Objectives: To assess the usefulness of periapical dental radiograph as a screening tool aimed at early signs of osteoporosis in postmenopausal periodontal patients and root surface evaluation using spectrochemical analysis. Methods: This study was conducted at the Department of Periodontics, Riyadh Elm University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for 12 months between December 2016 and November 2017. Two groups consisted healthy postmenopausal women having chronic periodontitis and postmenopausal women having chronic periodontitis with osteoporosis. Objectives: To determine the average health-related quality of life (HRQOL) score levels and their determinants in patients with predialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted for relevant observational studies published between April 2007 and April 2017 in MEDLINE, EBSCOhost, and CINAHL databases. Results: Thirteen observational studies with a total sample of 8635 subjects comprising 53.3% male with an aggregate mean age of 59.5 (SD 14.9) years were included in this review. Intra-parenchymal sialolithiasis and subsequent fibrosis of the submandibular salivary glands is a rare disorder. The resulting swelling, pain, and infection derives affected patients to seek treatment. We present the case of an 85-years-old Saudi male patient who suffered from repeated swelling and infection in the left submandibular region which was misdiagnosed and treated for over 60 years as dental infection, infected skin sebaceous gland or lipoma. The presented case represents the largest intra-glandular submandibular stone with the longest duration ever reported in the medical literature.

Objectives: To evaluated Fetuin-A levels of patients admitted in the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of sepsis. Methods: This study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Hospital, Çanakkal, Turkey, between February 2015 and October 2015. Objectives: To detect resistance genes to fluoroquinolones and β-lactams in Salmonella strains from a Saudi hospital. Methods: From October 2015 to December 2016, a total of 149 Salmonella strains were collected from stool specimens from patients admitted to King Fahad Hospital of the University, AlKhobar, Saudi Arabia using CHROMagar Salmonella . Objectives: To explore beliefs, attitudes, and barriers associated with uptake of the seasonal influenza vaccine among visitors to primary healthcare clinics. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, self-administered questionnaire-based study of 300 people visiting Family Medicine Centers, King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between May 2017 and October 2017. Results: Most respondents reported that they never get vaccinated (63.3%), but most intend to get the vaccination in future. Only 7.7% of respondents had ever experienced side-effects from the influenza vaccine. Objectives: To analyze the relationship between vertebral fracture, degree of kyphosis, and BMD in women living in nursing homes. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Hitit University Hospital, Corum, Turkey, between January 2014 and January 2015. Of the 126 female patients who participated in the study, 48 lived in nursing homes (nursing-home-group [NHG]), 78 lived in non-nursing home settings (control-group [CG]). Methods: This is a prospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary university hospital in Central Saudi Arabia. All neonates born to mothers with pregnancy associated diabetes between July 2014 and June 2015 were recruited for the purpose of this study. Emotional Intelligence Of Saudi Children In The Basic Education Program, Manal F. Alharbi

Objectives: To explores emotional intelligence (EI) among Saudi children in basic education programs. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was utilized. A convenience sample of students (n=684) from 10 schools in Saudi Arabia completed the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory-Youth Version. Correlation and regression analyses were conducted. Results: Most students (mean 83.2) showed poor emotional and social skills (p<90 EI). Region, income, failing grades, father’s educational level, and working status correlated positively (p<0.05) with EI. Living with parents, mother’s educational level, grade point average, and a lack of health problems were significant predictors of EI. Conclusions: Basic education teachers and families face challenges in incorporating strategies to enhance children’s emotional and social functioning.

Post-adenotonsillectomy pulmonary edema (pATPE) is a life-threatening condition that necessitates immediate clinical intervention. The early diagnosis and detection of the signs of this condition is vital to its treatment and patient outcome. The purpose of this review article is to present epidemiological data on the prevalence of pATPE, and address the mechanisms of development, types, etiology, pathophysiology, and management of pATPE. In order to minimize postoperative intensive care unit admission rates of pATPE, utilization of preoperative clinical assessment, operative/postoperative monitoring tools, and procedural precautions are discussed.

Objectives: To identify the impact of Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) gene polymorphisms on breast cancer patients in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Methods: It is a case control study in which blood samples of participants from Medical Reference Clinics and King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia have been taken between 2014 and 2016. This study recruited 128 participants (50% control, 50% patients) and used Tetra-Primer amplification-refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction method for the detection of missense SNP (rs11556770). Objectives: To elucidate the clinico-laboratory characteristics associated with pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus (pSLE) patients with higher Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) score in a retrospective cohort of pSLE patients. Methods: A retrospective study involving 32 pSLE patients was conducted at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, Malaysia between 2006 and 2017. Results: Within the group of 32 pSLE patients, 23 were girls and 9 were boys (3:1 ratio). The most common symptom was renal disorder (n=21; 65.6%) followed by malar rash (n=9; 28.1%), oral ulcers (n=7; 21.9%), prolonged fever (n=5; 15.6%) and arthritis (n=4; 12.5%). Objectives: To understand the knowledge, attitude, and practice of healthcare practitioners in Saudi Arabia, with regard to vitamin D supplementation. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among healthcare practitioners in the Tabuk region of Saudi Arabia between January 2015 and December 2016. A questionnaire assessing knowledge, attitude and practice with regard to prevention of vitamin D deficiency was distributed to 100 healthcare practitioners. Objectives: To show the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 (sVEGFR-1) in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and to show the associations with clinical findings such as demographic features, laboratory findings, comorbidities, and medications.
