Introduction

In 1957, Adam Rapacki, Foreign Minister of Poland, proposed that a zone be created in Central Europe in which nuclear weapons of all kinds would be prohibited. The zone was to include the countries of West Germany, East Germany, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. This paper seeks to study that proposal in the light of its background and consequences. The purpose of such a study, beyond the hopeful accretion of knowledge, is to form conclusions based on the analysis of the proposal as the beginning of a solution to the political and military impasse in Central Europe.

Today according to The American College Dictionary, the term means, "a member of a minority in a legislative assembly who resorts to irregular or obstructive tactics to prevent the adoption of a measure generally favored, or to force a decision almost unanimously disliked." The topic considered in this thesis is the construction and validation of six mental health sub-scales which are based upon procedures controlling for age, sex, and educational status. Each item in a 22 item mental health scale is tested for validity by age, sex, and educational status. Six sub-scales, one for each dichotomy of the three social groups, are constructed from this procedure. The validity of these sub-scales is then tested via six different criteria of mental health. When the Revolutionary War began, the colonist were ill-prepared to meet the growing burden of financial stress in the newly formed Confederation. On Sunday morning, January 22, 1905, a crowd of workers marched through the streets of St. Petersburg, Russia. They were led by a Russian Orthodox priest, Father George Gapon, who had a petition to grievances to present to Czar Nicholas II. As they converged on the square in front of the Winter Palace, they were fired upon by the Imperial troops. The result was a complete military victory for the autocracy and a casualty rate among the petitioners that has caused the incident to go down in history as "Bloody Sunday."

Since the time of Oppel's first experiment, many theories have been advanced in an attempt to explain what causes this illusion to occur in our perception of connected vertical-horizontal lines. "By means of the resistance-element, or probe-wire, detonation-velocity measurement technique, explosive reactions from various blasting agents were studied. To reduce the number of variables, only standard AN-FO 94/6 mixtures were used, as are commonly employed today in constructions and mining operations. Accuracy of the data obtained was excellent, and the method proved itself not only relatively simple to operate but versatile in providing considerable information under many testing conditions. "A vertical intensity magnetic survey of approximately 156 square miles in Cass County, central-west Missouri, revealed a broad circular anomaly whose magnetic relief exceeds 1000 gammas. Surface rocks are very gently inclined and are of Pennsylvanian age. Crystalline basement rocks are at a depth of approximately 2400 feet. Analysis of the data shows that the Belton anomaly consists of discontinuous smaller magnetic anomalies surrounding the central part of this broad anomaly. The central area of the Belton anomaly is occupied by a magnetic low. Analytical calculation showed that the source of the magnetic disturbance is at least 3650 feet below …

The stainless steel fermentor has a multi-speed agitator and aeration rates as high as 15 cubic feet per hour. Temperature indicating, temperature controlling, pH measuring, and automatic foam controlling systems are included in the design.

Sulfite oxidation rates have been determined for the unit at 15 operating conditions. A maximum sulfite oxidation rate of 1060 millimoles of oxygen per liter per hour has been obtained.
