A View Of The Creative Process Influenced By The Philosophy Of Susanne K. Langer, Robert E. Sitro, Robert Johnston

Theses

My thesis work consists of a series of figurative paintings that began as direct responses to the female nude model and then were completed without her presence, utilizing glazing and palette knife techniques. This approach allowed more freedom for creative resolutions. The creative process involved is highly personal and this paper represents an effort to gain a greater understanding of its complexities. The emphasis will be on the creative process in the visual arts. The direction of my research has been strongly influenced by the philosophy of Susanne K. Langer. I have found that her concept of what constitutes a …

Preparation And Characterization Of Blocked Diisocyanate Monomers For Dental Applications, Stephen Richard Angeli Sep 1983

Preparation And Characterization Of Blocked Diisocyanate Monomers For Dental Applications, Stephen Richard Angeli

Theses

Six new monomers were prepared and characterized. The six monomers are blocked diisocyanate compounds. In the preparation 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate was first blocked with 2=hydroxyethyl methacrylate in the para NCO position. Six different blocking agents were then used to block the ortho NCO in the preparation of the monomers: (1) p-methoxyphenol, (2) m-methoxyphenol, (3) o-methoxyphenol, (4) p-chlorophenol, (5) m-chlorophenol, and (6) o-chlorophenol. The six monomers were characterized by mp, liquid chromatography, IR, NMR, and elemental analysis. All the characterizations show that the monomers are indeed the desired products.

Mathematical Modeling Of The Unsteady State Glucose And Insulin Concentrations In Blood For Normal Subjects And Diabetics, Tung Shih May 1983

Mathematical Modeling Of The Unsteady State Glucose And Insulin Concentrations In Blood For Normal Subjects And Diabetics, Tung Shih

Theses

A mathematical model of the blood-glucose regulatory system has been developed. This model describes an oral glucose tolerance test adequately and simulates the behavior of the real physiological system using computer techniques.

Regression of the rate constants involved have been effected by conforming the theoretical functions to the data from glucose tolerance test in nonobese normal subjects, obese normal subjects, nonobese mild diabetics, obese mild diabetics, nonobese moderate diabetics and obese moderate diabetics measured by continuous sampling after oral ingestion. Most of the data were conformed within the limits of experimental error. The result of optimal parameters lead to a …

A Parameter Identification System For The Human Visual Evoked Response, Robert Kalle Michaels May 1983

A Parameter Identification System For The Human Visual Evoked Response, Robert Kalle Michaels

Theses

The Human Visual Evoked Response (VER) provides a useful tool for analyzing an individual's visual system. However, mere inspection of the signal may not always be the best way to make a diagnosis of the patient. To aid in this diagnosis a parameter identification system has been developed which fits the response to an analog model. The development of the model was based on the results of a survey of previous work in the field. Data were acquired from a data acquisition/processing system developed at the New Jersey University of Medicine and Dentistry and the Eye Institute of New Jersey. …

Theses

Although it may appear that this thesis represents a narrowly defined project with respect to the building, the type of resident and the time in which it is occupied, in reality, its associations go in two directions. The thesis reaches back to historical and intellectual precedents, while at the same time lays a fertile ground for related work in the future. The following documents establish the goals and organization of the thesis and in doing so, become the introduction.
