A Stereo Vision Technique Based On The Multi-Positioned Camera Criterion, Jie Bao
A Stereo Vision Technique Based On The Multi-Positioned Camera Criterion, Jie Bao
Theses
A modified feature based stereo vision [sic] technique is described in this thesis. The technique uses the curve-segments as the feature primitives in the matching process. The local characteristics of the curve-segments are extracted by the, Generalized Hough Transform.
A set of images of a scene, which are taken by a multi-positioned camera satisfying the parallelism criterion, are first filtered by the Laplacian of a Gaussian operator in different widths, i.e. coarse to fine channels. At each channel, the Generalized Hough Transform is applied to the curve-segments in each image. The curve position, the curve-length, the curve centroid, the average …

Simulation Of Random Packing Of Hard Spheres Using Monte Carlo Method, Sung-Ho Park
Theses
A computer based method of generating a random packing of hard spheres is described. Using a Monte Carlo method as employed in the field of Computational Statistical Physics, packing of hard spheres are generated and analyzed.
The mean packing fractions for the present assemblies of 1000 spheres are 0.555±0.015 after pouring and 0.582±0.018 after 10 cycles of shaking. These values are approximately 5 to 6 per cent lower than the experimental results of G.D. Scott[30], but similar with the result of Visscher & Bolsterli [17].
The mean coordination numbers are 5.97 and 6.33 for the pouring and shaking case, respectively. …
Design And Analysis Of Movable Boundary Allocation Protocol, Karun Sekhri
Design And Analysis Of Movable Boundary Allocation Protocol, Karun Sekhri
Theses
The increasing digital communications traffic will require very high speed networks. The use of high communication speed increases the ratio between end to end propagation delay and the packet transmission time. This increase causes rapid performance deterioration and restricts the utilization of the high system bandwidth in broadcast channel based systems. Using several parallel channels in place of a single channel improves this ratio. For a given system bandwidth the total system capacity is increased by bandwidth division and parallel communication. FTDMA protocols have been suggested for the parallel channel network and these protocols are suitable for different loads. In …

Multiprocessor System Design Tutor : Expert System Approach, Rakesh Kamdar
Theses
To increase computational bandwidth and system resilience, integration of several microprocessors in a single system becomes necessary. The overall throughput and efficiency of such a system is directly dependent on the hardware and software interconnection supported by the basic microprocessor chip. Sometimes it becomes difficult to put together all the information for design criteria and all the design related formulas.
The approach made here is to continuously update the hardware and software information in the database related to a given microprocessor. This information can be accessed at any time for efficient design solution. Intel 80386 and Motorola 68020 microprocessors are …

Demulsification And Separation Of Oil In A Water/Particulate System, Fong-Jung Tai
Demulsification And Separation Of Oil In A Water/Particulate System, Fong-Jung Tai
Theses
The wastewater generated from installation factories contains high suspended solids ( SS ) and oil. Effective removal of oil and clay particles in washrack wastewater can be achieved by using organic polymer TFL-398 alone or in conjunction with alum. The dissolved/emulsified oil concentration and suspended solids are used to represent the degree of oil demulsification and clay particles destabilization, respectively.
To improve the efficiency of oil demulsification and reduce the chemical consumption, pretreatment of the influent wastewater is essentially necessary. pH adjustment to 11-12 generally reduces chemical requirement. Total oil concentration was reduced significantly at pH = 11.7 without any …

Evaluating The Feasibility Of A Vendor Certification Program For A Mid-Sized Pharmaceutical Company, Clarice P. Johnson
Theses
To compete effectively in the global market-place of the 1990's, manufacturers and suppliers must give up the orthodox practices of the past and create more innovative, quality oriented partnerships. One way to do this is through vendor certification.
The implementation process is examined with particular emphasis upon total management involvement and commitment. A case study approach utilizes a literature search, questionnaires from a limited number of pharmaceutical companies in New Jersey, and questionnaires from primary and secondary component suppliers.
It is confirmed that the implementation of a vendor certification program is a slowly evolving process whose success is not dependent …
Adhesion Effects In Micro Mechanisms, Dennis Alan Kalgren
Adhesion Effects In Micro Mechanisms, Dennis Alan Kalgren
Theses
Dielectric resonators (DR) are suitably shaped objects made of high dielectric constant materials like TiO2, BaO, ZnO, and accessory ingredients, which can function as electrical resonators covering a very wide frequency range upto 40GHz. The physical dimensions of dielectric resonators are in mm range. High dielectric constant material resonators seem to be ideally suited for microwave applications because of their miniature size, low loss, insensitivity to magnetic dc biasing fields, and ability to concentrate large RF magnetic fields in small volumes. However temperature stabilization of dielectric resonators is an important consideration as the center frequency is a function of temperature. …
Design Of Spatial Linkages For Dwell Function Generation, Donald F. Kelly
Design Of Spatial Linkages For Dwell Function Generation, Donald F. Kelly
Theses
Certain single-loop spatial linkages containing spherical pairs may be used as dwell function generators. Analysis and design of these linkages, however, may be too complex for the practicing engineer.
In this study a method is presented, where the set of link lengths representing a linkage are determined from a smaller set of design parameters. Graphical relationships are also found between the design parameters and functional requirements for dwell, such as output function amplitude and dwell range. These graphs may be used as design charts, and design becomes the calculation of link lengths from design parameters chosen to satisfy the functional …
