Transformer Connection Study For 138 Kv To 12.47 Kv Substations Of The Union Electric Company St. Louis, Missouri, John Glenn Walsh Jan 1974

Transformer Connection Study For 138 Kv To 12.47 Kv Substations Of The Union Electric Company St. Louis, Missouri, John Glenn Walsh

Masters Theses

"This thesis examines the transformer connections that can be used in the new 138-12.47 kV substations on the Union Electric power system. The object is to determine if a zero phase shift transformer without a delta connected tertiary winding can be used and economically justified. Traditionally a delta winding has been automatically included for this application without taking engineering time and effort to study all ramifications including possible dollar savings available with other connections. Three transformer manufacturers supplied technical and cost data which are analyzed, based on Union Electric system conditions. Consideration of relaying, harmonics and unbalanced loading shows that …

A Digital Simulation Of The Statistical Properties Of Ionospheric Scintillation, William Frederick Deckelman Jan 1974

A Digital Simulation Of The Statistical Properties Of Ionospheric Scintillation, William Frederick Deckelman

Masters Theses

"This thesis shows that a bandlimited bivariate-normal time series is a useful model for the envelope of scintillating radio signals traversing the ionosphere. A software computer model is designed and its parameters varied to obtain good fits of the fade duration distribution of the time series generated by the model with that of an actual block of ionospheric scintillation data. The power spectrum of the actual time series corresponding to the in-phase and phase quadrature components of ionospheric scintillation is shown to lie between that of a first- and second-order Butterworth filter through comparison with model generated data"--Abstract, page ii.

The Effects Of Metrazol On Acquisition Of An Oddity Task In Squirrel Monkeys, Stephen Wilson Jan 1974

The Effects Of Metrazol On Acquisition Of An Oddity Task In Squirrel Monkeys, Stephen Wilson

Masters Theses

Recent evidence indicates that Metrazol can enhance learning in rodents provided certain variables such as genetic strain, difficulty of problem to be learned, and dosage levels are considered and carefully controlled. The effects of Metrazol on oddity acquisition in four squirrel monkeys was investigated. The apparatus employed was a modified version of the Wisconsin General Testing Apparatus. The dosage level of Metrazol was 15 mg/kg of body weight. The results suggest that Metrazol had no effect on the learning of the oddity task by the squirrel monkeys.

Conodonts Of The Mecca Quarry Shale, Timothy Charles O'Neill Jan 1974

Conodonts Of The Mecca Quarry Shale, Timothy Charles O'Neill

Masters Theses

Conodonts were found to be abundant in the Middle Pennsylvanian, Mecca Quarry Shale, Parke County, Indiana. Nine forms were identified in this black fissile shale from a locality along Montgomery Creek near the town of Mecca. These elements are: Hindeodella parva, Idiognathodus delacatus, Gondolella sp. a, Ozarkodina delacatula, Lonchodina clarki, Ligonodina typa, Lonchodus simplex, Metalonchodina bidentata, and Neoprioniodus conjunctus.

Ratios of elements to each other were determined and used to arrive at an idea of what conodont assemblages were present. At least three asemblages are presented; Scottognathus, Duboisella, and Illinella …

Regional Geological Engineering Mapping By Erts-1 Imagery A Case Study On Taiwan., Shih-Tsu Chen Jan 1974

Regional Geological Engineering Mapping By Erts-1 Imagery A Case Study On Taiwan., Shih-Tsu Chen

Masters Theses

"Three types of maps of Taiwan were made by using color composites of ERTS-1 images. The three types of maps, consisting of a regional land use map, an offshore sediment distribution map, and a tectonic map, were made from a color composite imagery utilizing Diazo chrome and Esco chrome films with a planimetrically accuracy sufficient for a 1:1,000,000 scale map.

Color enhanced imagery was found to increase the accuracy level of the land use interpretation. Three color enhancement techniques were used to increase the color contrast between the scenes of different land use. Particular land use scenes required a special …

Esca Characterization Of Flotation Products From A Lead-Zinc-Copper Concentrator On The New Lead Belt Of Southeast Missouri., Kevin Leroy Purdy Jan 1974

Esca Characterization Of Flotation Products From A Lead-Zinc-Copper Concentrator On The New Lead Belt Of Southeast Missouri., Kevin Leroy Purdy

Masters Theses

"Electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) was used to determine the surface characteristics of products from an operating Pb-Zn-Cu concentrator on the New Lead Belt of southeast Missouri and pure galena and sphalerite samples treated with flotation reagents in concentrations similar to those used in the mills. The emphasis was on the action of surface modifiers such as Na2Cr2O7, starch, SO2, CuSO4 and NaCN in sphalerite flotation and in the galena-chalcopyrite separation. The objective of the investigation was to monitor the relative oxidation states of the mineral and reagent constituents and correlate these …

An Analysis Of The (N-1,N) Pad ̌Approximant To The Ideal Delay Operator In Terms Of Bessell Functions., Carl Richard Erdmann Jan 1974

An Analysis Of The (N-1,N) Pad ̌Approximant To The Ideal Delay Operator In Terms Of Bessell Functions., Carl Richard Erdmann

Masters Theses

"A realizable, lowpass, non-minimum phase approximation to the ideal distortion less delay operator e-st0 is analyzed in terms of the Bessel functions. The characteristics of the first ten members of the approximation are explicitly considered in this paper. The approximation is demonstrated to be realizable for all orders. Amplitude and phase characteristics are described in relation to the ideal delay operator in compact form and in terms of existing ii tabulated functions. Both amplitude and delay bandwidths are characterized by simple and accurate approximations. The maximally flat properties of both amplitude and delay responses are demonstrated. The transient …

On The Extension Of The Output Capabilities Of Flowware, A Graphical Interactive Digital System Simulator., R. Dean Delker Jan 1974

On The Extension Of The Output Capabilities Of Flowware, A Graphical Interactive Digital System Simulator., R. Dean Delker

Masters Theses

"A research effort which addresses the problem of providing output from a register transfer level digital simulator which allows the user to better understand how his simulated system functions are described. A review of the output capabilities of existing register transfer level systems indicates that a strictly textual output leaves much to be desired, and for that reason, this work concentrates on developing forms of meaningful graphical output displays. This criterion of "meaningfulness" can be considered as a twofold objective to be reached in that the output must both reflect the functioning of the system and be presented in a …

Possible Damage Mechanism In Dresden 2 Class Boiling Water Reactor Fuel, Donald Lee Moffett Jan 1974

Possible Damage Mechanism In Dresden 2 Class Boiling Water Reactor Fuel, Donald Lee Moffett

Masters Theses

"A thermal hydraulic analysis of a typical hot channel of a Dresden 2 class boiling water reactor is studied for possible severe local overheating. The COBRA-II thermal hydraulic analysis code is modified to include critical heat flux calculations for each subchannel. The effects of flow distribution, inlet mass velocity variations, dimensional tolerances, enrichment variations, and input parameters are examined in detail. Bulk channel results are in good agreement with the published data, but the assembly wall side of the corner fuel rod has a minimum critical heat flux ratio of less than unity for a number of the situations examined. …
