Theoretical Analysis Of Universal Joint With Manufacturing And Assembly Tolerances, Xiaosong Liu
Theoretical Analysis Of Universal Joint With Manufacturing And Assembly Tolerances, Xiaosong Liu
Theses
The model for a Cardan joint with manufacturing and assembly tolerances is a spatial four-bar mechanism with one rotating and three cylindrical joints. In this thesis, dual-number coordinate transformation matrices and Newtonian mechanics are applied to provide a concise description of the kinetics of the universal joint. The dual-Euler equations are used to derive the dynamic equations of the Cardan joint. The analytical technique presented here yields explicit expressions. It will provide the designer with better insight into the workings of the kinematics and dynamics of the Cardan joint.
The equations of statics and dynamics of the frictionless universal joint …
Recursive System Identification Using Least Squares Method, Gholamreza Ghorbani Moghadam
Recursive System Identification Using Least Squares Method, Gholamreza Ghorbani Moghadam
Theses
Input and output sampling, in addition to computer simulations, are now an integral part of system identification. In this thesis, the concept of analyzing any time invariant continuous deterministic system will be developed by identifying a linear discrete - time system equivalent to the continuous one. In this method, two computer programs are written in pascal. The first program applies the Recursive Least Squares Method to discrete - time systems in order to estimate the system components. The second program estimates the future output of the system. Four systems have then identified using the programs.
In this process, system identification …
Equation Of Interaction Diagrams For Prestressed Concrete Columns, Angamuthu Palaniappan
Equation Of Interaction Diagrams For Prestressed Concrete Columns, Angamuthu Palaniappan
Theses
A general analysis and design equation for prestressed concrete column is proposed. This equation represents the strength interaction diagrams of prestressed concrete columns under bending about one axis and combined with axial load. The equation proposed is a modification of the one developed by Dr. Hsu, C.T. Thomas for reinforced concrete columns published in the ACI structural journal in 1988. The analytical results were compared with the results of tests on 30 eccentrically loaded prestressed columns reported by H.R. Brown and A.S. Hall. The results were in good agreement with the static analysis and the above mentioned test reports. The …

Experimental Study Of Rectangular And Square Concrete Member Under Combined Biaxial Bending And Tension, Ming-Hua Shiau
Theses
The proposed research is based on an equation developed by Dr. Hsu, which represents the strength interaction diagrams and failure surface for reinforced concrete rectangular and square columns under combined biaxial bending and axial load. In this research, two rectangular columns and two square columns subject to biaxial bending and tension were tested and compared with the proposed failure surface equation. This study shows that the experimental test results achieve more strengths then those calculated by the equation of failure surface.
Evaluation Of Sorting Algorithm Performance On Single Instruction Multiple Data Machines, Dong Kuen Yang
Evaluation Of Sorting Algorithm Performance On Single Instruction Multiple Data Machines, Dong Kuen Yang
Theses
Partitioning an application program into several tasks and executing them via parallel processing is one way to increase computation throughput and performance. But with a uniprocessor system, the performance increase will be minimal. Computer scientists have developed several multiprocessor systems to gain more speed in computation.
There are several computer architectures, such as pipeline machines, array processors and multiprocessor systems. They provide a parallel execution environment to increase the execution speed. But as the system becomes more complex, the communication traffic density between several processors increases more heavily. It has to provide some kind of control algorithm or routing function …
Adaptive Transform Coding Of Video With Motion Compensation And Vector Quantization, Jung-Hui Chien
Adaptive Transform Coding Of Video With Motion Compensation And Vector Quantization, Jung-Hui Chien
Theses
This thesis proposes an efficient transform coding scheme for the low bit rate video sequence. The redundancy within adjacent video frame is exploited by motion compensated interframe prediction using the efficient independent orthogonal search technique, and the motion compensated frame difference (MCFD) signal is transform coding by 1-D DCT, 1-D HDCT and 2-D DCT, the coefficients are zonal masked, and vector quantizatied adaptively. The encoded MCFD as well as the motion information and variance grouping (side informations) are transmitted to the receiver to reconstruct the frame. The transform MCFD signal is classified into the four groups according to the coefficient …

The Study Of Paper Surface Efficiency, Wandee Charoenpholphibool
The Study Of Paper Surface Efficiency, Wandee Charoenpholphibool
Theses
Paper surface efficiency (PSE) is a response resulting from the combination of paper gloss and oil absorptivity. A review of previous studies regarding the effect of paper surface efficiency on printed process color appearance is presented. This previous work related densitometric responses to PSE in terms of hue error and grayness. This current study investigated the PSE response in a similar manner, but densitometric responses were replaced by colorimetry. The colorimetric terms used were chroma (C*), huedifference (AH*), and lightness(L*). These correspond to hue error and grayness of the densitometric responses. Simple linear regression models relating the PSE and each …

First Impression : The Study Of Entry In Architecture, Siriwan Polpuech
First Impression : The Study Of Entry In Architecture, Siriwan Polpuech
Theses
Entrance as an element of architecture has had an important role in the design process from the very beginning of the architecture. Its role varies according to culture and the belief of people. The characteristics of entrances are as diversified as are architectural style and historic periods.
Architectural styles continue to change. New forms and technologies add to the growth of styles. All these contribute to the eclectic of design ideas. The specifics of an entrance can arise from, be complementary to or in contradiction of a style. They always serve as a mediator between interior and exterior spaces. The …
Computerize Data Information For Architecture Design, Syau-Yi Yu
Computerize Data Information For Architecture Design, Syau-Yi Yu
Theses
Computer-aided architectural design is technically and commercially feasible yet experience in the architectural profession to date is paradoxical. Many who apply computers to architecture appear satisfied but the tangible benefits are seldom obvious and even where computers are used in firms it is not done to the fullest potential. Contents of this thesis are an attempt to help architecture better utilize the advantages of computer applications. To do this it is important to examine two question: what is design and what is the computer? They are similar yet distinct. Architectural design is a special kind of problem solving process; an information …
Effects Of N>M Clos Networks On Edge Coloring And Matrix Decomposition Algorithms, Ming-Hsing Lin
Effects Of N>M Clos Networks On Edge Coloring And Matrix Decomposition Algorithms, Ming-Hsing Lin
Theses
Considered in this thesis are n > m Clos networks on edge coloring and matrix decomposition algorithms. This work uses a two-fold approach to examine the effects of n > m Clos networks on edge coloring and matrix decomposition algorithms. First, edge coloring and matching on bipartite multigraphs are applied to routing on Clos networks. It is demonstrated that edge coloring algorithms which find a minimum edge coloring set up the routing for n > m Clos networks with redundancy. The results presented here indicate that the Euler coloring algorithm has applications on n > m Clos networks because it has fast time complexity …

Protocol Processing Delay Analysis On Ethernet By Simulation Of Njit Ethernet, Jagdish Gangrimal Rangwani
Protocol Processing Delay Analysis On Ethernet By Simulation Of Njit Ethernet, Jagdish Gangrimal Rangwani
Theses
CSMA/CD based Local Area Networks account for about 75% of the installed LAN base today. As these networks are becoming available for high channel bandwidth, it is important to identify the bottlenecks in these networks. As channels are becoming high speed, bottleneck is shifting from channel to protocol processing. This delay depends on a particular implementation of the protocol and not the protocol standard itself.
This Thesis presents the analysis of delay on Ethernet. To achieve realistic results NJIT Ethernet, as it is configured, is modelled and simulated. Traffic on this network is measured and load on each segment is …

Optimization Of Throughput And Stability For Csma/Cd Channel, Liangshyng Jou
Theses
Multiple access technologies plays an important role in designing distributed computer communication system. Here, CSMA/CD has attracted researchers' attentions in the last ten years. In this paper, based on attributions of the slotted, nonpersistent CSMA/CD system, performance of CSMA/CD channel is analyzed. Adaptive Retransmission Technique is adopted to obtain the maximum throughput. Also, equilibrium contours are derived to discuss the stability of the system. And use FET to measure the stability of CSMA/CD channel that FET gives an approximate measure of the average uptime of an unstable channel.

Being Of Shape: Being -- The Ground Through Which All Things Are, Ruth Schultz
Being Of Shape: Being -- The Ground Through Which All Things Are, Ruth Schultz
Theses
On these pages my intention is to address personal concerns about shape. 'Being of Shape' recognizes roots in form building of past centuries but concerns itself with shape development of this century. The intent here is not to define the words form and shape but to describe them in terms of painting. The paper will expand upon and support the paintings. Particularly, the paintings' forward, backward, and sideward progression is marked by considerations other than the history of painting. Perceptions about my nature and mental outlook as they exist in this world excite questions. Words written by those who have …
The Attempted Synthesis Of Novel Bis(Quadridentate) Niobium(Iv) Complexes And The Analyses Of The Products Resulting From The Attempted Synthesis Of Tetrakis (8-Hydroxyquinolinato) Niobium (Iv), John R. Pinkes
Theses
Four previously reported quadridentate ligands were synthesized, and the attempts made to synthesize the corresponding bis(quadridentate)niobium( IV) complexes are documented. Attempts made to synthesize the previously reported tetrakis(bidentate) niobium ( IV) complexes of benzoyltrifluoroacetylacetone (Nb(BTA)O1 and of 8- hydroxyquinoline (Nb(8-Q)4)t are also discussed. Though neither of the desired complexes was synthesized, the resulting complexes from the attempted synthesis of the Nb(8-Q)4 complex, and their subsequent analyses, are examined in detail. Along with the ligand syntheses and the attempted coraplexations , modifications in the experimental techniques and the apparatus are also discussed .

Theses
This science curriculum on the flower and simple and compound machines was developed for sixth grade. It was designed to include the objectives suggested by the Core Competencies and Key Skills for Missouri Schools. It was designed to give practice in the process skills. The author felt the need for this curriculum to fill the gap between what our local science curriculum offers and what the State Department of Education suggests that we teach.
Research indicates that the sixth grade science curriculum should provide the opportunity for children to learn science concepts and conceptual schemes, and to become familiar with …
A Shift Variant Filter Applied To Edge Trace Analysis, David C. Johnson
A Shift Variant Filter Applied To Edge Trace Analysis, David C. Johnson
Theses
A shift variant filter that automatically locates edge toe and shoulder points was used to reduce the noise in the plateau regions of simulated edges having uncorrelated noise. Edges were generated from Gaussian and triangle spread functions and represent edges produced by linear imaging systems only. Versions of these having flare were also used. For comparison a simple "chop" filter was applied to the same edges. Optical Transfer Functions were generated from the 12 categories of edges, ie. unfiltered, shift variant filtered, and chop filtered for each edge type. Modulation transfer functions of these were compared with MTFs of noiseless …
Modification Of Structurally Different Polymers Downstream Of A Microwave Plasma, J. Patrick Kusior
Modification Of Structurally Different Polymers Downstream Of A Microwave Plasma, J. Patrick Kusior
Theses
Since the mid 1960's there have been numerous papers published on the modification of organic polymers in a pure oxygen or oxygen-f luorocarbon plasma. In terms of this thesis, chemical modification occurs when a polymer is either passivated (fluorinated) or etched. Many parameters influence the degree to which a polymer is modified downstream of a microwave (MW) plasma. Some of the parameters include: substrate temperature, MW power, gas feed composition, chamber pressure and total gas flow rate; the latter two determine the gas flow velocity. One of the more important parameters, in the case of polyimide (PI), which influences etching, …
