An Integrated Tracking Technique For Underwater Navigation Using Acoustic And Imu Measurements, Mainul Islam Chowdhury, Quoc Viet Phung, Iftekhar Ahmed, Daryoush Habibi

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Accurate navigation is essential for underwater vehicles like AUVs, which often operate in deep or remote areas. However, complex ocean dynamics, cumulative inertial-measurement unit (IMU) drift, and diverse noise sources often result in erratic and unreliable position estimates. To overcome these challenges, we proposed a method that combines underwater acoustic signals with onboard motion sensor data to improve the underwater position tracking system. The proposed system uses a long baseline (LBL) acoustic array of surface buoys to capture the Time-difference-of-Arrival (TDoA) of a multi-pulse beacon. We extract arrival times using a superimposed-envelope-spectrum (SES) detector, which exploits the beacon’s periodic structure …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Human-driven habitat fragmentation is known to disrupt gene flow in a wide range of species. However, its consequences for endemic plant species that depend on specialised invertebrate pollinators remain poorly understood. Although honeybees are capable of travelling considerable distances while foraging, many small-bodied native bee species lack the capacity to expand their foraging ranges or cross anthropogenic barriers, rendering habitat fragmentation the most significant threat to these ecological interactions. In many long-lived plants, the time since fragmentation has not been long enough for detectable changes in the genetic composition of standing populations. Changes in dispersal patterns observed in seedlings may …

Length And Framing Of Anti-Junk Food Ads Impact Inclinations To Consume Junk Food Among Normal Weight, Overweight, And Adults With Obesity, Ross C. Hollett, Brennen Mills, Stephanie L. Godrich, Julia Butt, Gina S.A. Trapp

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Unrestricted junk food advertising increases the risk of short-term junk food consumption among viewers. We aimed to estimate the impact of junk food and anti-junk food advertisements differing in length and framing on junk food consumption inclinations. Methods: Adult participants (N = 505) were exposed to a randomly selected junk food advertisement or anti-junk food advertisement and reported their immediate craving and consumption intentions. These responses were separately analysed for two groups based on Body Mass Index (BMI): participants classified as within the normal range (18.5–25), and a combined group with BMI values indicating either overweight (25+) or obesity …

Dynamic Knowledge Practices In Tourism Village Development: An Activity Theory Perspective, Xianyang Hu, Jie Chen, Songshan (Sam) Huang

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This study investigates why tourism village development models often fail to replicate success despite cultural and geographic similarities. Using activity theory and knowledge management concepts, we analyze two adjacent Chinese villages to trace explicit knowledge flow and examine disrupted tacit and indigenous knowledge practices. Findings show that while surface-level knowledge transfer occurs, contradictions within activity system elements, especially the marginalization of indigenous knowledge and community capacity, hinder effective knowledge application. Knowledge flow is inherently nonlinear and deeply context-dependent. We develop a comparative activity system model that highlights how success hinges less on knowledge transfer and more on the integration of …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Real-world evidence for wearable noninvasive glucose monitoring (NIGM) remains limited. To evaluate the functional equivalence of a wearable NIGM device and explore its utility for T2DM and prediabetes screening. In this multicenter study, 12-h daytime glucose profiles obtained by a flexible reverse iontophoresis-based electrochemical sensor were compared with capillary glucose using functional equivalence. Subgroup analyses were conducted. Screening models of T2DM and prediabetes were developed using elastic net and Logistic regression. A total of 135 participants (mean age 35.3 years; 60.0% female) were included, and no serious device-related adverse events were reported. Compared to the capillary measurements, functional equivalence was …

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to characterize the clinical features, electrophysiology, and variant spectrum in ABCA4- and PRPH2-retinopathies and to identify novel electrodiagnostic biomarkers to differentiate between these two genotypes. Methods. We conducted an international multicenter case-control study of patients with a clinical and genetic diagnosis of ABCA4- or PRPH2-retinopathy. Age at symptom onset, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), electroretinography (ERG) components, and fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging were compared. Subgroup exploratory analysis was performed on those patients with a phenotype similar to central areolar choroidal dystrophy (“CACD-like”), those with flecks distributed throughout the posterior pole (“fleck-like”) and a healthy …
