Dynamics Of Blood Coagulation, Jie Gao
Dynamics Of Blood Coagulation, Jie Gao
Theses
In this paper we present a new method to analyze whole blood coagulation dynamics. Using a PC-286 computer equipped with a DASH-16 AID board.
The row data from a SONOCLOT analyzer is amplified and digitized on the DASH-16 A/D board and stored in the PC-286 hard disk. The data is filtered through a digital Butterworth filter. The filtered data is then fit to mathematical relationship by the least square method. The coefficients which define the mathematical relationships are used to identify blood specimens with normal coagulation dynamics as distinguished from specimens with abnormal dynamics.
The digital filter and curve-fitting routine …
Microwave Gaas Mesfet Nonlinearity And Large-Signal Modeling, Yan He
Microwave Gaas Mesfet Nonlinearity And Large-Signal Modeling, Yan He
Theses
The nonlinearity analysis for a 0.5μm gate length microwave GaAs metal-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MESFET) by HP85150B Microwave Design System was investigated. The analysis starts with the construction of a large-signal MESFET equivalent circuit model. This model consists of bias dependent elements that were extracted by the optimization of DC and small-signal S-parameter measurement data. The details on this construction procedure are included in this work. The MESFET third-order intermodulation distortion was then simulated by HP85150B Microwave Design System. Reasonable agreement was obtained between simulation and measurement results. Microwave GaAs MESFET nonlinearity principles and large-signal modeling technique review are also presented. …
The Flow Approach To Swept Volume, Haitao Jiang
The Flow Approach To Swept Volume, Haitao Jiang
Theses
In this thesis, a method for representing swept volume based on the sweep differential equation and sweep vector field flow is developed. This method can be used to determine the boundary representation of a swept volume generated by any polygonal object undergoing a general smooth 2-D sweep. For any given sweep and object, a. set of candidate boundary points is computed using a selection criterion based on vector field behavior. The set of candidate boundary points is then trimmed in order to obtain the true boundary of the swept volume. This trimming procedure is based on some simple topological principles …
Application Of Imaging Pyrometry For Remote Temperature Measurements, Michael B. Kaplinsky
Application Of Imaging Pyrometry For Remote Temperature Measurements, Michael B. Kaplinsky
Theses
The radiometric model of an IR image sensor has been developed. Based on this model, the application of imaging pyrometry to remote temperature measurements has been investigated. This analysis provides the estimation of temperature accuracy achievable by imaging pyrometry in conjunction with a number of radiometric methods. The detection of radiation emitted across the full spectral bandwidth of the imager as well as utilization of narrow-passband filters was analyzed for a target with known emissivity.
The methods of two-wavelength ratio radiometry and multi-wavelength radiometry were considered for the targets with unknown emissivity. The optimal selection of the wavelengths for the …
Computerizing Occupational Safety And Health Information, James Luke
Computerizing Occupational Safety And Health Information, James Luke
Theses
Various regulations increase the responsibility of employers to retain appropriate safety and health information, for as long as several years. Handling this increasing volume of safety and health information manually is impractical, time consuming and hence, not at all cost effective.
The purpose of this research is to examine the various aspects of computerizing safety and health information, and to evaluate a number of commercially available safety software packages.
This paper initially discusses the impact of OSHA on retaining safety and health information, and the different areas which can benefit from computerization. It also provides guidelines to analyze existing safety …
Stepwise Reduction And Approximation Method For Performance Analysis Of Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets, Jinming Ma
Stepwise Reduction And Approximation Method For Performance Analysis Of Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets, Jinming Ma
Theses
This thesis delves into the performance analysis of generalized stochastic Petri net (GSPN) model by using an approximation method: the Stepwise Reduction and Approximation (SRA) Method. The key point is that we are able to analyze a subnet in isolation by keeping its token flow direction and its sub-throughput equivalent with all the possible tokens entering into the subnet. The thesis first defines various kinds of potentially reducible subnets, subnet selection rules, approximation subnet construction rules, and reduction evaluation rules. Then corresponding to the possible subnets, the approximation method is used stepwisely until the interested measures are found with the …

Heat Resistance Measurements With The Portable Calorimeter Box, Philipp G. Mohr
Theses
The heat resistance of wall section materials has been investigated under laboratory conditions, but reliable measurements in-situ with non-steady weather conditions are not yet available. The portable calorimeter box is designed to make field measurements to test the thermal performance of building envelopes. The experimental setup and the equipment for thermal measurements are described, as well as the computer program for data reduction. The characteristics of the portable calorimeter box and the problems of non-controllable test conditions have been investigated.
Forty experiments were completed. Sixteen preliminary experiments investigated problems associated with insufficient setups; such as a short duration, only partly …
Forward Kinematics Solution Of A Special Class Of General Stewart Platforms, Jian Li
Forward Kinematics Solution Of A Special Class Of General Stewart Platforms, Jian Li
Theses
A Stewart platform is a fully parallel, six-degree-of-freedom manipulator mechanism. A platform manipulator has a fixed platform acting as base, a mobile platform on which end-effector is mounted, and in-parallel kinematics chains (legs) between the two platforms. Although some direct position kinematics solutions for Stewart platforms of simplified geometry have been represented, to the best of our knowledge, no close-form direct kinematics solution for the general Stewart platform is available yet.
A common feature of six-degree-of-freedom Stewart platform of simplified geometry is the use of pairs of concentric ball joints. Due to inevitable manufacturing and assembly errors, practically there are …
Development Of A Model For An Objective Minimum Resolvable Temperature Difference Characterization Of An Infrared Camera, Christine Issa Mourad
Development Of A Model For An Objective Minimum Resolvable Temperature Difference Characterization Of An Infrared Camera, Christine Issa Mourad
Theses
The parameter almost universally adopted by the infrared community for describing the overall performance of a thermal imaging camera is the minimum resolvable temperature difference. Unfortunately, this criterion is subjectively determined by a group of observers and as a consequence significantly varying results can be obtained at different times. This project describes work on an approach which ultimately aims to replace the observers by a computer-aided installation that simulates the human process by which the MRTD is estimated. The simulation is based on a direct measurement of signal to noise ratio in the image of the target and a determination …
A Direct Method For Surface Structure Recovering Based On Uoff, Ping Lin
A Direct Method For Surface Structure Recovering Based On Uoff, Ping Lin
Theses
The unified optical flow field (UOFF) theory which can be used for estimating motion and recovering surface structure was recently established in [9, 10]. The direct method developed in [2, 3, 4, 6, 7] does not need to explicitly solve the optical flow field and to find feature correspondence. Based on the UOFF, a direct method in space domain is developed to reconstruct the curved surface structure characterized by an Nth degree polynomial equation from a pair of stereo images. The initial work on this new method was reported in [8, 11].
In this study, I basically work on simulation …

Torque And Current Response Due To Singularity Changes Of Induction Machine Slip, Jessie G. Orpilla
Torque And Current Response Due To Singularity Changes Of Induction Machine Slip, Jessie G. Orpilla
Theses
Recognizing that the prime purpose of the 3 phase induction motor is to deliver torque with minimum line current. This thesis studies the torque as well as the current response produced by the singularity changes in the induction machine slip. It is desirable that the torque to be maximized for a given value of line current at the corresponding load slip.
This thesis analyzes the torque and current response, when a slip at no-load is changed to a unit-step, Qu(t), a unit-impulse, Qδ(t), a pulse characterized by Q[u(t)-u(t-T)], a unit-ramp, Qt, and a sinusoidal, Qsint, slip. The responses are analyzed …

Protocol Conformance Test Generation Using Circular Uio With Overlapping, Sesharao Patchipala
Theses
The purpose of the protocol conformance testing is to ensure that protocol implementations are consistent with their specifications. After the U-method was introduced, several test methods based on the Unique Input/Output (UI0) sequences which were the main concept in the U-method have been proposed, namely, the RCP-method, MUIO-method, MUIO with overlapping method, B-method, C-method. A good test sequence must be short and have wide fault coverage. By comparing the test sequences generated by the above test methods based on experimental results, reveals that the test sequences by the MUIO with overlapping method are the worst in quality but their lengths …

Translation Of Images On The Hypercube Using Leaf Codes, Bhavesh Patel
Theses
Image processing is used for manipulation of pictorial images. Image analysis applications are typically characterized by the need to process large quantities of image data. Some of the important transformations or operations which are car¬ried out by image processing systems are translation, scaling, superposition and rotation. Algorithms have been developed to carry out these transformations on image regions represented by quadtrees. Gargantini introduced an algorithm to translate an image region represented by a linear quadtree or leafcodes. A linear quadtree is a space efficient data structure used for storing digital images. Ziavras et.al. have proposed a modification of Gargantini's algorithm …

Cause And Effect Diagrams For Process Analysis And Control, Philip Thomas
Theses
Cause and effect diagrams can be used as an effective tool for identifying the possible causes of a quality problem. Using this diagram one can go deep into the causes of the problem and take proper remedial action. Several graphical techniques like matrix diagrams, systematic diagrams, etc., can be combined with this tool to better represent the cause effect relationships. While a quantitative approach of this technique is feasible but limited, there are useful applications based on qualitative approach to this technique. The objective of this thesis is to propose a quantitative approach to the cause and effect diagrams especially …

Bausch & Lomb Food Service: An Analysis Of An Independent Business And Food Service Industry From The Customers Perspective, Richard Mcqueen
Theses
A customer satisfaction survey was developed from six focus groups sessions. The areas identified for analysis included price, quality, stock available, variety, and customer service. Analysis of the survey indicated that the price was the most sensitive issue. Quality of food rated well while there was some dissatisfaction with our variety of entrees, grill items, and soups. The amount of food in stock was satisfactory. Customer service ratings were high. This instrument can be used again to identify incremental changes in satisfaction levels as perceived by the customer.
Teaching Moments Of Truth In Dining Room Management And Operations, Elizabeth Schaible
Teaching Moments Of Truth In Dining Room Management And Operations, Elizabeth Schaible
Theses
Educators are challenged every day to continuously improve the quality of their teaching methods in order to meet the expectations of their students, the customer. In the hospitality management department of a major urban university, the teaching of quality service in a dining room management laboratory setting lacks a formal and quantifiable feedback system to measure guest satisfaction. Such a feedback system is hypothesized to have an impact on the student's learning of quality service delivery. A literature review discusses information concerning quality service management, customer satisfaction measurement, and a detailing of a procedural and convivial service dimensions model as …

Hospitality education, as a vocationally oriented field of study, must provide the student not only with theoretical concepts, but also with a series of skills that the student will use in the work place. These skills include problem analysis and decision making, team building, and the relationship of the hotel business variables (Occupancy, Profits and Guest Satisfaction). Simulation gaming techniques are thought to be very effective methods to develop these skills. In simulations participants imitate actions required on the job and are actively involved in the processes of learning and skills acquisition. The Hotel Management Simulation/Game is a simulation technique …
Prelude To Teambuilding: The Nature Of Modernity, Fred Klein
Prelude To Teambuilding: The Nature Of Modernity, Fred Klein
Theses
Professional management defines itself by the particularistic (dominant) view that shapes the form and conduct of its activities. Modern management theory and practice is primarily the outcome of the greater espoused views of positivistic science. This has permeated a conscription to an attitude that is considered "factually" appropos to conduct research and inquiry. "Reality" has thus become categorized to derivatives of Newtonian science. While there is no disputation that this perspective and its conjointed methodology has a basis in the confluences that interact on materialistic reality (objective world), newer insights dispute its absolutistic form. The principle import of the newer …
