Prostate Cancer In The Arab Population: An Overview, Osman Z. Al-Abdin, Ibrahim Z. Al-Beeshi
Prostate Cancer In The Arab Population: An Overview, Osman Z. Al-Abdin, Ibrahim Z. Al-Beeshi
Saudi Medical Journal
This review evaluated prostate cancer studies from around the world and investigated the causes of differences among them. Prostate cancer incidence and mortality rates showed significant discrepancies between countries and ethnicities. In North America as well as in other western countries, the most common cancer was found to be prostate cancer; however, it appears to be not as prevalent among men in the Middle East and North Africa. Statistics show that screening of prostate-specific antigen levels should be applied depending on ethnicity and age. Other environmental aspects such as dietary and androgenic factors are believed to have caused these differences.

Atypical Posterior Scleritis Mimicking Choroidal Melanoma, Heba M. Alsharif, Saad A. Al-Dahmash
Saudi Medical Journal
We report a case of atypical posterior scleritis mimicking amelanotic choroidal melanoma. A 30-year-old healthy Filipino man, with a history of painless subacute loss of vision in his left eye over 5 months, was referred to our institute for further workup and management. Anterior segment examination yielded unremarkable results, with injected conjunctiva and quiet episcleral blood vessels, while fundus examination revealed non-pigmented nasal choroidal mass, with significant subretinal fluid resembling amelanotic choroidal melanoma. Right eye examination yielded unremarkable results. The patient was diagnosed with atypical posterior scleritis, and treated with …

Evidence Based Synthesis For Prevention Of Noninvasive Ventilation Related Facial Pressure Ulcers, Jaber S. Alqahtani, Mohammed D. Alahmari
Saudi Medical Journal
The last 2 decades have seen a growing trend towards the use of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) therapy in the management of many conditions that cause acute respiratory failure. However, there is a serious side effect that results in using these devices; the development of facial skin pressure damage, specifically pressure ulcers. This skin damage has a considerable effect on patients’ quality of life, treatment adherence and patients’ comfort in addition to the therapy challenges of wound care. The aim of this clinical review is to discuss the different characteristics of NIV interfaces and to provide evidence based recommendations to facilitate …
