An Investigation Of The Vapor Cushion Thickness, Temperature, And Vaporization Time Of Leidenfrost Drops, Frank Bonsignore
An Investigation Of The Vapor Cushion Thickness, Temperature, And Vaporization Time Of Leidenfrost Drops, Frank Bonsignore
Theses
The subject of this investigation was the film boiling of liquid drops on a hot horizontal surface (the Leidenfrost Phenomenon) . Using Gottfried and Bell's model of a Leidenfrost drop, the thickness of the vapor cushion beneath film boiling water drops, 6, was calculated over a range of test plate and drop temperatures. The results indicated that the vapor cushion thickness varied very slowly with test plate temperature and maintained a finite value at test plate temperatures where the Leidenfrost Phenomenon cannot be initiated. To experimentally verify this fact, a heat exchanger was fabricated to cool the hot test plate …

The Halftone Effect In Color Photographic Enlargements, Rick Crowsey
The Halftone Effect In Color Photographic Enlargements, Rick Crowsey
Theses
In continuous-tone photography, a 'Halftone Effect" sometimes occurs that alters the tone reproduction in a distinctive way. Highlight contrast is decreased and middletone densities are lowered. Published data show that this effect occurs in black-and-white photography when the grain pattern of the negative is reproduced very sharply in the print . High-magnification enlargements are especially susceptible. Does a corresponding effect occur in color photography? A search of the literature reveals no answer. The research here described is to determine, by direct measurements of densities in sharp and blurred enlargements, the magnitude of the halftone effect in particular color enlargements from …
A Comparison Of The Random Dot And The Conventional Halftone Printing Process With Respect To Color Characteristics, Sanat Hazra
A Comparison Of The Random Dot And The Conventional Halftone Printing Process With Respect To Color Characteristics, Sanat Hazra
Theses
A comparative study was made of random dot printing and conventional halftone printing with respect to color characteristics. Random dot printing is similar to continuous tone printing or very high frequency screen ruling and is capable of overcoming the limitatio of halftone printing. The randomly selected dots are achieved by the grain structure of the pre- sensitized printing plates. The advantages and the disadvantages of this process over conventional halftone printing process are discussed. The images and the test targets of both the processes were exposed to, and printed from a single plate for each process color so as to …
Depth Of Field In High Magnification Fine Grain Photography, Mark Konieczny
Depth Of Field In High Magnification Fine Grain Photography, Mark Konieczny
Theses
Under normal, general purpose photographic conditions, depth of field is determined by the size of a geometrical blur circle on the negative or print. Under high magnification conditions, another means of measurement must be used based on the wave nature of light and the resolution of the imaging system. For this purpose, an effective depth of field was determined on the basis that no significant deterioration of image quality could be detected by means of resolution and Transfer function in the range of frequencies where the eye transfer function is at its peak. The experimental values obtained were compared with …
A Digital Image Processing System For Slow Scan Television, James Schueckler
A Digital Image Processing System For Slow Scan Television, James Schueckler
Theses
This paper describes a low cost, but powerful, digital image processing system. Although general purpose, it was designed for experimentation with amateur radio slow scan television (SSTV). The project involved conceptualizing, designing, building, programming, and operating the complete integrated system. The image format is the SSTV standard: 128 picture elements (pixels) per line, 128 lines, 4 bits per pixel. The IEEE Standard 696 (S-100) microcomputer bus was used for system interconnect to provide flexibility and expandability. Several microcomputer boards were purchased, and two image interface boards were designed and built by the author. One image interface board provides for transmitting …

Correlation Between Maximum Density And Log Exposure Range Of Quality Prints, David Baer
Correlation Between Maximum Density And Log Exposure Range Of Quality Prints, David Baer
Theses
An investigation was made to determine the correlation between the maximum density and log exposure range of photographic paper when making "quality" prints. The 1966 ANSI log exposure range formula assumes that papers which have the same log exposure range but differ in maximum density will print the same negative successfully. It has been shown with 27 Judges that when the 1966 ANSI log expo sure range formula is used the maximum density has an effect on the effective log exposure range such that papers which have the same log exposure range but differ in maximum density will not print …
Simultaneous High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Determination Of Procainamide, N-Acetylprocainamide, Disopyramide, Mono-N-Dealkyldisopyramide, Quinidine, And Propranolol In Serum, James F. Wesley
Theses
We describe a method for the simultaneous high performance liquid chromatographic determination of several antiarrhythmic drugs and some of their metabolites after extraction from 2.5 ml of spiked pooled sera. The extracts were applied to a C8 reversed phase column. Nine compounds of interest were resolved within the 30 minute run. An initial mobile phase of 80% phosphate (25 mmol/L, pH 3.5), 20 % organic (acetonitrile: methanol, 2:3) was maintained for 2 min at which time a linear gradient was used to change the mobile phase to 30% phosphate, 70% organic at 20 min after injection. This composition was maintained …

Bibliotherapy To Help Young Children Cope With Their Problems, Marjorie J. Semon
Bibliotherapy To Help Young Children Cope With Their Problems, Marjorie J. Semon
Theses
Since children are facing many stresses both from within and without, it is felt that bibliotherapy may be a way of helping them face and cope with their problems. After a search to see if a curriculum guide had been developed to help kindergarten children through bibliotherapy, none was discovered. An extensive review of existing literature was then made to learn about children and stress at the pre-operational level, as well as an in-depth study of bibliotherapy from its history, research on bibliotherapy pertaining to young children, the qualifications of the bibliotherapist, how one determines whether the need exists, and …

Predicting Color Print Filtration And Exposure, James A. Klingshirn
Predicting Color Print Filtration And Exposure, James A. Klingshirn
Theses
A method of mathematically modeling the response of a system in which color reflection prints are made from a negative was investigated. Data was generated by making a series of prints with different yellow and magenta filtrations at a series of exposures. First, second and third order regression curves were fit to the filtration versus reflection density curves and the exposure versus density curves that were thus generated. The predictions of the sets of equations were compared to the data and it was found that the filtration could be predicted more accurately than the exposure time, because, the response curves …
Direct Transfer Positive Preparation By The Use Of The Hell Chromagraph Dc-300 Color Scanner, Steven Berg
Direct Transfer Positive Preparation By The Use Of The Hell Chromagraph Dc-300 Color Scanner, Steven Berg
Theses
Direct transfer cylinders are usually imaged from positives created off of the camera back. In this thesis a method was proposed to create positives from a dot-generating laser scanner that would fit the requirements of direct transfer cylinders. A test gray scale was scanned and a positive produced which contained square dots as opposed to round dots. This positive was used to etch a cylinder and then the cylinder was run on the Champlaln rotogravure press, located in the school of printing. From the printed results of the first test positive a tone reproduction study was performed to determine how …

The Development Of Art In The Elementary Child K-6 With Emphasis On The Four Major Concepts Of Art: Line, Mary Christine Melby
Theses
This paper identifies the developmental stages in children' s art and demonstrates the necessity of having a developmental art program in the kindergarten through sixth grades. The art program should be one that provides for the students ' needs to express themselves creatively and appropriately at each age . The act of creative involvement will allow children to refine their motor and perceptual skills, help them to express their emotions freely, and enable them to cope with their individual growth patterns.
The subjects used in this study were five to twelve year old children, ranging from kindergarten through the sixth …

An Investigation Of A Mathematical Model To Characterize The Nonlinear Nature Of A Lithographic Film System, David S. Holbrook
An Investigation Of A Mathematical Model To Characterize The Nonlinear Nature Of A Lithographic Film System, David S. Holbrook
Theses
An attempt was made to obtain a set of spatial transfer functions which would allow the prediction of output effective exposure distributions for a nonlinear lithographic film system. Slit exposures were used as one-dimensional system inputs. It was proposed that the use of slits would allow the calculation of a general system transfer function to be simplified. The mathematical model chosen to describe this nonlinear transfer was shown to be invalid due to the nonlinear relationship of small area system gain (small area output effective exposure divided by the input exposure) as a function on input exposure. The model,, based …
The Comparison Of Densitometric Measurement With Gravimetric Measurement Of Wet-On-Wet Ink Trapping, Kongsak Lawphongpanich
The Comparison Of Densitometric Measurement With Gravimetric Measurement Of Wet-On-Wet Ink Trapping, Kongsak Lawphongpanich
Theses
Densitometric and gravimetric methods are employed to measure the percent of ink trapped in a wet-on-wet transfer. This study seeks to discover the relationship of the two methods and if there is a significant difference between the percent gravimetric and percent apparent trapping. An IGT Printability tester (Model-A2) with two printing discs is used to apply ink onto paper. When using the gravimetric method the amount of ink on the disc and ink transferred onto paper are weighed with an analytical balance. The author then calculates the percent ink trapping. When using the densitometric methods densities are measured by polarizing …

Systems Approach To St. Louis State Hospital's Referral Program, Reza Vahidi
Systems Approach To St. Louis State Hospital's Referral Program, Reza Vahidi
Theses
This thesis presents a systems approach to analyzing and redesigning referral and billing processes at St. Louis State Hospital in Missouri. Recognizing the growing complexity of hospital operations, the study applies systems theory to evaluate inefficiencies in the hospital’s referral program, particularly in its interactions with external agencies and community physicians. The hospital historically relied on manual procedures and fragmented communication methods that contributed to delays, inaccuracies, and underutilization of available resources.
The study examines the referral workflow from intake to admission, identifying systemic bottlenecks and proposing structured changes to improve coordination. Emphasis is placed on streamlining communication between hospital …

Art Therapy In The Treatment Of Emotionally Distrubed Children With Learning Problems, William L. Franklin
Art Therapy In The Treatment Of Emotionally Distrubed Children With Learning Problems, William L. Franklin
Theses
In my work, in a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed children, I have observed that many, if not a majority, of the residents experience difficulty in learning . Emotionally disturbed children exhibit inappropriate emotional reactions which hinder their ability to make appropriate responses to their environment. Uhlin (1979), described their predicament as being unable to structure and maintain their experiences of reality. As a result, such children function in a distorted manner (Uhlin, 1979). Emotional disturbances can range from children who seemingly become detached from reality; for example, the autistic children to the less observable or detectable disturbances related …
A Descriptive Survey Of Rural Doctor Procurement Programs, J. H. Seitz
A Descriptive Survey Of Rural Doctor Procurement Programs, J. H. Seitz
Theses
Various techniques have been used by many rural communities in an effort to recruit and maintain physicians. However, evidence indicates that if the doctor procurement program gets the community involved, results will surely follow. The community effort basically is the one factor that helps recruit and maintain physician manpower to their community. The doctor procurement committee is the foundation to form a solid structure that shows the physician that there is cooperation, dedication, desire and a sense or belonging. It is these factors, along with others discussed in this thesis that convinces the physician to relocate in the rural community.

Some Observations On The Development Of Pharmacy And Recommendations For Improving The Allocation Of Resources At St. Joseph's Hospital, Ivy Ann D. Lee-Sharpe
Theses
It is the intent of this paper to trace the developmental history of pharmacy alluding to the profession as an integral part of medicine when treatment was simple, magically connected and filled with superstitions. It separated when medical knowledge expanded, technology advanced and regulations formalized pharmacy. Social and environmental factors established the needs for specialists to handle, compound, prepare and dispense drugs and medicines. The institutionalization of care and the entrance of the pharmacists in these institutions were influential in this separation and will be discussed. Although formally separated, pharmacy stayed intimately linked with medicine in literature and formal education …
A Midsummer Night's Dream: A Scenic And Lighting Design, Stephanie Dee Young
A Midsummer Night's Dream: A Scenic And Lighting Design, Stephanie Dee Young
Theses
This thesis by Stephanie Dee Young details the scenic and lighting design process for a 1981 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Lindenwood College, undertaken as a Master of Fine Arts project. The work examines the collaborative nature of theatrical production, emphasizing the interplay between director, designers, and other creative staff in shaping a unified artistic vision. The initial directorial concept, rooted in the metaphor “wings in flight,” evolved into an Eastern-influenced aesthetic that emphasized fantasy, mystique, and romance. The scenic design utilized abstracted Eastern motifs to distinguish the structured court from the magical forest, employing fabric panels, custom-built …
