Latent Image Stability In High Resolution Plates, Robert Mottice May 1966

Latent Image Stability In High Resolution Plates, Robert Mottice

Theses

A study of the stability of the latent image in High Resolution Plates is presented. Two factors have been investigated- relative humidity before and after exposure and the length of time under such conditions. It was found that in conditions of 60% relative humidity or less, fading does not pose any real threat to the commercial user and that under 100% R.H. conditions fading takes place quite rapidly.

Factors Affecting The Biodegradation Of Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonates In River Die-Away Studies, Neil M. Mchugh Jun 1965

Factors Affecting The Biodegradation Of Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonates In River Die-Away Studies, Neil M. Mchugh

Theses

The determining factors in the biodegradation of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates have been investigated using the river die-away technique. Emphasis was placed on finding the correlation between biodegradability and each of the following: surfactant structure, inoculation of basic water medium with activated sludge, and acclimation of bacteria to a given surfactant. It has been shown that the lower the molecular weight of linear alkylate, down to C8, the faster the rate of biodegradation. It was further shown that there is no direct relationship between phenyl position distribution and biodegradability, nor is there any direct correlation between the amount of surfactant remaining …

Planning And Scheduling Software Programs With Pert, Henry E. Mielo May 1965

Planning And Scheduling Software Programs With Pert, Henry E. Mielo

Theses

The use of the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) in planning and scheduling software programs was discussed in this thesis. A real world program, referred to as the Wrap-Around Simulation or WAS Project, was selected to illustrate that complex efforts in the software domain can respond favorably to modern planning and scheduling techniques

The WAS Project included the provision of a digital simulation of the shipboard environment in which a Digital Fire Control Computer (DFCC) would operate as part of a Digital Fire Control System. The digital simulation afforded a well controlled and conclusive checkout of the operational program …

Application Of Radioactive Tracers In The Study Of Diffusional Phenomena, Rodolfo Cilento Jun 1964

Application Of Radioactive Tracers In The Study Of Diffusional Phenomena, Rodolfo Cilento

Theses

The study of mass transfer of a solute through a solvent can be greatly facilitated by the use of radioactive tracers.

This experiment was developed to demonstrate that by using radioactive tracers very small quantities of matter that would be very difficult to test chemically, can not only be tested but easily followed without disturbing the apparatus in which the diffusion is taking place.

Oleic Acid tagged with radioactive iodine (I131) was diffused through hexane at constant temperature in a glass column, one inch in diameter and thirty-six inches long.

The diffusion of Oleic Acid was followed by …

Polypropylene Fibers, Anthony Vincent Galanti May 1964

Polypropylene Fibers, Anthony Vincent Galanti

Theses

One of the latest members of the rapidly growing therrnoplastic polymer family which appears capable of successfully competing with the currently saturated textile and chemical markets is polypropylene fiber. The objectives of this Thesis were to: (1) examine the effects of polymer characteristics and fiber processing conditions on the properties of polypropylene fibers, and (2) correlate all existing information on the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of polypropylene fibers and comparatively evaluate this material with other fibers, natural and synthetic.

Polypropylene is the first member of a new group of polymers prepared by a mechanism defined as "stereospecific" polymerization. From …

The Corrosiveness Of Phenols, Edgar George Kaup Jun 1963

The Corrosiveness Of Phenols, Edgar George Kaup

Theses

The effects of oxidizing agents, heat, light, and metallic catalysts on coloration in phenols is discussed, using data collected from the literature. The oxidation reaction is concluded to be the con-trolling factor in coloration. Corrosion data from laboratory experiments, field tests, and operating plants is presented for metals and non-metals in concentrated phenolic systems.
