"Every year the various engineering and industrial magazines print curves showing the rise and fall of metal stocks throughout the year. to the ordinary reader, these curves are seldom intelligible; he sees the ups and downs; he knows that the prices have risen and fallen; but he rarely knows what causes these changes -- and the curves themselves never tell. "During the spring of 1919 we undertook to prepare tri-methyl-amine for the Research Department of the Eastman Kodak Company in the Industrial Chemistry Laboratory of the Missouri School of Minds. According to V. Merz and K. Gasiorowski the three methyl amines were qualitatively proven to be present in the reaction products obtained by heating methyl alcohol, ammonia and zinc chloride to 220°C. in a bomb for fourteen hours. As these raw materials are inexpensive we attempted to prepare the tri-methyl-amine by this reaction employing for the purpose a small industrial autoclave. "The formation of sulphonamide derivatives is often of distinct importance. These substances are easily purified and give sharp mepting points which make them of value for identification phases of research work. Also they are of value commercially as in the production of saccharin and other similar compounds. The purpose of this investigation is to secure information on the comparative production and yield of sulphonamides, and intermediate products, formed from their respective ring hydrocarbons, as benzene and toluene. careful melting point are taken on purified products and solubility curves developed for different solvents. "In the graphical analyses of Stresses in Framed Structures, we study, by means of diagrams, the stability or equilibrium of structures and the relation between the external forces and the stresses created in the members of the frame. The principle involved is that we may represent any force both as to direction and intensity by a straight line, by considering the direction of the line to be identical with that of the force and adjusting its length according to any arbitrary unit adopted for the forces under consideration. "Very few of the interesting points bearing upon the formation of iron di-sulphide will be treated in this paper. The laboratory tests made are considered to have been sufficiently thorough to substantiate the ideas set forth so that exhaustive tests were not necessary. While the field evidence was collected largely in the Joplin district of Missouri, the conclusions are sufficiently generalized to be applicable to any district in which pyrite and marcasite have been derived from cold solutions"--page 2.

"The plant in question was designed by the writer, to treat the immense tailings dumps of the Sacramento Gold Mining company at Mercur, Utah, consisting of one-half million tons of old cyanide tailings. The ore is porous and friable, causing much slime, which is impermeable to cyanide solution, by the old leaching system.
