A Human Resource Manual For Registered Nurse Managers Working In Non-Hospital Settings, Jane Elizabeth Gausch
A Human Resource Manual For Registered Nurse Managers Working In Non-Hospital Settings, Jane Elizabeth Gausch
Theses
"Becoming a successful manager in a health care agency is, for most new managers, an awesome and extremely challenging goal. Most new managers have little idea of the complexities of a management position and of the difficulties they will encounter" (Dajvidhaizar 65). Ever more, nurses are finding employment opportunities in small business environments and without the services of the human resource management department that is available to their counterparts in traditional hospital settings. Due to changes in the way health-care is being delivered, there is a pressing need for today's nurse manager to be better prepared than in the past. …
Court Decisions Defining The Americans With Disabilities Act For Businesses, Peggy R. Shaw
Court Decisions Defining The Americans With Disabilities Act For Businesses, Peggy R. Shaw
Theses
This thesis documents how the impact of court decisions will define the terms of The Americans With Disabilities Act.
Research on The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) shows the lack of clearly defined terms in the regulations. Terms like essential functions, reasonable accommodation, and undue hardship may have different meanings for each individual business.
The Americans With Disabilities Act is not a group rights piece of legislation. Individuals having a like disability may have dissimilar needs of accommodation. All muscular dystrophy patients, for example, do not have like symptoms or progression of the disease. At different stages each individual will …
Electronic Commerce And The Communication Of Information, Donna Carroll Bigelow
Electronic Commerce And The Communication Of Information, Donna Carroll Bigelow
Theses
Electronic Commerce is a relatively new phenomenon in today's market place. Commerce or the buying and selling of goods and services can take many forms. In the early years of computerization. commercial activities revolved around the exchange of financial data between businesses and banks (Electronic Funds Transfer). Then businesses began exploring the transfer of data in an electronic format between individual businesses in the form of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Over time much broader types of business transactions began occurring. Data exchange included inventory items, marketing. sales materials, product design. Items which were sent via mail took on an electronic …
Characteristics And Criteria Of Effective Training, Michelle D. Yepsen
Characteristics And Criteria Of Effective Training, Michelle D. Yepsen
Theses
This thesis was written to center on the difficulties faced when delivering quality training to today's businesses.
Approaches to training change every year with the additions to technology, but some aspects of the field will remain the same. No matter what type of program is being designed, instructors must assess their students beforehand to ensure that training will provide what is needed.
So often, off-the-shelf training is used without consideration to the audience. The literature reviewed suggested that trainers need to tune into their subjects and work on their communication skills. Also, corporations have objectives that they expect to be …

Deconstruction, Existentialism, And Art, Ryutaro Furuhashi
Deconstruction, Existentialism, And Art, Ryutaro Furuhashi
Theses
My thesis is about deconstruction of existentialism through visual images, or more precisely, deconstructive visual representations of existential themes. The question of human existence has been a primal interest in my work. What is the meaning of existence? How can I make sense of man's unique intellectual capacity to question one's own existence? My concern is not so much about coming up with the answer, but to have a language to disclose the condition. In the past, my work was merely the ambiguous expression of the existential feeling without any particular conceptual foundation. My work is now a manifestation of …

The results indicated that teachers were unwilling to teach a longer school year/day unless they were compensated for …
Current Practices In The Use Of Thematic Picture Projective Techniques In Social-Emotional Assessment: A Survey Of Practitioners, Dave Thomas
Theses
The current study investigated the status of the use of thematic picture projective techniques (TPP's) and other social-emotional-behavioral assessment techniques among practicing school psychologists. A total of 1 ,400 surveys were mailed to practicing school psychologists across the country. The return rate was 30%. This study looked at four factors: training in the use of TPP's, attitudes regarding TPP's, current practices in the use of TPP's, and current practices in social-emotional assessment. Results indicate that TPP's are used only rarely in assessment of socialemotional- behavioral concerns even though they are perceived by most school psychologists as somewhat to very valuable. …

A Cfd Study Of Fluid Flow Characteristics In The Vicinity Of A Truncated Sphere In A Long, Narrow Channel, Chukwuemeka Ikenze
Theses
In this work, a computational fluid dynamics software (STAR-CD) has been used to study the fluid flow characteristics near a small, truncated sphere located on the floor of a long, narrow channel. The sphere represents a nucleating bubble formed in a subcooled flow boiling process. The predictions of the CFD analyses are helpful toward developing an understanding of the mechanisms which drive the formation of bubbles, and their subsequent departure from a heated surface during this process. The working fluid is water at 20 celsius. The analyses yielded velocity vectors near the sphere, pressure contours and a stagnation point on …

A Study To Determine Optimum Carton Head Space And Carton Orientation In A Corrugated Case To Minimize Product Damage Through Distribution, Kim Mitchell
Theses
Pasta products are separated into four product categories: long goods, short goods, noodles and specialty items. Margins and subsequent corporate profits vary with each category. Long and short goods are commodity items. Therefore, they have low margins. Noodle item margins are slightly higher. However, pasta's highest margins are derived from the sale of speciality items. These items include Stuffing Shells, Lasagna and Manicotti. Because corporate profits are affected by the sales mix ratio of speciality items to other pasta categories, pasta companies strive to increase their market share of speciality items. Audits to determine stuffing shell quality in packages found …

Is One Parent Rating Scale Enough: A Comparison Of Three Adhd Parent Rating Scales, Nicole Lesiak
Theses
This study examined the accuracy of three parent rating scales in identifying Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children who had been diagnosed previously with this disorder. If the assumption is made that all previous diagnoses were accurate, then all diagnoses on all scales should be positive. The rating scales selected were The Attention Deficit Disorders Evaluation Scales Second Edition - Home Version (ADDES) (1995), Conners' Abbreviated Symptom Questionnaire, Parent Version (ASQ-P) (1990), and the Revised Home Situations Questionnaire (HSQ-R) (1990). Subjects consisted of parents of fifty elementary age children. Results indicated that none of the three scales correctly indicated …
Modular Imaging Spectrometer Instrument (Misi) Calibration Using Blackbody Radiators, Emmett Ientilucci
Modular Imaging Spectrometer Instrument (Misi) Calibration Using Blackbody Radiators, Emmett Ientilucci
Theses
In Remote Sensing, absolute calibration of airborne image acquisition systems is essential. The MISI (Modular Imaging Spectrometer Instrument), developed at RIT’s Digital Imaging and Remote Sensin Laboratory (DIRS), is one such devise that needs this calibration. Without this calibration, visible and radiometric data collected by the MISI can be difficult to interpret. RIT has previously developed a line scanner but its means of calibration did not take into account the detector gain and bias of the system scanners, in general, that operate in the thermal regions of the EM spectrum use blackbody radiators for their means of calibration. The detectors …

Process Design For Charge-Injection Based Imaging Array Fabrication, Michael Schippers
Process Design For Charge-Injection Based Imaging Array Fabrication, Michael Schippers
Theses
Charge-injection devices (CID's) have been around almost as long as charge-coupled devices (CCD's), yet have generally been overlooked for solid state imaging applications due to their slower operating speeds. However, CID arrays offer advantages over CCD based arrays for certain applications where spectral response and/or X-Y addressing are required. In order to fabricate CID based imaging arrays, a single level poly CMOS (p-well) process has been modified into a double level poly CMOS (p-well) process that will allow fabrication of both imaging structures and drive circuitry. These modifications are optimized for CID based structures, yet will also allow working CCD …
Computational Analysis Of Turbopump Diffuser In A Space Transfer Vehicle Engine With Boundary Layer Control By Suction, Yuan Xin
Theses
Future space missions by NASA that include Space Transfer Vehicles (STV) are ex pected to perform orbital transfers such as Lunar and Mars transfers and descents. STV requires deep-engine throttling thrust capability. To accomplish this, turbopumps employed in the Space Transfer Vehicles should efficiently provide a wide range of flow output. The current state-of-the-art cryogenic fuel and oxidizer turbopump designs with vaned diffusers do not perform efficiently at off-design (low) flow rate, mainly due to flow separation and stall in the vaned diffuser. This thesis evaluates the effectiveness of boundary layer control by wall suction for suppressing or eliminating the …
3-D Cfd Analysis Of Flow In A Mixed-Flow Pump Diffuser, Yi Zhao
3-D Cfd Analysis Of Flow In A Mixed-Flow Pump Diffuser, Yi Zhao
Theses
The primary goal of the project was to gain insight into the flow pattern in a mixed flow pump diffuser by using FLUENT CFD code and k-e turbulence model, and improve the design of a diffuser for higher pump efficiency. The diffuser chosen in this thesis is used in a mixed flow multi-stage pump which collects the nearly radial flow (water) at impeller discharge and converts it to a nearly axial flow at the inlet of the following pump stage. A three-dimensional computational model was developed for three different diffuser designs labeled as Diffuser A, Diffuser B and Diffuser C. …
Modeling And Image Quality Of Photopolymer-Based Holographic Optical Elements, Guoheng Zhao
Modeling And Image Quality Of Photopolymer-Based Holographic Optical Elements, Guoheng Zhao
Theses
Hologram formation in photopolymers is believed to be largely a result of monomer diffusion. By solving the diffusion equation in terms of grating harmonics, the numerical results can be expressed in a meaningful way and are straightforward to compare with experimental results. The diffusion model predicts some basic properties of gratings recorded in photopolymers, such as the variation of refractive index modulation with recording irradiance or grating frequency, as well as the linearity of the recording. For a sinusoidal exposure irradiance, nonsinusoidal grating profiles are normally recorded. The linearity of recording depends strongly on the recording parameters including exposure irradiance …
A Performance Evaluation Of Several Atm Switching Architectures, Jeffrey Krieger
A Performance Evaluation Of Several Atm Switching Architectures, Jeffrey Krieger
Theses
The goal of this thesis is to evaluate the performance of three Asynchronous Transfer Mode switching architectures. After examining many different ATM switching architectures in literature, the three architectures chosen for study were the Knockout switch, the Sunshine switch, and the Helical switch. A discrete-time, event driven system simulator, named ProModel, was used to model the switching behavior of these architectures. Each switching architecture was modeled and studied under at least two design configurations. The performance of the three architectures was then investigated under three different traffic types representative of traffic found in B-ISDN: random, constant bit rate, and bursty. …
A Study To Evaluate Current Color Matching Procedures, Brian Mcdonough
A Study To Evaluate Current Color Matching Procedures, Brian Mcdonough
Theses
The primary objective of this study was to determine if current color matching procedures produce the desired color on the final printed package. A problem with printed items is that multiple departments and companies are involved with the choosing, specifying and approving of colors. This study evaluated one part of this procedure - the printed color standard. The printed color standard is used by the printer and packaging buyer to assure color consistency. However, there is often little understanding of light sources, color perception, chromatic adaptation, metamerism and ink dry-back. Color reference systems, like Pantone, recommend updating their color standards …
The Influences Of Consumer Attitudes And Perceptions About Pesticides And Produce Quality On Technology Transfer, William Mclaren Pool
The Influences Of Consumer Attitudes And Perceptions About Pesticides And Produce Quality On Technology Transfer, William Mclaren Pool
Theses
Consumers have expressed concern about the human health and environmental consequences resulting from the use of agrichemicals by growers to produce food. This paper reports the results of a 1995 survey of consumer attitudes and perceptions about pesticides and fresh fruit and vegetable quality. While there is widespread concern about the human health hazards presented by pesticide residues in food at the time of consumption, this survey population reports greater consumer concern about environmental contamination from agrichemical use. Once familiar with the process of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the respondents of this survey indicate they would prefer to purchase fruits …

Retention And Separation Behaviour Of Chloropyrifos And Other Water Pollutants Using Polyurethane Foams, Rashed Saleh Al-Mehrazi
Retention And Separation Behaviour Of Chloropyrifos And Other Water Pollutants Using Polyurethane Foams, Rashed Saleh Al-Mehrazi
Theses
Heavy metals and pesticides represent a class of man-made environmental pollutants which also occur naturally in the environment. The presence of these pollutants in the industrial and agricultural wastewaters often represents a risk to the environment. Investigation of these species in the water is an important aspect of environmental pollution as human activities contributed to the progressive increase in the concentration of these compounds in the environmental as well as aquatic systems. Therefore, identification and removal (or reduction) of these species to an acceptable concentration are of prime importance.
The analytical utility of unloaded open-cell polyurethane foams and foams immobilizing …

Cross-Correlation: A Contrast Method For Studying Fetal Cardiovascular Time Series, Stacy Kalisz
Theses
Congenital cardiac malformations are a serious health concern affecting the development of the fetal cardiovascular system. Identification of a fetus with abnormalities early in pregnancy, 10-20 weeks gestation, could assist in clinical diagnosis and be a great asset in health care. This thesis is a continuation of, and works in concert with, other research efforts conducted at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) aimed at characterizing fetal cardiovascular health through applied signal processing. This thesis utilizes cross-correlation as a technique for analyzing the cyclic variations and assessing commonalities of individual parts of fetal umbilical artery time series data. These time series …
