A Proposed Treatment Approach And Environment For The Female Alcoholic, Stuart Wallace
A Proposed Treatment Approach And Environment For The Female Alcoholic, Stuart Wallace
Theses
This thesis by Stuart Wallace presents a comprehensive proposal for a treatment approach and residential environment specifically tailored for female alcoholics, with a unique emphasis on accommodating women who are also mothers with young children. Drawing on the author’s clinical experience and a thorough review of the literature, the work addresses the lack of structured, gender-sensitive treatment programs and proposes a model that integrates both behavioral and humanistic therapeutic modalities.
The document explores the distinct characteristics and treatment needs of female alcoholics, noting their underrepresentation in traditional recovery facilities and the compounded challenges they face, such as co-occurring mental health …
Art Therapy For Emotionally Disturbed Children: Clay And Media Dimension Variables, Wendy Wirth
Art Therapy For Emotionally Disturbed Children: Clay And Media Dimension Variables, Wendy Wirth
Theses
This thesis investigates the application of art therapy for the evaluation and treatment of emotionally disturbed children, with a specific focus on the use of clay and Media Dimension Variables (MDV). The author posits that clay is an exemplary medium for therapeutic intervention due to its plasticity, three-dimensional nature, and capacity to range from resistive to fluid states. The study adopts Kagan’s (1969) MDV system to structure therapeutic interventions, categorizing art activities by three distinct variables:
-
Structure: The extent of guidelines or controls (High vs. Low).
-
Media Quality: The inherent properties of the material (Resistive vs. Fluid).
-
Task Complexity …
Abused Wives, Predictors Of Leaving: Research And Theory, Sandra Schoonover-Kump
Abused Wives, Predictors Of Leaving: Research And Theory, Sandra Schoonover-Kump
Theses
This research examines the psychological and sociological variables that predict whether an abused wife will leave or remain with an abusive partner. The author evaluates four primary theoretical frameworks: masochism theory, learned helplessness theory, modeling theory, and intrafamily victimization theory. To test hypotheses generated by these theories, in-depth interviews were conducted with fifty randomly selected clients from a center for abused women in St. Louis.
The study identifies three major factors that significantly predict an abused wife’s decision to leave:
-
Severity of Injury: Wives who left were more severely injured by their partners than those who stayed.

The Study Of Crisis Intervention Programs In Selected Community Mental Health Centers, Susan Van Cleve
Theses
This culminating project by Susan Van Cleve (1979) examines the theoretical foundations and operational realities of crisis intervention programs within community mental health centers. The study begins by distinguishing between psychiatric emergencies and crisis states, utilizing the theoretical frameworks established by Lindemann and Caplan to define the phases of crisis and the principles of intervention. It outlines the essential elements of a comprehensive crisis service, which must include 24-hour telephone hotlines, face-to-face interventions (walk-in and outreach), emergency medical/psychiatric backup, and community linkage networks.
A significant portion of the paper is dedicated to a descriptive survey of 41 agencies in Illinois …

William And Marion Kettner: Brother Bill And The Lass From Tuolumne, Lucille Clark Duvall
Theses
The presence and financial impact of the United States Navy upon the city and county of San Diego cannot be disputed. The person responsible in large part for this impact was Congressman William Kettner, whose vision, foresight, and singleminded devotion to the city was legendary in his time. Little is known today of this outstanding citizen save a main thoroughfare, Kettner Boulevard, named in the Congressman's honor in 1921. Yet this man, among other accomplishments, brought the Navy to San Diego, which today claims one out of every three county residents as either active duty, retired, a member of the …
Theory And Practice Of Integrated Psychology, Marjorie L. Rand
Theory And Practice Of Integrated Psychology, Marjorie L. Rand
Theses
Marjorie L. Rand’s Theory and Practice of Integrated Psychotherapy explores a holistic approach to therapy that unifies the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Drawing from Gestalt therapy, Reichian therapy, movement therapy, breath awareness, and meditation, Rand presents a flexible and adaptive therapeutic model that prioritizes self-awareness and personal growth.
The thesis challenges the traditional medical and psychological models, which often treat the mind and body as separate entities. Instead, Rand argues for an integrative approach where energy flows freely, reducing psychological and physical distress. She discusses the role of energy healing, the chakra system, and bodywork as essential components of …

Second Stage Autoradiographic Amplification Of Developed Underexposed Tri X Emulsion Images, David Dempster
Theses
A series of del iberately underexposed Kodak Film Type Tri-X negatives were first, conventionally developed, the image silver made radioactive with sulfur-35 thiourea, and by using an autoradiographic technique, the image recovered on X-ray film. The resolution and characteristic curve parameters of the final image compared to those of the original donor image were determined by varying the secondary exposure time (contact time between radioactivated film and x-ray emulsion), type of x-ray films and exposure levels. The Tri-X Pan emulsion donor image was amplified using Kodak "NMC", "MA" and "RP" X-ray films as receivers. "NMC" was slightly preferable to "MA", …

The Measurement Of Depolarized Radiation For Monitoring The Mass Concentration Of Particulates, Bruce E. Wilson
Theses
The depolarization of backscattered polarized incident radiation which is expressed as a depolarization ratio was investigated as a means of monitoring the mass concentration of particles in stacks from coal-fired burners. This involved the design of an instrument that would detect small levels of radiation. Two methods were investigated. The first utilized a Gallium Arsenide laser and a silicon detector diode; the second was composed of a xenon flash lamp and a photomultiplier detector tube.
The relationship between the depolarization ratio and the mass concentration of diamond particles in the 0.01 gm/m3 to 0.5 gm/m3 was determined. Diamond …

Evolution Of A Program "Driving After Age 55", Michael Andrew Seaton
Theses
This thesis documents the development of “Driving After Age 55,” a specialized driver education program tailored for older adults, particularly members of the National Retired Teachers Association/American Association of Retired Persons (NRTA/AARP). Created during Seaton's tenure with NRTA/AARP and his graduate studies at Lindenwood College, the program addresses the unique needs of drivers aged 55 and older—an often-overlooked demographic in traditional defensive driving curricula. The thesis outlines the rationale for a separate course, citing age-related physical changes, increased accident rates per miles driven, and a lack of formal driver training among older populations. It includes an assessment of existing programs, …
