Stuttering Awareness, Joshua Bodman
Stuttering Awareness, Joshua Bodman
Theses
This thesis project will provide information about stuttering and attempt to eliminate some of the stigmas attached to the disorder. By increasing awareness, more light will be cast on stuttering, eliminating some of the burden of disfluency. The disorder will no longer be a mystery if people understand that stuttering is composed of concrete thoughts, feelings and actions. A publicized campaign will dispel some of the negative views of this disorder and reduce the pressures that are created in different speaking situations. These stuttering awareness goals will be disseminated through a collection of design applications. The awareness campaign as presented …
A Subpixel Target Detection Algorithm For Hyperspectral Imagery, Kyungsuk Lee
A Subpixel Target Detection Algorithm For Hyperspectral Imagery, Kyungsuk Lee
Theses
The goal of this research is to develop a new algorithm for the detection of subpixel scale target materials on the hyperspectral imagery. The signal decision theory is typically to decide the existence of a target signal embedded in the random noise. This implies that the detection problem can be mathematically formalized by signal decision theory based on the statistical hypothesis test. In particular, since any target signature provided by airborne/spaceborne sensors is embedded in a structured noise such as background or clutter signatures as well as broad band unstructured noise, the problem becomes more complicated, and particularly much more …
Power Supply Noise Coupling In A Standard Voltage Reference Circuit, Murat Ozbas
Power Supply Noise Coupling In A Standard Voltage Reference Circuit, Murat Ozbas
Theses
Power supply noise coupling represents a challenge in the design of current and future analog and mixed-signal circuits and systems. In this thesis, power supply noise coupling is analyzed at the circuit level. As a representative study, power supply noise coupling in a voltage reference is studied. The precision of a voltage reference circuit is critical to the performance of other analog and RF circuits. Therefore, there is much value in developing a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which power supply noise coupling occurs in this fundamental analog and RF system building block. A model representing the amount of …

Media Processor Implementations Of Image Rendering Algorithms, Josephine Smith
Media Processor Implementations Of Image Rendering Algorithms, Josephine Smith
Theses
Demands for fast execution of image processing are a driving force for today's computing market. Many image processing applications require intense numeric calculations to be done on large sets of data with minimal overhead time. To meet this challenge, several approaches have been used. Custom-designed hardware devices are very fast implementations used in many systems today. However, these devices are very expensive and inflexible. General purpose computers with enhanced multimedia instructions offer much greater flexibility but process data at a much slower rate than the custom-hardware devices. Digital signal processors (DSP's) and media processors, such as the MAP-CA created by …
The Inclusion Of Students With An Emotional And Behavioral Disturbance (Ebd) In Regular Education Classrooms: A Survey Of School Psychologists In The United States, Kathryn Crane, Larry Scott
The Inclusion Of Students With An Emotional And Behavioral Disturbance (Ebd) In Regular Education Classrooms: A Survey Of School Psychologists In The United States, Kathryn Crane, Larry Scott
Theses
Current literature suggests that among students with disabilities, students with emotional and behavioral (EBD) disturbances are the most challenging to include. This study surveyed the perceptions of school psychologists and other professionals nationwide regarding this issue. Respondents indicated that students with EBD are still spending a large amount of their day outside of the regular education classroom. Rural districts reported a significantly higher amount of students with EBD being included in regular education, compared to urban districts. Individual student needs and "district vision, beliefs, and philosophy" ranked as the most important factors influencing attempts to educate students with EBD in …

Putting Francis Howell On The Map, Christopner Matthews Greiner
Putting Francis Howell On The Map, Christopner Matthews Greiner
Theses
One of the main responsibilities of a school system is to train citizens to be productive members of society. To that end, educators are charged with the responsibility of helping students learn knowledge and skills that will be beneficial to their existence beyond high school. In recent years, growing criticism has emerged from business leaders and parents that schools are not doing a good enough job preparing students for life after high school. As a result, educators have worked to implement accountability systems that would raise the stakes for its students. As a result, the development and implementation of exit …

Groups were composed of members within the same academic discipline or from different academic disciplines. Teacher empowerment was measured by the School Participant Empowerment Scale (SPES), which considers …
Investigations On Compatibilized And Uncompatibilized Blends Of Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride) And Poly(Ethylene Oxide), Pranita Kulkarni
Investigations On Compatibilized And Uncompatibilized Blends Of Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride) And Poly(Ethylene Oxide), Pranita Kulkarni
Theses
This thesis describes the investigation of compatibilized and uncompatibilized blends of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). Poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) was used a compatibilizer for the system. Modeling of crystallization exotherms, high -temperature phase behavior and partitioning of the components in the above blend systems are considered in detail. Only blends having PVDF as the continuous phase are studied. The crystallization behavior as observed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of PVDF seemed unchanged upon blending with PEO for both compatibilized and uncompatibilized systems. However, PEO showed a significant depression in its crystallization temperature when blended with PVDF. As the …

Construction Of M - Band Bandlimited Wavelets For Orthogonal Decomposition, Bryce Tennant
Construction Of M - Band Bandlimited Wavelets For Orthogonal Decomposition, Bryce Tennant
Theses
While bandlimited wavelets and associated IIR filters have shown serious potential in areas of pattern recognition and communications, the dyadic Meyer wavelet is the only known approach to construct bandlimited orthogonal decomposition. The sine scaling function and wavelet are a special case of the Meyer. Previous works have proposed a M - Band extension of the Meyer wavelet without solving the problem. One key contribution of this thesis is the derivation of the correct bandlimits for the scaling function and wavelets to guarantee an orthogonal basis. In addition, the actual construction of the wavelets based upon these bandlimits is developed. …
Equivalent Circuit Models For Package Level Discontinuities And Chip-Package Intersonnects, Maulin Bhagat
Equivalent Circuit Models For Package Level Discontinuities And Chip-Package Intersonnects, Maulin Bhagat
Theses
Equivalent circuit models with closed form expressions, in conjunction with a segmentation technique, have been derived to study three different aspects related to chip-package co-design issues. This technique has been successfully applied to package level discontinuities, chip-package interconnects, and the modeling of transients that affect the performance of an integrated microstrip antenna placed at the RF front end. In each case, circuit models have been developed to include coupling by the use of coupling capacitance and mutual inductance. All circuit elements are defined by closed form expressions. To analyze package level discontinuities various microstrip transmission lines placed in close proximity …

In an increasingly virtual world, new identities that exist only in cyberspace are being created. Historically rooted, role-playing has been popular long before Shakespeare, and starting in the early 1990s, has moved into the computer. Now more than ever, it serves as a form of entertainment, escape and self-exploration to hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. In interactive, text-based computer games that are designed to represent fantasy worlds, players become authors not only of text but of themselves, constructing new selves through social interaction. On a MUD (Multi User Domain) game, places and selves are completely constructed through text. Thus, …

Measuring Images: Differences, Quality And Appearance, Garrett M. Johnson
Measuring Images: Differences, Quality And Appearance, Garrett M. Johnson
Theses
In order to predict the overall perception of image quality it is necessary to first understand and quantify the appearance of images. Just as color appearance modeling evolved from traditional colorimetry and color difference calculations, image appearance modeling evolves from color image difference calculations. A modular framework for the creation of a color image difference metric has been developed and tested using several psychophysical datasets. This framework is based upon traditional CIE color difference equations, and the S-CIELAB spatial extension to the CIELAB color space. The color image difference predictions have been shown to correlate well with experimental data. The …
