A Music Program Assessment Instrument Based On Widely Held Music Education Goals, Jerry Arana

Theses

The students, parents and teachers of Christian Brothers College High School were surveyed to determine their degree of satisfaction with the music program there. The survey was compiled from literature regarding music education.

Data were gathered by devising and administering an assessment instrument utilizing a set of 15 goals as advocated by leaders in music education. The sample consisted of 69 music students, 66 of their parents, and 32 faculty members from Christian Brothers College High School .

It was hypothesized that :

1. There would be no difference between the mean scores of parents, students and faculty .

Structuralism is an interdisciplinary form of modern painting that suggests the illusion of movement and growth through the conscious manipulation of flat colors and abstract geometric forms. The practice of Structuralism involves more than a grasp of the craft of painting. The artist is required to understand and practice the laws of proportion as founded by the early Egyptians and Greeks. He must have an understanding of modern color theory and he must master and practice the laws of visual perception as stated by the Gestalt psychologist, David Katz.

This project involved the creation of a curriculum guide for gifted art students at the middle school level. The Xerox Network System is composed of heterogeneous processors connected across a variety of transmission media A series of protocols is defined to describe the communication mechanisms between system elements. One of these protocols, the Filing Protocol, defines a general purpose file management system. Current implementations of the protocol, although derived from the Xerox specification, fall short of providing the interconnectivity between elements desired in a heterogeneous network system. During the design and creation of linkage-type mechanisms, visualization of linkage motion is extremely important. However, there does not appear to be a commercially available computer package for accomplishing visualization interactively. Most linkage design packages allow animation of linkage motion only after tedious part description (and debug) using cryptic input codes. This report represents an analysis of the determination of the information content in a selected pair of system data points from the input/output of the plant. The given system contains a random variation condition which leads to the introduction of an adaptive control loop. A procedure for adaptive control is proposed, based upon the information content in the selected pair, for implementation in a microcomputer-based system. This curriculum is designed to provide appropriate communication programming for the multi-handicapped student functioning at a developmental age of 0-24 months. It is conceptually based on the developmental theory of Piaget and the movement-based model of communication of van Dijk. Goals included are the development of causality, object permanence, and imitation as well as receptive and expressive language development.

Information is given on how to assess individual children and how to adapt the curriculum to meet their special needs.

Steady State Stress Distribution And Force Transmissibility Of A Rotating Disk Of Variable Thickness, John Ole Hansen

The governing equations of the transverse vibration of a spinning disk of varying thickness are derived and solved using numerical integration techniques. A clamped-free rotating annular disk driven at the outer edge with sinusoidally varying force is considered for analysis. Representative graphs showing the stress distribution and the frequency dependence of the force transmissibility of the disk are presented. Results obtained in this paper are compared as applicable to results of previous investigations.

It is known that two microbial populations competing purely and simply for a common substrate cannot coexist in a steady state in an environment which is spatially homogeneous. Hence they cannot coexist in a chemostat something which implies that a mixed culture of two pure and simple competitors cannot be maintained in a single ideal reactor in a steady state. Commercially available aromatic diamines such as 4,4'-oxydianiline and 4,4'-methylenedianiline were treated with N-acetamidobenzenesulfonyl chloride to give the amino-sulfonamido-acetanilide derivatives. These derivatives were treated with 6M hydrochloric acid to give the demine monomers containing a preformed sulfonamide linkage. These monomers were polymerized with various bisimide diacids using the Yamazaki reaction. Polymerizations involving a low temperature solution technique were also investigated. The polymers obtained were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and dilute solution viscosity. Inherent viscosities of the prepared polymers ranged from 0.08 to 0.54 dL/gm. In spite of low inherent viscosities, the polymers had film forming …

CMOS technology has provided an integrated circuit equivalent for the conventional electromechanical switch: the transmission gate. CMOS analog transmission gates degrade signals passed through them with noise due to gate clock feedthrough transients. A SPICE parameter model for the Eastman Kodak CMOS process has been developed and timing requirements for feedthrough cancellation in typically structured transmission gate devices have been studied. An alternate device structure for improved performance is proposed.

This thesis discusses the vibration of a thin, flat cantilever aluminum plate. Results are based on both an analytical finite element method using the ANSYS program and an experimental analysis using a digital Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyzer. The FFT analyzer permits extraction of modal parameters (natural frequency, damping, mode shape) for the plate.

Mobility, resistivity, and total impurity concentration of several purchased p-type silicon samples with known resistivities were measured by Hall effect, experiments utilizing the Van Der Pauw method. The silicon samples will serve as Hall effect standards for future measurements on other semiconductor materials, particularly gallium nitride ion cluster beam (ICB) deposited thin films. The samples which were Freshly etched with hydrofluoric acid had measurement values of 455 cm ² / V.sec, 45.9 Ω cm, and 2.6 X 10¹⁴ cm³ for mobility, resistivity, and total impurity concentration, respectively.
