Alcohol and drug abuse has been causing tremendous problems in American workforces everyday. The misuse of alcohol and drug finally lead the government to react to the problems. In March 1989, Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 went into effect, establishing the goal of a drug-free workplace. The purpose of this study is to find out how 14 major U.S. owned hotels are responding to Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. In order to find out, a 10 item questionnaire was developed and used to interview human resources executives. From the sample of 14 hotels, 11 hotels (78.5%) responded. The survey results …

The purpose of this study was to ascertain indications of hotel operators' understanding and application of empowerment. While there was a large amount of literature available on empowerment, there were few writings specific to the hotel industry. Little, if any, research exists on empowerment usage in the hospitality industry. Also, the term empowerment is poorly defined. The study additionally sought information on which job positions were affected and the completeness of implementation of empowerment programs. If outplacement is considered a necessity in this age of continuous mergers, acquisitions, and downsizing, then why do most companies find it difficult to utilize these services for all employees?
This thesis will assess previous research on outplacement and evaluate the reasons for limited use. A four page questionnaire containing nineteen questions was mailed to forty-two pharmaceutical and related industries. The survey questions focused on why and how these industries utilize outplacement services. A comparison study was done of the research versus what the pharmaceutical industries are actually practicing.

This study investigated a new organizational structure within the data processing field. In an attempt to curb job turnover and improve job satisfaction within a typical application software development environment, the concept of the Application Software Development Pool (ASDP) was developed. To identify differences and employee reactions to implementing ASDP's organizational structure versus a more conventional data processing organizational structure, 15 employees participated in a conventional DP group and 15 were assigned to the ASDP group. Manager perceptions were determined by using a ratio scale of value ranging between 0 and 100. Findings are based on questionnaire responses of 121 top, middle, and lower managers in 120 firms in the United States.
