"The purpose of a radio telescope is to record information concerning the strength, spectrum, polarization, and direction of arrival of extraterrestrial electromagnetic radiation at radio frequencies. Earthly based radio observatories are hampered in their attempt to achieve this purpose by atmospheric absorption and reflection of the radiation. A lunar based system would not have this problem because the Moon possesses practically no atmosphere. However, other environmental conditions, such as micrometeorites, high frequency radiation, and extreme temperature variations, must be overcome. "The area under study is located along the southeast flank of the Wind River Range in Fremont County, Wyoming, Beds overlying the Madison Group are measured and described in six locations within this area. These locations are: Worth Fork Popo Agie River, Sink’s Canyon, Crooked Creek, Canyon Creek, Little Popo Agie River, and Cherry Creek.

Laboratory studies are used as an aid in correlating the sandstone and dolomite sequences described In the six sections. These studies include sieve and heavy mineral analyses and thin section examination.

"This investigation involves a photomicrographic study of the segregation resulting from the eutectic solidification characteristics of aluminum-uranium alloys, ranging from 5 to 30 weight percent uranium. The segregation can occur in either of two manners; the first, due to the gravitational forces acting upon the growing particles which nucleate in the melt and the second, due to the mode and rate of heat transfer through the material. It was found that segregation occurred only as the result of the latter factor due to the small volume of the ingot and the rapid rate of heat transfer. The segregation was measured …

"The application of preaeration of sewage on the operation and design of waste stabilization lagoons was investigated and its effect on the permissible BOD loadings was determined to provide original and basic information of value to the sewage treatment field.

The investigation was conducted using two 15 gallon aquariums, one of which was designated as the Control Lagoon and the other as the Test Lagoon. These experimental lagoons were subjected to 12 hour diurnal light and dark cycles, provided by means of fluorescent light fixtures.

"This study was undertaken to determine the effect of a continuous low temperature on the operation of a waste stabilization lagoon and to provide information of value to the sewage treatment field.

The investigation was conducted using two experimental lagoons subjected to a continuous illumination of 550 to 600 foot candles emitted by two fluorescent light fixtures. "Flame photometric analyses for K₂O and Na₂O were run on 31 samples of the Precambrian igneous rocks of Missouri. Samples were collected from the field, physically prepared and dissolved by a standard method and a modified standard method of rapid silicate analyses. The K₂O, Na₂O values obtained are averages between two methods of analyses. The modified method reduces by 80% the time required to chemically digest a rock sample. The results for both methods are not significantly different. Curtin and Company Advanced Flame Photometer was used.

"Blasting phenomena are affected by many factors. Previous investigators have studied many of these factors, however, the influence of charge length and explosive detonation velocity have apparently not been thoroughly examined.

It was found by this investigation that the detonation pressure of a commercial explosive is closely controlled by the detonation velocity. The detonation velocity, in turn, will largely determine the necessary blast geometry that can be successfully employed. Relationships were derived between the detonation velocity, in relation to the rock energy propagation velocity, and blast geometry for both bottom and collar primed blasts.

"The Esterbrook area lies within the Laramie Range in Converse and Albany Counties, Wyoming. Exposures include Precambrian metamorphic and igneous rocks, the Tertiary White River formation, and Quaternary alluvium.

Hornblende schist and mica-quartz schist comprise the Precambrian metamorphic rocks. Foliation planes of these rocks trend northeast and dip steeply to the southeast. Metamorphic rocks of younger age probably lie to the southeast.

A distinctive, Precambrian silicic pluton of biotite-leucogranite with marginal zones of muscovite-leucogranite and alaskite passively intrudes the metamorphic rocks, generally parallel to the foliation trends. Numerous granite pegmatites show a zonal distribution around the pluton and appear to …

"The red short phenomenon present in steel, was studied by means of torsion tests at temperatures between 800 and 1200⁰C. Cold drawn bars of different compositions of steels were tested, and the number of turns to failure and maximum twisting torque were plotted versus temperature.

All the steels tested, exhibited to have a certain degree of red shortness. By comparing the curves and the respective chemical analyses, the detrimental effect of sulphur and lead and the beneficial effect of manganese, was established.

A technique has been developed to determine the phase boundaries of a binary phase diagram.

Alloys of the magnesium-nickel, cadmium-antimony, copper-cadmium, copper-zinc, and magnesium-zirconium systems were subjected to investigation to verify the operation and resolve a number of limitations of the equipment.

Stratigraphic zones studied were: 1) the upper part of the lower Fredonia limestone member, 2) the upper part of the upper Fredonia limestone member,,and 3) the upper part of the Renault formation.
