Developing, Designing And Teaching The Course: Education Of The Exceptional Child, Carolyn Collins Walsh
Developing, Designing And Teaching The Course: Education Of The Exceptional Child, Carolyn Collins Walsh
Theses
This project, authored by Carolyn Collins Walsh as part of her Master of Arts degree at Lindenwood College, documents the development, design, and instructional approach of a college-level course titled Education of the Exceptional Child. Grounded in the author's 13 years of experience teaching exceptional children, the course was created in response to observed gaps in the preparedness of new teachers facing diverse classroom challenges. Walsh emphasizes the necessity of blending theoretical knowledge with practical strategies to effectively teach children with emotional, behavioral, and learning difficulties.
The foundation of the course design was a national survey conducted among 41 …
Recognition Thresholds For The Spectrally Opponent Neural Network In The Human Visual System, Douglas Smith
Recognition Thresholds For The Spectrally Opponent Neural Network In The Human Visual System, Douglas Smith
Theses
Recognition thresholds for an alphanumeric resolution test object of differing target/background chromaticities and equal luminosities were determined. Combinations of the four psychologically unique hues were studied, and those pairs corresponding to the green-red and yellow-blue opponent neural systems were found to give the highest visibilities. Equivalent achromatic contrasts for each of the presented color pairs were determined, and comparison of the results with achromatic data of other researchers shows clearly that the spectrally opponent neural network in the human visual system is much less efficient in processing spatial information than is the spatially opponent (achromatic) neural network.

Sexuality Counseling For Male-Oriented Men, Daniel W. Fulmer
Sexuality Counseling For Male-Oriented Men, Daniel W. Fulmer
Theses
This paper discusses conceptual and experiential aspects of helping male homosexuals who have problems in achieving pleasurable and satisfying sexual experiences . New helping modalities, particularly those of Masters and Johnson , are explored in the context of a case study of a single 28 year old male who was able during the course of the counseling relationship to attain greater sexual pleasure and emotional satisfaction both by himself and with a partner by breaking out of a pattern of unfulfilling masturbation . The conclusion reached is that non-analytical approaches used successfully by "new sex therapists " with committed heterosexual …

Non-Standard Workweek Scheduling Technique Selection, John Alexander Oak
Theses
This thesis presents a description of non-standard work scheduling techniques and a comparison method which enables decision-makers to differentiate between available work-scheduling alternatives with the purpose in mind of selecting the most appropriate and suitable arrangement. The method developed calls for the decision-maker to follow a five-step sequential process to obtain final results. The ingredients necessary to achieve such final results are obtained in a manner similar to that demanded by decision-making-under-uncertainty conditions commonly followed in actual industrial settings.
Since the primary objective of business management is the achievement of a profit through the manipulation of available resources, initial sections …

A Classroom Experience With Self-Image Enhancement As A Factor In Academic Achievement, Katherine Kellems Moore
A Classroom Experience With Self-Image Enhancement As A Factor In Academic Achievement, Katherine Kellems Moore
Theses
A Classroom Experience with Self-Image Enhancement as a Factor in Academic Achievement, by Katherine Kellems Moore, investigates the connection between self-image enhancement and academic achievement in junior high students. The study was conducted with 131 randomly selected English I students in a suburban St. Louis school. Moore hypothesized that students who experienced an improvement in self-image would show corresponding gains in academic performance. Over the course of the 20-week study, students participated in personal growth activities designed to enhance self-awareness and clarify values.
The research utilized both formal academic pre/post-tests and self-reporting tools, including the Perception of Values Inventory, …
Experimenting With Varied Learning Environments In A Traditional Setting, Linda Stanford
Experimenting With Varied Learning Environments In A Traditional Setting, Linda Stanford
Theses
This study, titled "Experimenting with Varied Learning Environments in a Traditional Setting," explores the integration of alternative and open classroom strategies within a conventional fourth-grade classroom in suburban St. Charles, Missouri. Conducted by Linda Stanford in partial fulfillment of her Master of Arts degree at Lindenwood College in 1976, the research investigates how varied learning environments—such as learning centers, student choice activities, and peer teaching—affect student attitudes toward learning, the teacher, and their own learning styles.
The study implemented five experimental activities: Reading Choices, a Language Block with multiple learning stations, Math Games taught to younger students, thematic learning centers …

Identification Thresholds Of The Human Visual System For An Alphanumeric Resolution Test Object, Mark Bobb
Identification Thresholds Of The Human Visual System For An Alphanumeric Resolution Test Object, Mark Bobb
Theses
Many investigations of the detection threshold of the human visual system have been conducted, and a few recognition threshold studies can be found, however no identification threshold data are available. This paper documents research on the observer's identification threshold for an alphanumeric resolution test object presented at various average luminance levels, contrasts, and contrast polarities. These factors affected the identification threshold in a similar way to the effects they exert on the observer's detection and recognition thresholds; the test object contrast being the most significant factor. Direct numerical comparisons between the various thresholds were not possible due to the large …
The Relationship Between The Relative Legibility Of Textual Material And Resolving Power In A Microphotographic System, John Compton
The Relationship Between The Relative Legibility Of Textual Material And Resolving Power In A Microphotographic System, John Compton
Theses
The application of microphotographic methods for the processing and storage of information has grown steadily during the last two decades. The microphotographic system, through which the information must pass at a minimum is as follows: Step 1: Photographing of the original document at a large reduction onto a silver halide microfilm. Step 2: Duplicating through contact printing onto a non-silver photographic material. Step 3: Second generation duplication onto a nonsilver photographic material (This image may be used on a microfilm reader). Step 4: Enlargement of the second generation duplicate to give a hard copy print. One of the main objectives …

Effects Of Varying Unsharp Masking And Contrasts In Duplicate Mammographs With Respect To Cancer Detection, Leonard Parker
Effects Of Varying Unsharp Masking And Contrasts In Duplicate Mammographs With Respect To Cancer Detection, Leonard Parker
Theses
This report examines two methods of enhancing a photographic image and applies them to duplicating mammographs. Subtractive unsharp masking, one such method, is a photo-optical edge enhancement technique. The degree of unsharpness is controlled by interspacing between the mammograph and a receiving film while exposing. The other method is optimizing the combination of masking film contrast and duplicating film contrast. Three levels of unsharpness, two levels of mask contrast and two levels of duplicating film contrast were tested. The common objective of this project and mammography in general involves the recognition and diagnosis of breast cancer. Specifically, the experimental objective …
A Computer Based Analysis Of The Effects Of Rhythm Modification On The Intelligibility Of The Speech Of Hearing And Deaf Subjects, Harry Lang
Theses
The speech of profoundly deaf persons often exhibits acquired unnatural rhythms, or a random pattern of rhythms. Inappropriate pause-time and speech-time durations are common in their speech. Specific rhythm deficiencies include abnormal rate of syllable utterance, improper grouping, poor timing and phrasing of syllables and unnatural stress for accent and emphasis. Assuming that temporal features are fundamental to the naturalness of spoken language, these abnormal timing patterns are often detractive. They may even be important factors in the decreased intelligibility of the speech. This thesis explores the significance of temporal cues in the rhythmic patterns of speech. An analysis-synthesis approach …

Industrialized-Subsidized Housing In The Hackensack Meadowlands, Andrew Carl Gildersleeve
Industrialized-Subsidized Housing In The Hackensack Meadowlands, Andrew Carl Gildersleeve
Theses
New Jersey as well as the rest of the nation is beginning to feel the pinch of what has been termed the housing crisis. The products of the World War II baby-boom are now reaching the age where they require homes of their own, making the demand for good quality low-cost housing very high. At the same time, the demand for good public housing continues to grow and we are learning that our previous efforts in this field have been far from satisfactory.
In the course of this study I have looked into the possibilities of solving a portion of …
