OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the sero-response to measles component of the first measles, mumps and rubella MMR dose given at 12 months by measuring measles antibody before and one month after the vaccination. METHODS: A follow-up study where, 57 children at the age of 12 months were recruited randomly from the Primary Health Care Centers in Qassim, Saudi Arabia using a multistage sampling techniques. OBJECTIVES: To determine the applicability, acceptance, and compliance of the option of clean intermittent catheterization CIC when needed by patients in our society. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the files of all patients for whom CIC was conducted at King Khalid University Hospital and Security Forces Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between 1998, and 2006. We considered primary pathology, indication of CIC, age at CIC initiation, and who administered the CIC. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the trend in the nutritional status of Saudi children over a 10-year period. METHODS: The growth data collected between 1993-1994 were compared with those collected between 2004-2005 from all regions of the Kingdom. Both nutritional surveys had a similar design leading to representative samples of Saudi children determined by multistage probability sampling. Similar methodology of measurements of the weight and height were used. The data from the 1994 study, including the third, fifth, fiftieth, ninety-fifth, and the ninety-seventh percentiles, were plotted on the 2005 charts for the weight for age, height for age, weight for height. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the results of exercise tolerance test ETT of Saudi women and assess their exercise capacity. METHODS: A hospital based retrospective cohort analysis was carried out on all Saudi women referred to the Cardiology Department for ETT from February 2005 to June 2007. They underwent symptom limited treadmill test according to the standard Bruce protocol with exercise electrocardiogram monitoring. OBJECTIVE: To study anti-bovine milk xanthine oxidoreductase XOR antibody levels in synovial fluid as well as in serum of patients suffering from rheumatoid affections to assess a possible correlation between antibody titres and severity of disease. METHODS: Sera and synovial fluids were collected from volunteer donors at Setif University Hospital, Setif, Algeria from 2001-2007 with the consent of patients. OBJECTIVE: To assess the frequency of 2 different forms of hemochromatosis HFE gene mutations C282Y and H63D mutations in a normal population in comparison with type 2 diabetic patients. METHODS: This case control study was undertaken in Zanjan Diabetic Care Center, Zanjan, western Tehran, in 2005. Two hundred and two individuals were included in this study: 101 type 2 diabetes mellitus T2DM patients, and 101 age, and gender-matched controls. OBJECTIVE: To assess if the apolipoprotein Apo B/Apo A-I ratio in Saudi patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus T2DM is associated with metabolic syndrome MetS. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 250 patients with T2DM, above 40 years of age, at King Abdulaziz University Hospital Diabetes Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between January and December 2006. OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen HBsAg, and hepatitis C virus HCV antibodies in Sanaa, and other governorates of Yemen. METHODS: By systematic review with meta-analysis we collected the research performed in different governorates of Yemen during the period 2000-2005. This included the published papers peer reviewed, and the papers presented at Yemeni conferences. RESULTS: We identified 4 groups with separate prevalences. We found HBsAg to be 8% in healthy volunteers, 10.8% in blood donors, 12.3% in patients under dialysis, and 23% in patients with chronic liver diseases. OBJECTIVE: To describe and monitor the causes of neonatal and postneonatal deaths in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) over a 10-year-period. METHODS: This is a descriptive study of all infants who died in the NICU from January 1995 until December 2004 at Riyadh Military Hospital, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome in association with hyperprolactinemia is very rare. An 18-year-old, Saudi, single, virgin female was accompanied by her mother seeking medical advice regarding absent menses. She had normal breasts, normal axillary and pubic hair, normal vulva, urethra, and labial folds, however, the vagina was blind, approximately 2 cm length. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed normal appearing ovaries, a small uterus and small cervix and vagina. Investigations showed initial high serum prolactin of 1,517 mIU/L. Epidermoid cyst of the testis is a rare benign germ cell tumor, comprising 1-2% of all resected benign testicular masses. Approximately 300 cases have been reported to date. Unilateral involvement has often been reported in the English literature. However, bilateral occurrence is very rare and to the best of our knowledge, there are only 3 previous reports of bilateral testicular epidermoid cysts. The fact that they are completely benign makes them amenable to treatment by local excision, thereby saving patient from orchidectomy. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the results of using stapedectomy to treat tympanosclerosis fixation of the footplate. A retrospective review of tympanosclerosis of the oval window with stapes fixation, after undergoing surgery. Eight patients underwent stapedectomy for tympanosclerotic stapes. Postoperative post-op air-bone gap ABG closure to within 10 dB was achieved in 25% of cases. An ABG of less than 20 dB was obtained in 87.5% of cases. Bone metastasis of endometrial carcinoma is uncommon, and bilateral femur metastasis is extremely rare. A 48-year-old woman with Federation International of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IIB grade 2-3 endometrial adenocarcinoma underwent curative radical hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Twenty-two months after surgery, she suffered from progressive pain and then presented bilateral femur metastasis. She was administered the surgical excision of bony metastasis and adjuvant therapies including chemotherapy, palliative radiation, and hormone therapy.
