A Computational Method For Determining The Growth Rates Of Saline Water Drops., Robert Alexander Fletcher
A Computational Method For Determining The Growth Rates Of Saline Water Drops., Robert Alexander Fletcher
Masters Theses
"A phenomenologica1 theory is presented which describes the growth or evaporation of cloud droplets containing dissolved NaCl. The main interest is in the early stages of growth. The Maxwell-Fuchs equation is employed with refinements to account for the high sa1t concentration in small droplets. A computer program is presented that ca1culates the growth time as a function of radius for cloud droplets nucleated with NaCl.
The growth times obtainable from the Maxwe11-Fuchs equation differ significantly from the growth times ca1culated using the refined Maxwell-Fuche equation for ambient relative humidities less than or equal to 100%. Growth times for droplets nucleated …
Studies On The Yield And Rate Of Lysine Production Using Brevibacterium Lactofermentum., Ho Bao Nhan
Studies On The Yield And Rate Of Lysine Production Using Brevibacterium Lactofermentum., Ho Bao Nhan
Masters Theses
"The production of lysine by a microbial method was studied. Brevibacterium lactofermentum (ATCC 21086) was used to accumulate lysine. T1\ese experiments were done in shake flasks and a 7.5-liter fermentor.
Lysine and residual glucose were determined at fixed intervals of time during each run. Cell counts were also made for some experiments. Temperature and pH were kept constant during the runs and dissolved oxygen was recorded continuously.
The effects of casamino acid, soy peptone, certain amino acids, glucose and agitation on the rate of production and the yield were studied. It appears that reducing any one of the variables will …
Predicting Natural Frequencies Of A Hydrodynamically Lubricated Journal Bearing With Constant Oil Supply Pressure., Dennis Charles Edwards
Predicting Natural Frequencies Of A Hydrodynamically Lubricated Journal Bearing With Constant Oil Supply Pressure., Dennis Charles Edwards
Masters Theses
"The analytical and experimental investigations presented here determined natural frequencies and system behavior of a full journal bearing loaded dynamically and with oil supply pressure held constant.
The analysis showed that the bearing could be viewed as two independent second-order systems acting perpendicular to each other. This yielded an underdamped bearing for εO < 0.5747 and an overdamped bearing for 0.655 < εO < 0.675. The analysis also showed the bearing to be unstable beyond εO = 0.675.
The analysis, however, is limited to a full journal bearing with an oil supply pressure of 20 psig. and therefore, various supply pressures should be tested to yield an overall analysis"- Abstract, p. ii

A Kinetic Study Of The Cerium (Iv)-Oxalic Acid System In Acidic Sulfate Media., Robert Richard Kessler
A Kinetic Study Of The Cerium (Iv)-Oxalic Acid System In Acidic Sulfate Media., Robert Richard Kessler
Masters Theses
"The kinetics of the cerium (IV) oxidation of oxalic acid was studied by a stopped-flow spectrophotometric technique in acidic sulfate media. The media consisted of perchloric acid, sodium sulfate and sodium perchlorate which allowed for the determination and control of the various sulfate and hydroxo species of cerium (IV) at prescribed hydrogen ion concentrations. The rate of reaction decreases rapidly with increasing sulfate concentration which yields evidence against previous reports indicating Ce (SO4)2 and Ce (SO4)2-3 as the reactive cerium (IV) species. The results indicate that Ce (SO4)2+ is the …
A Digital Simulation Of The Statistical Properties Of Ionospheric Scintillation, William Frederick Deckelman
A Digital Simulation Of The Statistical Properties Of Ionospheric Scintillation, William Frederick Deckelman
Masters Theses
"This thesis shows that a bandlimited bivariate-normal time series is a useful model for the envelope of scintillating radio signals traversing the ionosphere. A software computer model is designed and its parameters varied to obtain good fits of the fade duration distribution of the time series generated by the model with that of an actual block of ionospheric scintillation data. The power spectrum of the actual time series corresponding to the in-phase and phase quadrature components of ionospheric scintillation is shown to lie between that of a first- and second-order Butterworth filter through comparison with model generated data"--Abstract, page ii.
A Computerized Simulation Of A Personal Rapid Transit System., James Richard Cromer
A Computerized Simulation Of A Personal Rapid Transit System., James Richard Cromer
Masters Theses
"The movement of people from an origin to a destination has become a complex and sometimes severe problem, The present modes of transportation available, which include the rapid rail systems, bus transit service, and the personal automobile, have proven quite ineffective in dealing with the situation, A new concept in the transportation area is that of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT). This concept offers a promising solution to many of our people and goods movement difficulties. Before this new system can be implemented it is necessary that various design, construction, and operational criteria be evaluated to determine the optimal system to …

The Effects Of Washout In Polydispersed Metalic Aerosols, Jerry N. Burford
The Effects Of Washout In Polydispersed Metalic Aerosols, Jerry N. Burford
Masters Theses
"Experimental Collection Efficiencies are presented for drops of approximately 0.1cm radius falling through aluminium, magnesium and molybdenum oxide polydispersed aerosols. The experimentation was conducted in two identical cylindrical chambers, one being used for aerosol washout, and the other for allowing the aerosol to decay normally. The Collection Efficiency data were thus determined by comparing the aerosol concentration changes in the two chambers. The rather strong effects that induced micro-turbulence and relative humidity have on aerosol collection and aerosol decay were observed and are discussed"--Abstract, page ii.

Propane-Carbon Dioxide And Propylene-Carbon Dioxide Mixture Adsorption In 5a Molecular Sieves., Bui Van Hong
Masters Theses
"Measurements of the adsorption on SA molecular sieves have established that at 1 atmosphere and 24.0°c, both systems, propane-carbon dioxide and propylene-carbon dioxide, form ideal solution adsorbed phases. Total mass adsorbed ranges from 112 to 207 milligrams/gram sorbent for propane-carbon dioxide and from 130 to 207 milligrams/gram sorbent for propylene-carbon dioxide"-- Abstract, p. ii
Bidding And Negotiation Of Government Funded Contracts With Inflationary Considerations., David Thurman Hearst
Bidding And Negotiation Of Government Funded Contracts With Inflationary Considerations., David Thurman Hearst
Masters Theses
"The traditional government contract type has played an important role in the economy of the United States. In its most used type, that of fixed price, it represents a stabilizing factor in the cycles of the business world. However, recently this type of contract has been affected by the nation's most recent plague, double-digit inflation.
Inflation attacks almost all phases of stability in the economy and in contract negotiations and bidding techniques. It erodes the monetary unit of the economy, distorts forecasting models, and creates potential ruin for contractors due to uncertainty in costs.
Research pertaining to government funded contracts …

Metal Promoted Reactions Of Enamino Ketones, Suhas Satchidanand Joshi
Metal Promoted Reactions Of Enamino Ketones, Suhas Satchidanand Joshi
Masters Theses
The reaction of 4-amino-3-allyl-3-penten-2-one (7) with mercuric acetate in acetic acid was found to produce 4-amino-1-pentene (12) in 70% yield. The scope of this unusual cleavage reaction was investigated by systematic variation of substituents on the enamino ketone framework, the metal salt and the solvent. The presence of the allyl group was necessary for the reaction to produce compound 12.
Under a variety of conditions there was no evidence for cyclization of 7 to give heterocyclic compounds. Neither was there evidence for cyclization in reactions of 4-amino-3-penten-2-one with vinyl acetate in the presence of mercury (II) or thallium (III) salts …

Mechanism Of Solvolysis Of 3-Methyl-2-Butyl Brosylates., Luu Le Nghi
Mechanism Of Solvolysis Of 3-Methyl-2-Butyl Brosylates., Luu Le Nghi
Masters Theses
"The brosylates of 3-methyl-2-butanol and it's a-d1-, ß-d1-, B-d3-, and S-d4- analogs have been synthesized. The solvolytic rate data for these compounds were determined. The solvolytic products in 70% (vol.) ethanol-water have been identified by flame ionization gas chromatography using a Carbowax 20M column. The amount of each product was measured by integrating the peak areas from the chromatograms. By analyzing the isotope effect data, the rate determining step is shown to be the formation of the hydrogen bridged ion pair intermediate. By evaluating the GC-mass spectral analysis of the isopentenes, a …
The Investigation Of Video Sensitivity And Data Processing Errors Encountered In An Airborne Receiver, James Lee Hamilton
The Investigation Of Video Sensitivity And Data Processing Errors Encountered In An Airborne Receiver, James Lee Hamilton
Masters Theses
"The investigation of video sensitivity and both biphase demodulation and Doppler shift processing errors is performed. The effect of pass band ripple on the noise bandwidth of two pole filters is developed. The effect of feedback on the effective noise figure of a high gain IF (Intermediate Frequency) amplifier is investigated and discussed. An analysis of a limiting amplifier-biphase demodulator circuit is attempted. A computer simulation of this same circuit is also performed and the results are compared to measurements taken in the laboratory. With respect to multipath corrupted input signals, a differential phase shift keyed biphase demodulator is shown …
