Prostate Cancer In Saudi Arabia In 2002, Hisham A. Mosli
Saudi Medical Journal
Epidemiologic studies revealed that there are variations in the geographic and ethnic distribution of cancer of the prostate (CaP) gland. This cancer varies dramatically between being very common in black American men, to rare in Asian and Chinese men. Genetic, familial predisposition and environmental factors in addition to methods of cancer detection and reporting contribute to these variations. Prostate cancer is the ninth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world yet it ranks first in the United States of America (USA) where resources allow large epidemiological studies. The health policy makers take major decisions such as mass population screening according …
Obstetric, Neonatal And Anesthetic Considerations For Preterm Labor And Delivery, Jonathan H. Skerman, Khalil E. Rajab
Obstetric, Neonatal And Anesthetic Considerations For Preterm Labor And Delivery, Jonathan H. Skerman, Khalil E. Rajab
Saudi Medical Journal
Preterm birth is a continuing obstetric problem that contributes significantly to the incidence of perinatal death and long-term handicap. In this context, various studies have shown preterm births account for between 69% and 83% of neonatal deaths. Despite this, the incidence of preterm birth has remained static for many years. One explanation for this is that the management of preterm labor has altered very little in the past 30 years. Strategies aimed at reducing the incidence of preterm birth include the identification of risk factors that increase the likelihood of preterm delivery. Treatment is then designed to target those risk …

Surgery Versus Pharmacotherapy Of Benign Thyroid Diseases, Nidal A. Younes, Abla M. Albsoul
Surgery Versus Pharmacotherapy Of Benign Thyroid Diseases, Nidal A. Younes, Abla M. Albsoul
Saudi Medical Journal
Surgical management of benign thyroid diseases (BTDs) has been a topic of interest and confusion for many years. Almost 80% of thyroidectomies at an average endocrine surgical unit are carried out for BTDs. Resistance to surgical intervention in BTDs has been based on the belief that increased complication rate is inherent in its use, this is despite the potential advantages in terms of confirming the benign nature of the lesion, controlling the disease, and relieving local symptoms of large neck mass. Benign thyroid diseases are more likely to occur in middle-aged women living in iodine deficient areas, or have a …
