A Study Of The Relationship Between The Black And White Solid Ink Density And Image Quality In Lithography, Chia-Wei Wu

Theses

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between the solid ink density and image quality by application of an image quality scaling method. The results quantify the relationship between image quality and printed solid ink densities. Six different solid ink density prints were produced, including solid ink density 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 and 1. 8. A paired comparison evaluation procedure was used to determine which of solid ink density prints was the best in this experiment. The optimum tone reproduction corresponding to the solid ink density which produced the best possible image quality is shown by …

A Presentation Of The Self-Organizing Paradigm; Speculation On Its Impact On Health, Gail Dahl Schomaker Jan 1986

A Presentation Of The Self-Organizing Paradigm; Speculation On Its Impact On Health, Gail Dahl Schomaker

Theses

This thesis explores the emergence of a new paradigm in understanding health, grounded in the scientific principles of self-organization and systems theory. Gail Dahl Schomaker presents a comprehensive examination of the shift from the traditional Newtonian mechanical worldview to the dynamic, process-oriented perspective rooted in the theory of dissipative structures as formulated by Ilya Prigogine. Central to this new worldview is the conceptualization of living organisms, including humans, as open systems that maintain and increase order through continual interaction with their environment.

The paper is structured to introduce key theoretical models from systems theory, cybernetics, and holistic health, progressively building …

A Curriculum For The Teaching Of Writing At The Fifth Grade Level Using Cerebral Symmetry, Karen Sue Roth Jan 1986

A Curriculum For The Teaching Of Writing At The Fifth Grade Level Using Cerebral Symmetry, Karen Sue Roth

Theses

Children's writing doesn't just happen. The transferring of private thoughts onto paper is a fragile and complicated press. To make the best use of instructional time and assure the quality of children's writing experiences, this author upon reviewing the current research felt a writing program based on integrating the right and left modes of thinking in a non-threatening environment was necessary. This is a curriculum designed to involve both modes of perceiving. It allows for the right hemisphere modes by encouraging clustering, body movement, color, image making, and metaphoric thinking. It enhances the left hemisphere modes by providing exercises for …

An Analysis Of Electronic Color Scanning Techniques For Application To The Dye Transfer Process, William Allan Six Jan 1986

An Analysis Of Electronic Color Scanning Techniques For Application To The Dye Transfer Process, William Allan Six

Theses

The dye transfer process is the photographic printing process used to produce the highest quality photographic prints to be submitted to printers for reproduction. Dye transfer prints are valued by advertising agencies for their highly saturated colors and ease of retouching. Photographers, museums, art galleries and collectors also value dye prints for the archival qualities. Dye transfer uses cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes to reproduce a color image. Photographic masking is used extensively for color correction, tone compression, and detail enhancement. The masks are projected with the original transparency to make continuous-tone separation negatives. Shallow-reliefgelatin positive-image matrices are made by …

Determination Of Trace Quantities Of Selenium And Arsenic In Canned Tuna Fish Using Electroanalytical Techniques, Ann Marie Higham Dec 1985

Determination Of Trace Quantities Of Selenium And Arsenic In Canned Tuna Fish Using Electroanalytical Techniques, Ann Marie Higham

Theses

Toxic metals are present in the environment and are known to be present in food. Selenium, which is considered an essential micronutrient, is recognized as a toxic metal at slightly higher concentrations. Arsenic is also recognized as a toxic metal. Selenium and Arsenic tend to accumulate in food, specifically fish and seafood.

Fifteen brands and types of tuna fish were analyzed for selenium using differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry. The cans with the high and low concentrations of selenium were analyzed for arsenic using differential pulse polarography. Three samples with three percent recoveries and a blank were analyzed for each …

An Investigation Of The Application Of Utility Theory To Determine The Value Of Time: The Demand For Interactive Information Systems In Student Markets, Gordon S. Kalley Sep 1985

An Investigation Of The Application Of Utility Theory To Determine The Value Of Time: The Demand For Interactive Information Systems In Student Markets, Gordon S. Kalley

Theses

The economic rational of many contemporary businesses is the provision of services or labor saving equipment which their customers' pay for in order• to save themselves time. A major decision such an enterprise must make prior to entry into the market i=_ whether enough of a market exists to make its entry worthwhile. Such firms would be able to make better resource allocation decisions if they could have a quantitative measure of the relationship of their consumer's valuation of time vis a vi money. This study proposes such a measure.

Interactive information systems, whose viability depends to a large degree …

The process of documenting these aspects …

Effects Of Standardized Supplementary Activities And Reading Level On Spelling Achievement In First Grade, Lois A. Evans Jul 1985

Effects Of Standardized Supplementary Activities And Reading Level On Spelling Achievement In First Grade, Lois A. Evans

Theses

Spelling programs in the primary grades often seem to lack internal continuity . Although students may receive appropriate activity lessons early in the school year, by the end of the year they are expected to master weekly lists of high frequency Dolch words in isolation . That is, the students are not given any predeveloped lessons that would allow them to use their spelling words in a meaningful context. It was the present researcher's contention that primary students would show higher levels of spelling achievement when the words were mastered through a standardized program of creative and functional writing exercises …
