A Dynamic Inventory Optimization Method Applied To Printer Fleet Management, Surya Saripalli Sep 2011

A Dynamic Inventory Optimization Method Applied To Printer Fleet Management, Surya Saripalli

Theses

Current optimization methods for inventory management of toner cartridges for printer fleets typically focus on aggregate cartridge demand. However, with the development of printer technology, toner consumption algorithms are being developed which can accurately quantify the amount of toner that has been consumed over time, based on print job characteristics. This research introduces a dynamic inventory optimization approach for a fleet of printers over a rolling time horizon. Given, the consumption algorithm for the printer system, the cumulative toner consumed per cartridge per printer can be tracked. A forecasting method is developed which utilizes this toner consumption data for individual …

Use Of Fluorescent Micropsheres To Measure Coronary Flow Reserve In Rat Animal Model, Riddhi Harsh Shah Aug 2011

Use Of Fluorescent Micropsheres To Measure Coronary Flow Reserve In Rat Animal Model, Riddhi Harsh Shah

Theses

Heart attacks result from reduced or blocked blood flow through major coronary arteries, resulting in permanent damage to heart muscle. Coronary blood flow (CBF) is thus important to measure in experimental animal models of heart disease. A standard method to measure CBF uses tracer microspheres (Ø = 15 µm) injected into the left ventricle that flow through coronary arteries but cannot pass through capillaries and so become trapped in heart muscle. Previously, radioactive or colored microspheres have quantified the number of tracers trapped in the muscle. Fluorescent microspheres offer a more recent and more sensitive measurement mode. However, fluorescent microspheres …

‘En Pathos’, John Remo Aug 2011

‘En Pathos’, John Remo

Theses

`en pathos ` A Greek term that translates to ` in passion ` . The human figure is a timeless and classic subject that has always bestirred feelings of passion in the hearts of both artist and viewer. It can easily take a lifetime's artistic endeavors to master just a tiny aspect of the figure's potential. More important than the literal realm of the figure, there also lies a subjective realm, a place where my work is created and lives.....a place `between'. In trying to capture the essence of the human figure, each artistic medium offers its own unique visual …

Invertebrate Effects On Sediment Biogeochemistry And Microphytobenthos Following Estuarine Macroalgal Blooms, Katherine Premo

Theses

Eutrophication has led to the proliferation of devastating macroalgal blooms in shallow coastal estuaries. Processes at the sediment surface in shallow marine environments can ultimately affect nutrient cycling and the progress of eutrophication. Through bioturbation and grazing of microphytobenthos (MPB) infaunal invertebrates significantly alter redox dependent chemical and microbially-mediated transformations of nutrients and their subsequent release to or uptake from the overlying water column. This study used a series of experiments to investigate the effects of invertebrates on sediment biogeochemistry and nutrient cycling at early and late stages of eutrophication. Unique aspects of this study were the inclusions of multiple …

It asks the viewer to think beyond the ordinary use of these materials, to contemplate their qualities, the relationship between soft and strong, cold and warm, …

Intimate Immensity, Henrik Søderstrøm Jun 2011

Intimate Immensity, Henrik Søderstrøm

Theses

The small house that comprises my visual thesis, made of simple materials reclaimed from junk piles and old houses, was made as worship to the God who spoke the world into existence. This writing is a playful counterpart to my artwork. Water has an amazing ability to transpose itself fluidly across borders, from the atmosphere to the ground to the cells in your body. Its movement is defiant of divisions as it carries nutrients through layers of compost, from rotting biomass to new sprouts. My process of absorbing and using materials is inspired by this cycling. I am interested in …
