As Routing, Tejas Ramakant Mhadgut Apr 2026

Expedited Internet Bypass Protocol (Eibp) For Inter-As Routing, Tejas Ramakant Mhadgut

Theses

Inter-AS link failures in conventional routing architectures are recovered through a combination of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) hold-timer expiry, Link State Advertisement (LSA) flooding, and network-wide Forwarding Information Base (FIB) recomputation, a process that produces data plane outages measurable in seconds and affects every routing node in the involved Autonomous Systems (AS) regardless of topological relevance. This report presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a failure recovery mechanism for Expedited Internet Bypass Protocol (EIBP), a label-based routing protocol in which forwarding decisions are derived from structured tier addresses rather than distributed routing tables. The implemented mechanism comprises three components: …
