The current era is called the Space Age -- a time of phenomenal scientific progress. Accordingly, improvements in science programs at all levels of education are being urged and promoted on all sides. Federal grants are offered to motivate science teachers to improve their training; federal funds are available to aid school systems in the purchase of scientific equipment; and capable high-school and college students are urged to choose careers in the sciences.

In past years, a substantial amount of research has centered on the levels of certain blood chemical constituents in birds, particularly in chickens and pigeons. However, little has been recorded concerning the blood chemical constituents of the mallard duck, Anas platyrhynshos. Likewise, the effects of hormones on its blood chemistry, in conjunction with its reproductive system, have been almost totally unexplored. The concept of the air mass was developed by a group of Norwegian meteorologists during World War I. An air mass, they said, was a body of air which was horizontally homogeneous with respect to temperature and humidity. Sexual Receptivity And Fertility Of Androgen Induced Persistent Estrous Rats, Norman Donald Diebel

The effect of neonatally administered testosterone propionate (TP) on sexual receptivity and fertility was studied. Dosages of 25 μg and ten μg were used and were administered s.c. in peanut oil on the fifth day of life. Vaginal smears of the animals receiving 25 μg were begun at the age of 61 days and indicated that these animals exhibited modified estrous cycles. By 90 days of age, most of the animals in both dosage groups were in constant vaginal estrus. These prolonged periods of vaginal estrus were often interrupted only by mating.

The problem in this investigation is to determine the characteristics of lower status Negro mothers and their families and to determine whether specific characteristics are associated with the utilization or acceptance of traditional or developmental child rearing attitudes. More specifically, this investigation will attempt to determine what cognate relationships prevail in the various segments of lower status Negro mothers with respect to their exhibiting traditional or developmental child rearing attitudes and their relative social status position, family composition, and mother's social contact frequency.

From July 1962 until June 1965 the investigator was employed as a Personnel Methods Technician for the Michigan Employment Security Commission in Muskegon, Michigan. In this capacity he wrote the initial proposals for Muskegon's MDTA programs during this period. He also implemented the selection of trainees and the placement of graduates for each of twenty MDTA programs. Parameters investigated during the study were temperature, catalyst volume, and catalyst activated by use or different promoters. Two different vanadium pentoxide catalysts were used. One was a new catalyst(Catalyst I) supported on a silica base and diluted with potassium sulfate. The other catalyst(Catalyst II) was similar to the first one except that it had been used in a commercial fixed bed reactor operated by the Monsanto Company, St. Louis, Missouri, using naphthalene as a reed material. "The purpose of this investigation was to study the hysteresis effect, the effect of micro-roughness and orientation of the heat-transfer surface, and the effect of infra-red-radiation-treated heat-transfer surfaces on the nucleate-boiling curve.

It has been observed that there exists no hysteresis effect for water boiling from a cylindrical copper surface in the nucleate-boiling region over the range studied. The nucleate-boiling curve has been found to be independent of micro-roughness and orientation of the heat-transfer surface. There was no detectable change in the nucleate-boiling characteristics of the heat-transfer surface when the surface was treated with infra-red radiation"--Abstract, page ii.

"The magnetic hyperfine structure of the Fe⁵⁷ nuclei in bismuth ferrate was investigated using the Mössbauer effect. A Mössbauer effect spectrometer was built with consideration given to the elimination of vibration and the optimizing of the source, absorber, and detector geometries to produce the largest fractional Mössbauer effect per fractional standard deviation.
