The Effect Of Certain Chemical Treatments On Photolytic Image Formation, H. W. Casey, D. J. Krupcale
Theses
A study of certain chemical baths and combinations of chemical baths was made to determine their effect on the print-out image of a specially-prepared conventional developing-out enlarging paper. These Print-out images were formed and made visible entirely from the photolytic effect of the image exposure. Arc lamp, tungsten lamp and electronic flash lamp exposures were made; arc lamp exposures were the most satisfactory. The chemical associated with the most image improvement was stannous chloride.
A Study Of The Effects Of The Concentration Of 2-Mercapto-4-Phenylthiazole On The Clearing Rate Of A Chlorobromide Emulsion And Evidence Of The Presence Of Activity Sites, Peter Lloyd
Theses
It has been hypothesized than materials which tightly adsorb on sliver halide lattices will attach themselves preferentially at certain points, usually referred to as activity sites, which have areas of only a few percent of I the total crystal surface. An experiment using the mechanism of Photosolubilization as revealed by R. K. Blake and others of the E. I. DuPont de nemours Research Laboratories measureing the clearing rate of a chlorobromide emulsion doped with 2-mercapto-4-phenylthiazole indicates that the fixing rate is substantially modified by very small concentrations of this compound, and that the rate remains essentially constant over quite a …
The Effect Of Development Time, Temperature, And Sulfite Content On The Acutance Of A Photographic Emulsion, Jeffrey Waltzer
The Effect Of Development Time, Temperature, And Sulfite Content On The Acutance Of A Photographic Emulsion, Jeffrey Waltzer
Theses
Acutance of Plus-X film was examined as a function of development time, temperature, and sulfite content. Five levels of each factor were used with equal increments respectively. Method of printing knife-edge targets and noting the extent of edge-effects was also sought for. Acutance was found to increase with increasing development time and temperature but decreased when the sulfite content of the developer exceeded the recommended amount.

An Experimental Apparatus For Measuring The Relative Illumination Of Finite Conjugate Lenses, Claude Fedele, Leo Neumann
An Experimental Apparatus For Measuring The Relative Illumination Of Finite Conjugate Lenses, Claude Fedele, Leo Neumann
Theses
The apparatus described is designed to measure relative illumination of finite conjugate lenses with comparable accuracy and reliability than existing methods and provides a graphical output with less time expended for data acquisition. An opto-mechanical scanning system is utilized for transmitting light pulses from known image field positions to a photomultiplier tube. The light pulses are transmitted to the phototube via an optical system consisting of an array of lucite rods (light pipes) positioned in the image plane of the lens under test. The rods terminate at a cylindrical housing which contains a rotating lens prism assembly which scans the …
Use Of Borohydride To Determine The Difference In The Developable Density For A Chemically Sensitized And Non-Sensitized Emulsion., S. Laufer, R. Golembe
Use Of Borohydride To Determine The Difference In The Developable Density For A Chemically Sensitized And Non-Sensitized Emulsion., S. Laufer, R. Golembe
Theses
An emulsion prepared so as to minimize the effect of any chemical action on the grains was in its "primitive" state, i.e., that no chemical sensitizing had occurred during the formation of the emulsion grains in "inert" gelatin. Another emulsion was made so as to maximize the effect of any chemical action on the grains by chemical sensitizing methods. This emulsion was also prepared in "inert" gelatin. Sodium Borohydride was added at various levels of concentration to chemically fog both emulsions. The developable density was measured. Also, an attempt was made to measure the amount of reduction sensitization occurring if …
The Effect Of Turbid Water In The Optical Path Of A Photographic System On The Modulation Transfer Function Of That System, G. Fulmer, Harvey Greenberg
The Effect Of Turbid Water In The Optical Path Of A Photographic System On The Modulation Transfer Function Of That System, G. Fulmer, Harvey Greenberg
Theses
Various levels of a turbid suspension were introduced into a specially constructed tank and photographs of a variable transmittance sinusoidal object containing a step tablet were taken. The resulting images were processed and measured on a micro-densitometer to obtain the modulation transfer functions of the system. Results indicate that with increasing turbidity there is a speed loss, increased flare or reduced contrast, and decreasing modulation transfer functions. The increasing flare is not the only factor causing the demodulation of the underwater images.

A Study Of The Effects On Sigma D And Resolved Lines As A Function Of Spatial Multi-Superposition Of Images, Jerome Katz, Roger Umbdenstock
Theses
In photography the fidelity of the image is often degraded due to the random graininess associated with photographic emulsions. A study was performed to obtain objective and subjective data on the effects of granularity and graininess as a function of the number of spatially superpositioned images. A target was designed and built.* Individual negatives were made utilizing copy equipment with a vacuum back to ensure precise registration during exposure. These individual negatives were then imaged onto 16mm film utilizing standard motion picture equipment and a vacuum platen which was designed and built to ensure precise registration of individual negatives during …
