Geology, Mineralogy, And Fluid Inclusion Geothermometry Of The El Paso Gold Mine, Cripple Creek, Colorado, Charles Albon Lane
Geology, Mineralogy, And Fluid Inclusion Geothermometry Of The El Paso Gold Mine, Cripple Creek, Colorado, Charles Albon Lane
Masters Theses
"The Cripple Creek district consists of a deeply- eroded, breccia-filled volcanic subsidence basin. Subsidence of the basin occurred along fissures formed by fracturing during the Laramide orogeny. The material filling the crater probably developed first as fissure flows. Erosion of the volcanics formed the material now filling the basin. Volcanic activity was accompanied by intrusion of numerous sills, dikes, and stocks of several different rock types into the breccia and surrounding granite, punctuated by occasional explosive activity. The majority of the mines in the district lie within the volcanic center; however, a few important ones, most notably the El Paso …

Part I. Thermodynamic Acidities Of Substituted Phenylacetylenes. Part Ii. Mercury Accumulation In Trout Of Southern Missouri, Eric T. Lloyd
Masters Theses
"PART I: THERMODYNAMIC ACIDITIES OF SUBSTITUTED PHENYLACETYLENES The thermodynamic acidities (pKa) of phenylacetylene and several para substituted phenylacetylenes in methanol were determined at 25ºC. These acidity constants were determined using a quenching technique which involves converting the phenylacetylenic anion, present at equilibrium as sodium phenylacetylide, to the tritium labelled carbon acid. By liquid scintillation counting techniques, the concentration of the anion was determined and the pKa of the phenylacetylene compound calculated. The resulting pKa's are: p-nitrophenylacetylene, 17.98, p-bromophenylacetylene, 18.10, p-fluorophenylacetylene, 18.14, phenylacetylene, 18.50, and p-methylphenylacetylene, 18.60. The effect of a substituent in the para position on the relative acidities is …

Areal Geology, Brecciation, And Mineralization In The Trout Creek Area, Park And Chaffee Counties, Colorado, Barry Plin Mercer
Masters Theses
"The principle purpose of this thesis research has been to map rock types in an area selected for its occurrence of lead-zinc mineralization, and particularly to examine the character and origin of breccias present in the Leadville Limestone. The thesis area is located in Colorado along the east flank of the southernmost Mosquito Range, bounded by Buffalo Peaks Volcanic field on the north and Trout Creek on the south. Units mapped include the Sawatch Quartzite (Cambrian), Manitou Limestone (lower Ordovician), Harding Sandstone (middle Ordovician), Fremont Limestone (upper Ordovician), Parting Quartzite (Devonian), Dyer Dolomite (Devonian), and Leadville Limestone (Mississippian). The Leadville …

Galena, Illinois During The Lead Mine Era, Gary Henry
Galena, Illinois During The Lead Mine Era, Gary Henry
Masters Theses
The purpose of this work is to present a history of Galena, Illinois, from 1826 to 1860. It was during this time span that Galena was the major trading center for the upper Mississippi Valley.
The study is divided into five chapters, but the main body consists of chapters II, III, and IV. Chapter II deals with federal and local government affairs at the Galena lead fields. The first part of the chapter examines the early policy of direct federal control which was effective for only a short time. Litigation over the rights of miners and smelters as opposed to …

The Effect Of Social Rank Of Male Swordtails (Xiphophorus Helleri) On Sexual Behavior, Janet N. Marum
The Effect Of Social Rank Of Male Swordtails (Xiphophorus Helleri) On Sexual Behavior, Janet N. Marum
Masters Theses
The relationship between social rank and sexual behavior of the male swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri) was studied. Initially three tanks were established with three males and two females in each. Social rank, aggressive and sexual levels were recorded by observation of the interactions which occurred in the tanks. A second series of observations were made with the fish regrouped according to their initial rank, that is, dominant males grouped together, middle ranking males together and the lowest ranking males together. Aggressive and sexual levels were the highest for the highest ranking males in all tanks and in both trials, …

The Establishment Of A Pilot Elementary Career Education Program In Community Unit #2, Robinson, Illinois, Dale E. Boyd
The Establishment Of A Pilot Elementary Career Education Program In Community Unit #2, Robinson, Illinois, Dale E. Boyd
Masters Theses
The purpose of this field study is to examine the establishment of a pilot elementary career education program in Community Unit #2, Robinson, Illinois.
It is the belief of this writer that elementary career education is an attempt to bring a stronger program to the elementary schools.
This study is not a review of a complete elementary career education program but rather the guidelines used in establishing a pilot program. It is hoped that persons interested in establishing a career education program will use this field study as a reference for their own project.

Fibers And Fabrics In Stuffed Sculpture, Carol Ann Haskell Kessler
Fibers And Fabrics In Stuffed Sculpture, Carol Ann Haskell Kessler
Masters Theses
This thesis is a report of my experiences with fibers and fabrics in producing sculptural forms. They begin with my use of fibers in unstuffed sculpture and proceed to the use of stuffing materials in many varieties. To give an historical perspective, included are a number of related works, both primitive and recent. For the purpose of critical analysis, each sculptural form is pictorially presented and discussed.

Romanticism And Evangelical Christianity In William Cowper's The Task, Carol V. Johnson
Romanticism And Evangelical Christianity In William Cowper's The Task, Carol V. Johnson
Masters Theses
In The Task, dated 1785, William Cowper clearly anticipates certain major themes in early nineteenth-century British Romantic poetry. In his individual presentation of the central Romantic themes of this "transitional" work, however, Cowper differs significantly from the major Romantic poets whose work his own most resembles. This is largely due to the strain of Evangelical Christianity that pervades the poem, as the result of his contact with the Evangelical Revival that swept England during the second half of the eighteenth century. The orthodox Christian doctrine and morality that underlie the Romantic themes in The Task, together with the …
