"The application of preaeration of sewage on the operation and design of waste stabilization lagoons was investigated and its effect on the permissible BOD loadings was determined to provide original and basic information of value to the sewage treatment field.

The investigation was conducted using two 15 gallon aquariums, one of which was designated as the Control Lagoon and the other as the Test Lagoon. These experimental lagoons were subjected to 12 hour diurnal light and dark cycles, provided by means of fluorescent light fixtures.

Raw sewage and aerated raw sewage were fed daily to the Control and Test Lagoons, …

"The red short phenomenon present in steel, was studied by means of torsion tests at temperatures between 800 and 1200⁰C. Cold drawn bars of different compositions of steels were tested, and the number of turns to failure and maximum twisting torque were plotted versus temperature.

All the steels tested, exhibited to have a certain degree of red shortness. By comparing the curves and the respective chemical analyses, the detrimental effect of sulphur and lead and the beneficial effect of manganese, was established.

The method consisted of constructing a load cell using SR-4 strain gages attached to a steel column. The load cell was placed under the hold down screw of the rolling mill and a known load was applied. A technique has been developed to determine the phase boundaries of a binary phase diagram.

Alloys of the magnesium-nickel, cadmium-antimony, copper-cadmium, copper-zinc, and magnesium-zirconium systems were subjected to investigation to verify the operation and resolve a number of limitations of the equipment.

Stratigraphic zones studied were: 1) the upper part of the lower Fredonia limestone member, 2) the upper part of the upper Fredonia limestone member,,and 3) the upper part of the Renault formation.

"The work presented is the investigation of the effect of phosphoric acid on the compaction and shear characteristics of pure kaolin. Pure Georgia kaolin clay average particle size of five microns was mixed with different percentages of phosphoric acid. These mixtures were permitted to react for varying periods of time. The results of the study indicate a notable and gradual increase in dry density of the kaolin with increasing percentages of phosphoric acid admixture. "This investigation resulted in the development of a means of predicting the discharge of water through an internal spillway type rockfill dam. From the data obtained during the various tests, equations were developed by which the coefficient of discharge for an internal spillway type rockfill dam can be determined when the core height, rock size and head causing flow are known.
