Oit: A Ux Design Project For Better Decision Making In Generative Design, Yunsheng Zhou
Oit: A Ux Design Project For Better Decision Making In Generative Design, Yunsheng Zhou
Theses
New technology, such as AI and Machine learning, grows fast and plays a crucial role in improving efficiency and reducing the repeated working load in our daily lives. In the Architecture and Engineering area, AI is widely used in generative design. Generative design is a design exploration process. The software explores all the possible permutations of a solution, quickly generating design alternatives. However, the problem is that the intelligence systems can generate thousands of solutions that difficult for users to distill. This situation even reduces the efficiency of the working flow. The project's approach is to help users make better …
Chek And Hava, Komal Ashfaq
Chek And Hava, Komal Ashfaq
Theses
Chek and Hava is an absurdist romantic comedy about using your boyfriend to rebel against your parents. While remaining light and easy to watch, it is additionally meant to have three intentionally designed layers:
1. The surface level story revolves around Hava bringing home her boyfriend Chek- an unemployed artist, that she knows her wealthy demigod parents will disapprove of. Her parents ultimately force Chek out of his carefree life and into a corporate career, accepting him and deflating Hava’s rebellion. She finally breaks free by exiting the system of their beliefs and trying to form her persona independently rather …
What Is Depression?, Megan Wade
What Is Depression?, Megan Wade
Theses
“What is Depression?” is a book design that investigates how simple graphical forms can be used to communicate a complex idea. It explores the principles and elements of design and how they can be abstracted to illustrate emotions, and it experiments with pushing the boundaries of what educational book pages can look like. Education regarding complicated subject matters such as depression are frequently overlooked or misunderstood within our society. People who are not affected by depression have a difficult time understanding what it feels like to suffer with the symptoms and emotions of the disease. This thesis investigates how to …
Secretepeppr: Computational Prediction And Characterization Of Effector-Like Proteins Secreted From Vitis Vinifera, Patrick Rynkiewicz
Secretepeppr: Computational Prediction And Characterization Of Effector-Like Proteins Secreted From Vitis Vinifera, Patrick Rynkiewicz
Theses
Plant pathology research has long placed a focus on pathogen-derived effector proteins: small, secreted proteins translocated into host cells where they subvert host basal immunity and promote infection. Recent studies suggest that some plant species secrete similar effector-like proteins during mutualistic plant-fungal interactions and affect fungal growth. In this project, a computational tool named SecretePEPPr (Secreted Plant Effector-like Protein Predictor) was written, evaluated, and tested for the purpose of predicting candidate plant effector-like proteins from a set of whole genome annotations. Among other factors, this prediction tool considered classical and non-classical secretion, protein size, and the prevalence and presence of …

Children are always curious and excited about the world, but there are often accidents around them. According to some previous studies, each year in the United States, more than 2,200 children – or six kids a day – die from an injury at home. To deal with this situation, parents usually set simple life safety rules for their children and be consistent about enforcing them in a reasonable manner. At the same time, they try to reduce the possibility of psychological harm to children when correcting errors. As a result, parents desperately need a way to watch and improve their …

The struggles individuals encounter in their lifetime have as many peaks and valleys as a roller coaster at an amusement park. The goal of my thesis work is to unpack the complex feelings of personal breakdowns so that the viewer can empathize with the raw emotions of these chaotic situations and establish a bridge of empathy from person to person. My investigation uses the relationship of life casting and found objects to create a personal, tangible connection for my audience. The struggle and turmoil we encounter in life can create the common ground needed for others to identify with these …
Complexion, Jordan Funk
Complexion, Jordan Funk
Theses
Polaroids are made up of several microscopic layers that come together to form an image. Complexion investigates the ties between this structure and the way that our skin functions. Being diagnosed with eczema as an infant, I have always been hyper-aware of how my emotional stress aggravates my eczema. Complexion depicts how my emotional state alters my skin and warps my experience of reality. Similarly, my imagery undergoes a metamorphosis and influences the chemical changes I create within the Polaroid’s white border. I scan at a high resolution, crop, and reprint the Polaroids at a larger scale. The high-quality scanning …
Exploring Historical Events Through An Interactive Timeline, Parsuree Vatanasirisuk
Exploring Historical Events Through An Interactive Timeline, Parsuree Vatanasirisuk
Theses
Learning history in school commonly takes the form of reading from textbooks and memorizing dates, places, and names. However, students have an array of different learning styles, and not everyone is good at learning by memorizing. Young students tend to lose interest in the subject and are not inspired to seek more information about what interests them in the material when they’re outside the classroom. Learning history is not only about knowing names and dates; it is more about understanding the relationships of events that occurred in the past and how they relate to and affect others. That’s why schools …

However, the consumers unable to find out how does the product being produced by the original company, and being transferred to the …
Female Pharaohs And Divine Advocacy, Stephanie Jost
Female Pharaohs And Divine Advocacy, Stephanie Jost
Theses
This analysis is addressing a form of divine advocacy by looking at the role of the goddess Hathor in the political/religious context of Egypt. Traditionally, pharaohs have used Hathor in Egyptian canonical imagery to convey messages of power- reiterating their own role as the incarnation of the God Horus. Here, we will focus on the role of traditional role of Hathor juxtaposing Royal Women in power during the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom. The two female pharaohs, Sobekneferu and Hatshepsut, used their traditional roles as incarnations of Hathor to establish a power base before becoming a “female Horus”. An iconographic …

They were followed by 4 in-depth interviews. The analysis measured if there is …
A Programmable Processing-In-Memory Architecture For Memory Intensive Applications, Mark Connolly
A Programmable Processing-In-Memory Architecture For Memory Intensive Applications, Mark Connolly
Theses
While both processing and memory architectures are rapidly improving in performance, memory architecture is lagging behind. As performance of processing architecture continues to eclipse that of memory, the memory architecture continues to become an increasingly unavoidable bottleneck in computer architecture. There are two drawbacks that are commonly associated with memory accesses: i) large delays causing the processor to remain idle waiting on data to become available and ii) the power consumption required to transfer the data. These performance issues are especially notable in research and enterprise computing applications such as deep learning models. Even when data for an application such …

This analysis goes further to study the western world's consumption of the black body, how African-Americans have been abused as a commodity; and as an overall examination of the western world's dependence on both the metaphorical and literal consumption of our bodies through labor exploitation, physical mutilation, and cannibalism.
Furthermore, the investigation encompasses how the perception and value of African-American lives has transitioned. This includes a …
Architectural Style: Distortions For Deploying And Managing Deception Technologies In Software Systems, Elijah Cantella
Architectural Style: Distortions For Deploying And Managing Deception Technologies In Software Systems, Elijah Cantella
Theses
Deception technologies are software tools that simulate/dissimulate information as security measures in software systems. Such tools can help prevent, detect, and correct security threats in the systems they are integrated with. Despite the continued existence and use of these technologies (~20+ years) the process for integrating them into software systems remains undocumented. This is due to deception technologies varying greatly from one another in a number of different ways. To begin the process of documentation, I have proposed an architectural style that describes one possible way deception technologies may be integrated into software systems.
To develop this architectural style, I …

Evaluating Performance And Efficiency Of A 16-Bit Substitution Box On An Fpga, Daniel F. Stafford
Evaluating Performance And Efficiency Of A 16-Bit Substitution Box On An Fpga, Daniel F. Stafford
Theses
A Substitution Box (S-Box) is an integral component of modern block ciphers that provides confusion. The term "confusion" was introduced by Shannon in 1949 and it refers to the complexity of the relationship between the key and the ciphertext. Most S-Boxes are non-linear in order to promote confusion. Due to this, the S-Box is usually the most complex component of a block cipher. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) features an 8-bit S-Box where the output depends on the Galois field multiplicative inverse of the input.
MK-3 is a sponge based Authenticated Encryption (AE) algorithm which provides both authenticity and confidentiality. …
The Pursuit Of Virtue In Outdoor Sport And Recreation, Jonathan Schnaufer
The Pursuit Of Virtue In Outdoor Sport And Recreation, Jonathan Schnaufer
Theses
This thesis presents for consideration six virtues that can be used to determine how adventure sports, outdoor recreation and expeditions can maintain their integrity when their methods are challenged by novel influences. Sports must adapt to social change, such as cultural, technological, or monetary influences. When they do so, mountaineering and adventure sports should be guided by ethical and aesthetic values that I argue can be maintained by adhering to the virtues of collaboration, education, athleticism, stewardship, sport empowerment and temperance. Some methods of pursuing these activities have alienated athletes from the natural component of outdoor sports and have moved …
From Darkness To Light: Bringing Collections Out Of Storage At The History Center In Tompkins County, Katie Keegan

Flexible Memory Protection With Dynamic Authentication Trees, Matthew T. Millar
Theses
As computing appliances increase in use and handle more critical information and functionalities, the importance of security grows even greater. In cases where the device processes sensitive data or performs important functionality, an attacker may be able to read or manipulate it by accessing the data bus between the processor and memory itself. As it is impossible to provide physical protection to the piece of hardware in use, it is important to provide protection against revealing confidential information and securing the device's intended operation. Defense against bus attacks such as spoofing, splicing, and replay attacks are of particular concern. Traditional …

Modeling Dyadic Human Interaction Using Sequential Neural Network, Srijan Kumar Sharma
Modeling Dyadic Human Interaction Using Sequential Neural Network, Srijan Kumar Sharma
Theses
Social networks, involving people and their interactions are at core of human society. But many current computational social methods focus more on the individual than their interactions. Deep neural networks have been successfully applied to tasks such as natural language processing, dialog modeling, or analyzing sentiments in a conversation. In these areas, we will often encounter data that originate from multiple sources. These signals can interact with each other synchronously, but detecting such synchrony may prove challenging.
In this work we focus on investigating how deep neural network architectures can help us better understand synchrony in social contexts. We investigate …
