Differences In Self-Perceived Family Health Between Eating Disordered And Non-Eating Disordered Individuals, Karen M. Wright
Differences In Self-Perceived Family Health Between Eating Disordered And Non-Eating Disordered Individuals, Karen M. Wright
Theses
In this study, the constructs of autonomy and intimacy which were key concepts in the separation-individuation process were studied in relation to eating disorder symptomology. Eating disordered individuals receiving counseling were compared to a non-clinical sample of graduate and undergraduate students. The hypothesis tested was that eating disordered women will perceive their family as significantly less healthy as compared to non-eating disordered women. This was determined by the overall score of perceived family health as measured by the Family of Origin Scale. At-test for independent samples indicated a significant difference. The researcher also hypothesized that non-eating disordered women would report …

One Of Tennessee's Women, Jeanne Chinn
One Of Tennessee's Women, Jeanne Chinn
Theses
The Library of Congress lists over eighty books that deal exclusively with Tennessee Williams. A vast number of these books cover anecdotal information about Tennessee's personal life, experiences, and relationships through his emotionally turbulent life. A great deal of biographical material presents conflicting accounts and many authors claim to have " the real story'' on Tennessee's life and loves.
If the reader is interested in titillating tidbits on Tennessee, this is not the paper to read. However, Mr. Tennessee Williams wrote from bis heart and his life experiences. Because of this, attention needs to be paid to how he drew …
American Comedy Film As Mass Communication: The Audience Experience, Amy Ealy

Through the use of local newspapers, correspondence and documentation, such as Vestry Minute Books, designs and cartoons stored in the Chapter House of St. Finbarre’s, I have tried to put the building of St. Finbarre’s …
Modeling And Simulating Chemical Weapon Dispersal Patterns In Dirsig, Peter Arnold
Modeling And Simulating Chemical Weapon Dispersal Patterns In Dirsig, Peter Arnold
Theses
Fieldable thermal infrared hyperspectral imaging spectrometers have made it possible to design and construct new instruments for better detection of battlefield hazards such as chemical weapon clouds. The availability of spectroscopic measurements of these clouds can be used not only for the detection and identification of specific chemical agents but also to potentially quantify the lethality of the cloud. The simulation of chemical weapon dispersal patterns in a synthetic imaging environment offers significant benefits to sensor designers. Such an environment allows designers to easily develop trade spaces to test detection and quantification algorithms without the need for expensive and dangerous …

Perceived Empathy In Self-Help Books, Jerome M. Spector
Perceived Empathy In Self-Help Books, Jerome M. Spector
Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine whether written self-help materials conveyed empathy and whether reader's perceptions of empathy could be measured. Subjects (N = 65) were asked to rate 6 passages from 3 books on 2 questions derived from Rogers' (1961) restatement rule, and make a hypothetical choice among the authors as therapists. Using paired sample t tests, it was found that the mean differences in the ratings in 9 out of 12 cases were significant. One choice of therapist outcome out of the 2 was significant, x2 (2, N = 55) = 37.673, p < 0.001. It was concluded that the results supported theories that empathy, as a pluralistic concept, was inherent in written materials, and could be measured.
Consequences Of Using Fear As A Motivator And Its Effects On The Employer / Employee Relationship, Nicole M. Griggs
Consequences Of Using Fear As A Motivator And Its Effects On The Employer / Employee Relationship, Nicole M. Griggs
Theses
The following work is an in-depth analysis of the consequences of using fear as a motivator, specifically, in the workplace, and the effects fear has on employees. The empirical research identifies the successful, and often, unsuccessful components of the employer/employee relationship. For many, using fear would seem to be a powerful way of getting employees to produce more, work harder, increasing motivation. This is not always the answer. The study provides reasons why fear can be a negative motivator and detrimental to an organization.
Loss Detection In The Dairy Industry., Michael Quealy
Loss Detection In The Dairy Industry., Michael Quealy
Theses
In any waste management program, the primary objective must be minimizing product loss without having an affect on product quality. Good waste management is recognized as good manufacturing practice and optimizes the processes to gain the highest possible yield from the available raw materials. A good waste management program must involve the daily monitoring of effluent from the plant for volume and strength. This data needs to be analyzed sufficiently to obtain clear pictures of what problems are present and where they are originating. If this is achieved then the task of reducing the product loss is made much easier. …
Simulation Of The Formation And Propagation Of The Thermal Bar On Lake Ontario, Dilkushi Anuja De Alwis
Simulation Of The Formation And Propagation Of The Thermal Bar On Lake Ontario, Dilkushi Anuja De Alwis
Theses
Computer-based, mathematical models that simulate spatially distributed and time dependent environmental processes are increasingly recognized to provide diagnostic and productive outputs for the assessments of environmental factors. Mathematical models have been utilized since 60's to study the water quality, the circulation structure and the seasonal changes of large water bodies such as the Great Lakes. Analysis of changes in water quality related to seasonal cycles such as the formation and the propagation of the thermal bar requires spatial and temporal models, with high resolution. The overall objective of this study was to integrate geo-referenced site-specific spatial data to a 3D …
Simulation Of Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometers Using Dirsig, Francois Alain
Simulation Of Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometers Using Dirsig, Francois Alain
Theses
Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometers are becoming popular sensors for hyperspectral re mote sensing. To evaluate sensor design artifacts and properties, it is useful to simulate their designs using a radiometrically correct ray-tracing tool. The Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing Image Generation model allows for such design and simulation of sensor properties. Two different design types are evaluated and simulated. The first one is a Michelson-type interferometer. The sensor collects the image by operating in "stare mode" The interferogram is collected over time by scanning one of the mirrors to generate the required optical path difference between the signals. The second …
