Ranking The Risk Of Co2 Emissions From Seagrass Soil Carbon Stocks Under Global Change Threats, Martin Dahl, Kathryn Mcmahon, Paul S. Lavery, Serena H. Hamilton, Catherine E. Lovelock, Oscar Serrano
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Seagrass meadows are natural carbon storage hotspots at risk from global change threats, and their loss can result in the remineralization of soil carbon stocks and CO2 emissions fueling climate change. Here we used expert elicitation and empirical evidence to assess the risk of CO2 emissions from seagrass soils caused by multiple human-induced, biological and climate change threats. Judgments from 41 experts were synthesized into a seagrass CO2 emission risk score based on vulnerability factors (i.e., spatial scale, frequency, magnitude, resistance and recovery) to seagrass soil organic carbon stocks. Experts perceived that climate change threats (e.g., gradual ocean warming and …

Corrosion Behavior And Mechanism Of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Produced Cocrw In An Acidic Nacl Solution, P. Qin, L. Y. Chen, Y. J. Liu, C. H. Zhao, Hongqi Sun, Laichang Zhang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The corrosion behavior and mechanism of the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) produced CoCrW were investigated in 0.9 wt% NaCl solution with a pH of 2. The corrosion resistance of the alloy increases after 28 days of immersion because of the formed oxide film, which results in the increased corrosion potential and the decreased passivation current density on the potentiodynamic polarization test. The corrosion mechanism of the L-PBF-produced CoCrW could be explained by the melt pool formed from the laser melting process, that the melt pools were “shrinking” by the formation and dissolution of the oxide film.

Background:
Preterm birth is the leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality and is associated with adverse developmental and long-term health outcomes, including several cardiometabolic risk factors and outcomes. However, evidence about the association of preterm birth with later body size derives mainly from studies using birth weight as a proxy of prematurity rather than an actual length of gestation. We investigated the association of gestational age (GA) at birth with body size from infancy through adolescence.
Methods and Findings:
We conducted a two-stage individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis using data from 253,810 mother-child dyads from 16 general population-based cohort …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The scientific literature, media, international summits, and policy forums highlighted enough the people who either move or are willing to move because of environmental reasons. Still, the voluntary environmental non-migrants (ENM), who are assumed to have strong resilience and coping capacity, are inordinately overlooked. The importance of addressing these ENMs has increasingly been emphasised. First, the paper explains the characteristics of ENM, outlining the key distinction between voluntary and forced non-migrants. Second, it emphasises the need to protect populations affected by environmental change and disaster, specifically highlighting oft-neglected ENM policy gaps. Thus, it examines to what extent ENM is addressed …

Corrosion Behavior And Mechanisms Of The Heat-Treated Ti5cu Produced By Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Xin Wang, Peng Qin, L. Y. Chen, Hongqi Sun, Laichang Zhang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This work investigated the corrosion behavior of laser powder bed fusion produced (LPBFed) Ti5Cu and its heat-treated counterparts at 740 and 900 °C (named as HT-740 and HT-900 respectively) in Hank’s solution. The results indicated that the presence of acicular a'-Ti phase in LPBFed Ti5Cu was beneficial to corrosion, but the corrosion resistance of HT-740 and HT-900 were increased owing to the dual-phase microstructure (a'/a-Ti + Ti2Cu) or the increased content of Ti2Cu phase in the microstructure. The Ti2Cu phase could provide an ‘envelope’ protection to the a'/a-Ti phase and slow down the micro-galvanic reaction between a'/a-Ti phase and Ti2Cu …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The presence of bypass diodes in photovoltaic (PV) arrays can mitigate the negative effects of partial shading conditions (PSCs), which can cause multiple peak characteristics at the output. However, conventional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods can develop errors and detect the local maximum power point (LMPP) instead of the global maximum power point (GMPP) under certain circumstances. To address this issue, several artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods have been proposed, but they result in complicated and unreliable methodologies. This study introduces the driving training-based optimization (DTBO) method, which aims to address the partial shading (PS) problem quickly and reliably in …

Cognitive behavioural therapy is effective in the treatment of postnatal anxiety; however, there are many barriers to accessing this treatment. This study examined the feasibility and acceptability of transdiagnostic cognitive behavioural therapy delivered remotely via Internet videoconferencing. Three women (Mage = 28.33 years; SD = 4.04) with a postnatal anxiety-related disorder were treated using the videoconference-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy. The treatment was delivered once per week over a 5-week period. All participants met criteria for clinically significant change in anxiety symptoms at post-treatment, …
Feasibility Meets Implementation Science: Narrowing The Research-To-Practice Gap For Exercise Activity In Multiple Sclerosis, James Smith, Onno Van Der Groen, Yvonne Learmonth
Feasibility Meets Implementation Science: Narrowing The Research-To-Practice Gap For Exercise Activity In Multiple Sclerosis, James Smith, Onno Van Der Groen, Yvonne Learmonth
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Background: There is a need to identify why multiple sclerosis exercise research is not translating into real-world participation. To lay the foundations of strong clinical research, considering the translational element of implementation science at the feasibility phase of a trial is vital. Methods: Document analysis was used to examine document sources on exercise activity interventions designed for people living with multiple sclerosis. Document sources focused on multiple sclerosis research that incorporated exercise prescription elements and behaviour change and were feasibility studies incorporating aspects of implementation science. Results: Implementation science should come much earlier than the efficacy or effectiveness research pipeline. …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Despite there being an increasing number of applied flow studies across scientific disciplines, there exists no consistent or broadly applicable intervention to promote flow experiences. This study provides a detailed account of a new educational flow training program developed following recent advancements in the flow literature that have provided a more parsimonious understanding of flow experiences and antecedents. Guided by CONSORT guidelines for feasibility trials, we conducted a single-group, non-randomized feasibility trial of an educational flow training program (N = 26). We assessed participant retention, perceptions about and experiences of the program, perceptions about the flow education training, and preliminary …

Three-dimensional (3D) food printing is a rapidly emerging technology offering unprecedented potential for customised food design and personalised nutrition. Here, we evaluate the technological advances in extrusion-based 3D food printing and its possibilities to promote healthy and sustainable eating. We consider the challenges in implementing the technology in real-world applications. We propose viable applications for 3D food printing in health care, health promotion and food waste upcycling. Finally, we outline future work on 3D food printing in food safety, acceptability and economics, ethics and regulations. . .
