"A computational procedure is presented for determining optimal solutions to the linear and quadratic programming problem when there is more than one objective function subject to linear constraints. In general a unique solution does not exist and a set of "best" or "efficient" points is determined and presented in graphical or tabular form. To solve the mathematical programming problems the simplex method is used for linear objective functions and Wolfe's method is used for quadratic objective functions"--Abstract, page ii.

"The preferential orientations produced in binary alloys of U-Si and U-Cr on plane sections perpendicular to the direction of heat flow by cooling from beta-phase temperatures were determined. The experimentally determined textures were presented using inverse pole figures. A definite and reproducible relationship was found to exist between the preferred orientation present at any position and the cooling rate which material at the position had experienced. It was found that the concentration of the alloying elements within the ranges studied had little detectable effect upon the observed relationship between the cooling rate and the resulting preferential orientation. "The 'Old Workings Area,' so called for its early mining by the Incas, is located 4 1/2 miles northeast of the El Salvador Porphyry copper deposit, the third largest copper producer in Chile. The area mapped in this study is shown to consist of rhyolite pebble conglomerate, two volcanic flows, andesite and rhyolite porphyry, and two intrusions. Quartz porphyry and tourmaline-bearing breccia. Petrographic study of surface and drill core rock samples confirms the field nomenclature used for the five rock types. All of the rock types are altered, but the quartz porphyry and andesite are the most intensely altered. Both …

"The problem consists of the development of the electric far field equations for a forty-five degree corner reflector antenna with a tilted dipole, of arbitrary length, centered at the corner bisector plane to produce circularly-polarized radiation. The far field expression was developed as a function of the spherical coordinate system variables and placed in Fortran language in order to determine the dipole locations which would produce circularly-polarized radiation. At such dipole locations the field patterns were plotted in the [theta] = [pi]/2 and [phi] = 0.0 planes. Computations were made by the IBM 1620 digital computer"--Abstract, page ii.

"The rapid increase in radioisotope applications necessitates improved technology for separation and purification of the fission product elements. Electrodialysis techniques employing Permutit anion exchange membrane(3148) were used to separate technetium from zirconium. The method was based upon the stability of the pertechnetate ion in alkaline solutions and the precipitation of zirconium from alkaline solutions. The separation of radiotechnetium and radiozirconium was effected with a two cell electrodialysis unit employing an anion exchange membrane. "An inverted torsion pendulum for measuring the internal friction and dynamic shear modulus of glass fibers over an extended temperature range has been constructed and calibrated. The calibration consists of the determination of the moment of inertia. Extraneous damping losses were investigated and primary sources were found to be (1) the suspension thread, (2) the method of securing the fiber and (3) air damping. "The fungus, Hygrophorous conicus, produces the enzyme, indole acetic acid oxidase, when grown in the presence of indole acetic acid (IAA) or tryptamine. The IAA acts both as an inducer and a substrate for this intracellular enzyme. The product of the oxidation catalyzed by the IAA oxidase is oxindole acetic acid (OIAA). Since the IAA and OIAA absorb maximally at two different wavelengths the use of spectrophotometric analysis was possible for assaying for the IAA oxidase activity. As he grew older, he played an increasingly important part in the state's affairs. Although intended to be a warts-and-all biography, this thesis concentrates on Newcomb's involvement with newspapers and politics from the time of his first venture in journalism in 1854 until his appointment as Texas' Secretary of State in 1870. In 1957, Adam Rapacki, Foreign Minister of Poland, proposed that a zone be created in Central Europe in which nuclear weapons of all kinds would be prohibited. The zone was to include the countries of West Germany, East Germany, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. This paper seeks to study that proposal in the light of its background and consequences. Each item in a 22 item mental health scale is tested for validity by age, sex, and educational status. On Sunday morning, January 22, 1905, a crowd of workers marched through the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia. They were led by a Russian Orthodox priest, Father George Gapon, who had a petition to grievances to present to Czar Nicholas II. As they converged on the square in front of the Winter Palace, they were fired upon by the Imperial troops. The result was a complete military victory for the autocracy and a casualty rate among the petitioners that has caused the incident to go down in history as "Bloody Sunday."
