Influence Of First Developer Solvent Levels On The Information Storage Capacity Of Negative And Reversal Images, Wendy R. Harrison Jun 1980

Influence Of First Developer Solvent Levels On The Information Storage Capacity Of Negative And Reversal Images, Wendy R. Harrison

Theses

Silver halide solvents are commonly used in the first developer of a reversal process to obtain brighter highlights and a higher effective speed. An investigation was carried out to determine the effect of a low and high level of solvent on the sensitometric char acteristics as well as the covering power, granularity, modulation transfer function (MTF) and the information storage capacity of Plus-X reversal film 7276. The investigation was designed such that the only variable in the systems studied was the first developer. D-67, i.e., D-19 containing two grams liter^-1 of potassium thiocyanate, was chosen as the high solvent first …

Life-Enhancement With Art Therapy For The Institutionalized Aged, Lorraine H. Briggs May 1980

Life-Enhancement With Art Therapy For The Institutionalized Aged, Lorraine H. Briggs

Theses

The aging of the populace is causing Americans to consider the ways in which education, medicine, housing, and leisure will be affected by this rapid growth . In this paper I will review some of the literature on aging that delineates the individual differences in physical and mental characteristics of the old . Some of the more prominent theories of the aging process will be presented briefly, with an examination of physical and psychological changes that affect the older person's ability to cope with an environment characterized by multiple loss, both physical and emotional. Myths about how age influences the …

Touching In The Psychotherapeutic Encounter, Kim Glaser Selbert May 1980

Touching In The Psychotherapeutic Encounter, Kim Glaser Selbert

Theses

This thesis explores the role of physical touch as an adjunct to psychotherapy, analyzing both its therapeutic benefits and potential risks. Touch, defined in this study as physical contact including handshakes, touches on the arm or shoulder, hugs, kisses, and massage, is considered a fundamental human need and communication tool that extends across cultures and species. Drawing from psychological literature, developmental research, and the history of therapeutic practice, the study traces how touch has evolved in psychotherapy—from pre-Freudian physical treatments to Freud's rejection of touch in favor of neutrality, and to contemporary views that embrace limited, intentional touch as therapeutic. …

The Voyage Of Consciousness In People, Deborah M. Rogers May 1980

The Voyage Of Consciousness In People, Deborah M. Rogers

Theses

The Voyage of Consciousness in People explores the complex, layered development of human consciousness through a psychological and spiritual framework rooted in transpersonal and yogic traditions. Deborah M. Rogers presents consciousness as a dynamic process, best understood as a "voyage" through a spectrum of internal experiences and developmental stages. Drawing heavily on Eastern philosophy—particularly the chakra system of Tantric Yoga—she maps human awareness across seven levels: Physical, Affect, Effect, Mental, Ego, Transpersonal, and Pure Consciousness. Each level correlates with one of the seven major chakras and includes a progression through seven depths or "bands" of consciousness, adapted from Ken Wilber’s …

A Tone Reproduction Study Of A Digital Image Processing System, Gerald Kashtan May 1980

A Tone Reproduction Study Of A Digital Image Processing System, Gerald Kashtan

Theses

Photographic tone reproduction analysis was applied to a digital image processing system (DIPS) . The problem was to calculate computer mapping functions for the DIPS that would cause input scenes to be reproduced having Clark's tone reproduction characteristics. Using the graphical method of a Jones Diagram, unique computer mapping functions were constructed for four images processed by the DIPS. After processing the imagery in the computer, the pixels were reconstructed into photographic transparencies for projection in a specially designed projection area. The results of this work concluded that tone reproduction analysis is useful in studying the macro effect of luminance …

Phototherapy--A Phenomenologically Based Approach To Psychological Assessment, Sheila Culkin Apr 1980

Phototherapy--A Phenomenologically Based Approach To Psychological Assessment, Sheila Culkin

Theses

In this project the use of phototherapy in the psychological assessment process was proposed and explored. The conceptual roots for the phototherapy assessment used here can be found in phenomenological psychological literature, in the history and exploration of photography as an expressive art medium, and in the work of social scientists researching the use of photography in human study. The study investigates whether the photography, its content as well as its formal elements, i.e. camera angle, framing, perspective, lights and darks, distance of the subject from photographer, can reflect the experience and perception of the photographer. It has as its …

Psychophysics Of The Measurement Of The Distance Between Two Negative Ticks, Two Positive Ticks, And Two Edges, Alan Coble

Theses

The research that has been done deals with the increase in the precision of measurement under low magnification. There were four factors used in the field of view of a microscope to attempt an increase in precision. The factors were 10X and 20X magnifications, light intensities, and Kodak Wratten filters Nos. 58 and 45A. The precision of measurement was increased in the positive ticks and edges with factors other than high magnification.

Personal Responsibility In The Medical Treatment Of Cancer: The Role Of Counseling And Patient Understanding Of The Dynamics Of Disease, Evelyn Waterman

Theses

This thesis explores the role of personal responsibility, counseling, and holistic understanding in the medical treatment of cancer. Moving beyond the traditional medical model that focuses solely on physical symptoms and treatment modalities, the study emphasizes the psychosomatic dimensions of cancer—highlighting the interconnections between mind, body, spirit, and emotions in disease development and healing.

Therapeutic Use Of The Mandala, Laura Rienè

Theses

The thesis "Therapeutic Use of the Mandala" explores the application of mandalas in art therapy, hypnosis, and counseling psychology. When the artist utilizes a more intensive burning-in of the colors, it is possible for encaustic to project a totally unique and independent …
