A Curriculum For The Teaching Of Writing At The Fifth Grade Level Using Cerebral Symmetry, Karen Sue Roth
A Curriculum For The Teaching Of Writing At The Fifth Grade Level Using Cerebral Symmetry, Karen Sue Roth
Theses
Children's writing doesn't just happen. The transferring of private thoughts onto paper is a fragile and complicated press. To make the best use of instructional time and assure the quality of children's writing experiences, this author upon reviewing the current research felt a writing program based on integrating the right and left modes of thinking in a non-threatening environment was necessary. This is a curriculum designed to involve both modes of perceiving. It allows for the right hemisphere modes by encouraging clustering, body movement, color, image making, and metaphoric thinking. It enhances the left hemisphere modes by providing exercises for …

Discrimination In The Assessment Process: The Role Of Professional Appraisal, Christopher G. Sansone
Discrimination In The Assessment Process: The Role Of Professional Appraisal, Christopher G. Sansone
Theses
The thesis Discrimination in the Assessment Process: The Role of Professional Appraisal by Christopher G. Sansone explores the complexities of property tax assessment and how disparities in appraisal practices contribute to inequities. It argues that many citizens lack an understanding of property taxation, making them vulnerable to unfair assessments. The study examines the historical evolution of property taxation, including taxpayer revolts that have shaped modern assessment policies. It highlights issues such as assessment discrimination against lower-income property owners, political influences on the appraisal process, and the impact of legislative and judicial decisions.
A key argument is that professional real estate …
Dib On The Xerox Workstation, Chien-Kuo Chuang
Dib On The Xerox Workstation, Chien-Kuo Chuang
Theses
DIB - A Distributed Implementation of Backtracking is a general-purpose package which allows applications that use tree-traversal algorithms such as backtrack and branch-and-bound to be easily implemented on a multicomputer. The application program needs to specify only the root of the recursion tree, the computation to be performed at each node, and how to generate children at each node. In addition, the application program may optionally specify how to synthesize values of tree nodes from their children's values and how to disseminate information in the tree. DIB uses a distributed algorithm, transparent to the application programmer, that can divide the …

An Investigation Of Flexographic Duotone Reproduction With Variations In Press Pressure Settings, Hirohiko Itoh
An Investigation Of Flexographic Duotone Reproduction With Variations In Press Pressure Settings, Hirohiko Itoh
Theses
Improved print quality has been become an important issue for the flexographic printing method. This is especially true in the area of fine quality halftone reproduction. The nature of this printing method which uses elastic materials for its printing plate is difficult to control. The main issue is the control of the pressure between the plate and the substrate. Extensive research has been done to change the hardness and the structure of the plate, however, the pressure used to transfer ink still remains a critical factor in achieving good halftone quality. Although the critical pressure control of the impression from …

An Extended Relational Data Base Management System For Engineering Design, Charles Fung
An Extended Relational Data Base Management System For Engineering Design, Charles Fung
Theses
At present, the use of the relational model in the engineering design support domain is restricted due to the following: lack of ability to handle complex objects, no support for Abstract Data Types, inappropriate concurrency control for long transactions, no support for versioning and update propagation, poor efficiency, and insufficient design rule checking and consistency contraints enforcement. A simple relational database management system is designed and implemented under the UNIX operating system to incorporate two major extensions: support of user-defined Abstract Data Types and operators, and built-in Design Data Versioning. The design, implementation, and possible extensions to these new facilities …

It consists of a body, a spring, a diaphragm and a cap. Each part required special handling by the robot.
A simulated canister control valve assembly cell has been built in a laboratory using an Adept One robot. This report covers the design process of the cell along with the test of the cell. The report also includes pertinent …
Investigations Of A Plasma Rotating In A Magnetic Field, Janet E. Andre
Investigations Of A Plasma Rotating In A Magnetic Field, Janet E. Andre
Theses
A magnetically rotating electric arc of coaxial design was produced in argon with and without zinc at 1 atm. The arc was characterized in terms of temperature by varying the source conditions. The axial temperatures decreased with distance from the cathode tip and the distribution was mathematically described by T = m * log (x) + b. The radial temperature distribution between the cathode and anode was determined by spectral analysis. The most homogeneous conditions with an argon/zinc plasma varied by approximately 4 % and could be applied in spectrochemical analysis. A steady state condition in terms of the frequency …
An Investigation Into The Limits Of Registration Error In Tri-Color Continuous Tone Images, Carolyn Braley
An Investigation Into The Limits Of Registration Error In Tri-Color Continuous Tone Images, Carolyn Braley
Theses
A study has been completed which quantifies the amount of misregistration allowable on a continuous tone multi-color image. By the use of color separation filters and a misregistration device, the actual threshold limits of registration have been derived for each individual color. The correlation between the subjective, visual impression, and the actual numerical quantity have been examined. As a result the specific threshold limits have been determined and can be used for any continuous tone imaging application.

Vector Quantization Of True-Color Images, Stephen H. Kristy
Vector Quantization Of True-Color Images, Stephen H. Kristy
Theses
Vector quantization (VQ) has recently emerged as a powerful and efficient technique for digital speech and image coding. The goal of such a process is data compression: to minimize communication channel capacity or digital storage memory requirements while maintaining an acceptable fidelity level of the data. A review of various VQ algorithms and their respective design considerations as applied to color images is given. Fidelity measurements and signal-to-noise ratio calculations are discussed. A modified mean-residual vector quantizer using the LBG design algorithm with color signal preprocessing is described. The algorithm is developed to yield a bit rate of 0.709 bits …
Addition Of Structured Records To The Unix™ And Ms-Dos™ File Systems, Nancy Wisotzke
Addition Of Structured Records To The Unix™ And Ms-Dos™ File Systems, Nancy Wisotzke
Theses
A file system consists of operating system code supporting the I/O operations that open, close, create, read and write to files. Record oriented I/O is not a feature of either the UNIX or the MS-DOS native file system. The data is stored by the file system as a sequence of bytes. It is the task of the user to design an application dependent structure on the file system. In the case of logically related fixed or variable length data, a record structure is desirable. This thesis describes a set of extensions to the UNIX and the MS-DOS file systems that …
An Analysis Of Electronic Color Scanning Techniques For Application To The Dye Transfer Process, William Allan Six
An Analysis Of Electronic Color Scanning Techniques For Application To The Dye Transfer Process, William Allan Six
Theses
The dye transfer process is the photographic printing process used to produce the highest quality photographic prints to be submitted to printers for reproduction. Dye transfer prints are valued by advertising agencies for their highly saturated colors and ease of retouching. Photographers, museums, art galleries and collectors also value dye prints for the archival qualities. Dye transfer uses cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes to reproduce a color image. Photographic masking is used extensively for color correction, tone compression, and detail enhancement. The masks are projected with the original transparency to make continuous-tone separation negatives. Shallow-reliefgelatin positive-image matrices are made by …
Packaging Requirements For A Sampling Mechanism For Self-Selection Liquid Foundation Makeup, Osnat Lustig
Packaging Requirements For A Sampling Mechanism For Self-Selection Liquid Foundation Makeup, Osnat Lustig
Theses
The cosmetics industry and retailers of cosmetic products face a problem of sampling of packaged merchandise by inconsiderate shoppers in self-service retail outlets. The problem is particularly serious in facial products such as liquid foundation makeup. The consumer desires hands-on feel of the product in order to make an unaided purchase decision of the product, and will continue to sample packaged products as long as there are no other alternatives. However, cost and operation considerations of the cosmetics marketing system often precludes the availability of such alternatives. This study attempts to provide an evaluation tool which will focus on the …

A Study Of Mutispectral Temporal Scene Normalization Using Pseudo-Invariant Features, Applied To Landsat Tm Imagery, William Volchok
A Study Of Mutispectral Temporal Scene Normalization Using Pseudo-Invariant Features, Applied To Landsat Tm Imagery, William Volchok
Theses
A new technique for performing temporal image normalization using pseudo-invariant features was investigated. The technique was applied to the six reflected spectral band images of the Landsat TM sensors. The temporal normalization of pseudo-invariant features yielded linear normalizing functions for all bands. The errors in the normalization of pseudo-invariant features was determined to be on the order of three digital counts, which was estimated to be equivalent to reflectance errors on the order of one percent reflectance. Temporal normalization of all features in the Landsat scene shows great potential for both quantitative and qualitative temporal change detection.

There are four chapters in this paper, chapter one is the conceptual development on homogeneous transformations, express the position and orientation of the transposition of an object in Cartisian coordinates. Chapter two develops the method of obtaining the Cartisian coordinate position and orientation of the end effector for a manipulator, give the joint coordinate as input and use the homogeneous transformation to express the position and orientation. Chapter 3 is a very difficult one; it solves the parameters for the …
An Investigation Of The Application Of Utility Theory To Determine The Value Of Time: The Demand For Interactive Information Systems In Student Markets, Gordon S. Kalley
An Investigation Of The Application Of Utility Theory To Determine The Value Of Time: The Demand For Interactive Information Systems In Student Markets, Gordon S. Kalley
Theses
The economic rational of many contemporary businesses is the provision of services or labor saving equipment which their customers' pay for in order• to save themselves time. A major decision such an enterprise must make prior to entry into the market i=_ whether enough of a market exists to make its entry worthwhile. Such firms would be able to make better resource allocation decisions if they could have a quantitative measure of the relationship of their consumer's valuation of time vis a vi money. This study proposes such a measure.
Interactive information systems, whose viability depends to a large degree …

Model Experiment Of Rock Fracturing Caused By Driving Piles, Dai-Heyng Lee
Theses
The geotechical construction problem of rock fracturing caused by pile driving is investigated using a laboratory model. One inch diameter closed bottom steel pipes were driven into a simulated rock mass consisting of masonry bricks having an average compressive strength 3,200 psi. Both single pile and five pile model groups were tested. The single pile tests indicated that a threshold of penetration behavior occurred at a theorical hammer energy of 100 ft-lb and this was used for the group tests. Penetration rates were measured using an optical level.
Piles in the five pile model group were initially driven to a …
