The lesions consisted of nodules, which did not ulcerate. The histology showed abundance of macrophages filled with amastigotes L-D bodies. The patient was started on oral zinc sulphate 10 mg/kg in 3 divided doses daily. The condition showed gradual improvement. Repeated biopsies showed upgrading of the …

The Role Of The Putative Virulence Markers (Caga And Vaca ) Of Helicobacter Pylori In Peptic Ulcer Disease, Barik A. Salih
Saudi Medical Journal
Helicobacter pylori is genetically diverse and certain strains are more virulent and cause more severe diseases than others and such diversity is reflected on the clinical outcome. The cytotoxin-associated gene (cagA) and vacuolating cytotoxin (vacA) gene are 2 putative markers that were associated with peptic ulcer disease. The basis for the epidemiological association between the cagA and vacA genes is not known. In this review, the molecular characteristics of these markers, and its role in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer are discussed.

Significant increases in the prevalence of resistance to antibiotics have been observed in common pathogen of humans worldwide. The consequences of the appearance and spread of antimicrobial resistance have included increasing morbidity, mortality, and cost of health care. The increasing use of antimicrobial agents promotes the appearance and spread of bacterial resistance. Strict clinical guidelines on antibiotic prescribing and firm guidance on the optimum length of treatment is required. These strategies can be utilized as a part of a multidisciplinary approach to limit the appearance and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance, in addition to, surveillance of antibiotic resistance rates both locally …

Women who deliver by cesarean section CS differ significantly from those who deliver vaginally regarding their childbirth experience. Those who deliver by CS are often less satisfied with their experience, and with themselves. They experience a feeling of resentment towards the physician, profound disappointment at the treatment expectation and loss of the happy moment of natural birth leading to postpartum depression. Cesarean delivery carries considerable disadvantages in terms of pain and trauma of an abdominal operation and complications associated with it. However, the CS rate is constantly on the rise. Pathophysiology, diagnostic approach and the various modalities of management are analyzed. Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn is multi-factorial, which is reflected in the management as well. These babies are extremely labile to hypoxia and should be stabilized with minimum handling. One hundred percent oxygen and ventilation are the mainstay of treatment.
