Amine Flotation Of Feldspar From Magnetite Concentrate., Gary William Hudiburgh Jr. Jan 1974

Amine Flotation Of Feldspar From Magnetite Concentrate., Gary William Hudiburgh Jr.

Masters Theses

"The gangue in some magnetite ore bodies contains feldspar; the alkali content of the feldspar reduces the usefulness of these iron ores. One method of decreasing the feldspar content in magnetite concentrate is froth flotation.

The amine flotation of feldspar from magnetite concentrate was investigated using zeta potential measurements, Hallimond tube flotation tests and laboratory-scale flotation tests. The zeta potential of various feldspars (microcline, albite, anorthite, oligoclase and anorthoclase) were determined as a function of pH; the point of zero charge ranged from pH 1.4 to 2.5. Hallimond tube flotation tests using two amine reagents were conducted on the feldspars. …

Effect Of Sweeping Sinusoidal Excitation On Nonlinear Dynamic Systems., Md. Mosharraf Hossain Jan 1974

Effect Of Sweeping Sinusoidal Excitation On Nonlinear Dynamic Systems., Md. Mosharraf Hossain

Masters Theses

"The response of viscous damped, cubic spring systems to excitations having exponentially varying frequency cannot be written in a closed form. This report summarizes a numerical investigation of hardening and softening cubic systems influenced by these excitations and provides information concerning the effects of varying viscous damping, system nonlinearity, and excitation sweep rate on system behavior near resonance. Results are reported in terms of maximum response attained during sweeping and the frequency at which maximum response occurs.

It has been found that if hardening cubic systems are subjected to sweeping excitations wherein the frequency sweeps down through resonance, the maximum …

Esca Characterization Of Flotation Products From A Lead-Zinc-Copper Concentrator On The New Lead Belt Of Southeast Missouri., Kevin Leroy Purdy Jan 1974

Esca Characterization Of Flotation Products From A Lead-Zinc-Copper Concentrator On The New Lead Belt Of Southeast Missouri., Kevin Leroy Purdy

Masters Theses

"Electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) was used to determine the surface characteristics of products from an operating Pb-Zn-Cu concentrator on the New Lead Belt of southeast Missouri and pure galena and sphalerite samples treated with flotation reagents in concentrations similar to those used in the mills. The emphasis was on the action of surface modifiers such as Na2Cr2O7, starch, SO2, CuSO4 and NaCN in sphalerite flotation and in the galena-chalcopyrite separation. The objective of the investigation was to monitor the relative oxidation states of the mineral and reagent constituents and correlate these …

An Algorithm For Minimizing The Riding Time Of Students On School Buses., Dennis Ray Morgan Jan 1974

An Algorithm For Minimizing The Riding Time Of Students On School Buses., Dennis Ray Morgan

Masters Theses

"This thesis presents an algorithm which selects from a given set of stops a subset of stops corresponding to a given bus which minimize the riding time of students in going to and from school. The time required in picking up students at their stops and delivering them to school is analyzed. An example is given which illustrates the formulation of a problem and the results obtained from the solution. Finally, the program which was used in the solution of the problem is given along with its implementation"-- Abstract, p. ii

Post Irradiation Changes Of The Elastic Modulus Of Aluminum, Dale A. Powers Jan 1974

Post Irradiation Changes Of The Elastic Modulus Of Aluminum, Dale A. Powers

Masters Theses

"Aluminum samples of 99.99% and 99.999% purity were irradiated to neutron fluences of 3·8·1018 nvt and 1.4·1019 nvt (E greater than 0.1 Mev) at one-third of the melting temperature. The change in Young's modulus of elasticity after isothermal annealing in the temperature range of 110⁰C to 130⁰C was measured. After 2.5 hours of annealing, the modulus reached a steady state value which was decreased by 0.25% ± 0.17% from the unannealed value. Electron microscopy suggests the hardening mechanisms were dispersion hardening by silicon precipitates and void hardening"--Abstract, page ii.

Combined Forced And Free Convection On A Vertical Cylinder And Flat Plate, Aleksandros Mucoglu Jan 1974

Combined Forced And Free Convection On A Vertical Cylinder And Flat Plate, Aleksandros Mucoglu

Masters Theses

"In the study of fluid flow over heated surfaces, it is customary to neglect the effects of buoyancy force when the flow is horizontal. However, such a practice is not justified when the forced flow is along an inclined or a vertical surface, because under these conditions the buoyancy force modifies considerably the flow field and hence the heat transfer rate from the surface. Such a flow is termed combined forced and free convective flow.

The present study is concerned with the effects of buoyancy force on forced convection along an isothermal vertical cylinder and a flat plate. This type …

Local Buckling Of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members Having Initially Curved Compression Elements, William M. Mckinney Jan 1974

Local Buckling Of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members Having Initially Curved Compression Elements, William M. Mckinney

Masters Theses

"A comprehensive investigation of the effect of initial deviation from flatness on buckling stress and post-buckling strength of compression elements in structural plate members is presented. The study of stiffened and unstiffened elements expands the scope of elastic stability for initially curved plates. Finite element techniques were utilized for the study of unstiffened elements"--Abstract, page ii.

A Systems Approach To Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Training Programs, Jesse Michael Haverstick Jan 1974

A Systems Approach To Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Training Programs, Jesse Michael Haverstick

Masters Theses

"The evaluation of the effectiveness of training programs has long been recognized as a necessity in determining the allocation of investment. However, much of industry, today, still does not use an easily administered, systematic, and reliable method for determining training program effectiveness for their salaried (managerial) personnel. It is easily seen that determining training program effectiveness is not a one-shot, one-time event, but a continual process, whose aim, ultimately, is increased productivity. For the effectiveness of a training program to be adequately monitored, these four areas should be measured: (1) trainee attitude, (2) learning, (3) behavior change, and (4) productivity …

Metal Salt Catalyzed Carbenoids The Catalysts In Trialkyl Phosphite Copper (I) Complex Catalyzed Decomposition Of Diazo Compounds, Nguyen Van Thinh Jan 1974

Metal Salt Catalyzed Carbenoids The Catalysts In Trialkyl Phosphite Copper (I) Complex Catalyzed Decomposition Of Diazo Compounds, Nguyen Van Thinh

Masters Theses

"Partial rate data, asymmetric induction studies, interrupted experiments and additives studies indicate that copper(I) salt-phosphite complexes are destroyed during the course of reactions with dimethyl diazomalonate (1) and ethyl diazoacetate (2). All evidence is consistent with the copper(I) being oxidized to copper(II) and copper(0) being oxidized by impurities in the olefin which most probably are hydroperoxides.

Several new copper(I) salt-phosphite complexes were prepared and examined but none proved as effective for decomposing (1) as copper(II) bis acetylacetonate.

The utility of the copper (I) chloride-trimethyl phosphite complex for decomposing (1) is a function of the means of preparation. The three general …

Synthesis Of Fused Silica By Flame Hydrolysis, James Edward Rourke Jan 1974

Synthesis Of Fused Silica By Flame Hydrolysis, James Edward Rourke

Masters Theses

"Apparatus to synthesize and dope high purity, optical quality fused silica by flame hydrolysis was constructed. Fused silica samples containing 0, <35, 35 and 90 ppm niobium were synthesized and characterized by the following properties: purity, refractive index, radiation damage resistance, and transmission spectra. The properties of the undoped sample were shown to be comparable to those of available commercial fused silica. Deviations in the properties of the doped samples from those of the undoped samples were explained in terms of the niobium content"--Abstract, page ii.
