The "Euaggelion" According To St Paul, Luther Meinzen May 1947

The "Euaggelion" According To St Paul, Luther Meinzen

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The supremacy of the Ε’υαδδε’λιον has not lost an iota of its importance to man, although centuries separate us from Paul. Despite attempts through the ages to destroy the Ε’υαδδε’λιον or to change it, it is still the power of God unto salvation that it always was. Controversies that have been waged over it have largely been the result of misunderstandings of the Ε’υαδδε’λιον. Therefore a study of this basic concept of Christianity and of theology of Paul is purposeful. It is the aim of this thesis to present the correct understanding of the term and to develop its implications.

The Problem Of Vanity In Ecclesiastes, George Thomas May 1946

The Problem Of Vanity In Ecclesiastes, George Thomas

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

In this weary and distracted world, burdened down with sin and sorrow, we naturally asks “Is there anything worth seeking, worth having? anything that will still the cravings of the restless spirit within us, and bring peace and satisfaction to the troubled heart? What should be the chief object of man's desire and pursuit? To what end should life be devoted? Where does man finally go, i.e., what happens to him at death? Are all things really vanity?"

That is the problem which Solomon undertook to solve in Ecclesiastes - he resolves all the foregoing questions under the category of …

The Genealogies Of Jesus Christ In Matthew And Luke, Theodore Schubkegel May 1946

The Genealogies Of Jesus Christ In Matthew And Luke, Theodore Schubkegel

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

For centuries scholars have recognized that the genealogies of Christ in Matthew and Luke, present problems. Each genealogy has its own problems. But the biggest problem is to harmonize the two genealogies.

The Great Harlot Of Revelation Chapter Seventeen, Lorman Petersen May 1945

The Great Harlot Of Revelation Chapter Seventeen, Lorman Petersen

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The great problem before us in this thesis is: What is the value of the multifarious interpretations which have been offered concerning the images of Revelation XVII? Our thesis has the specific title. "The Great Harlot of Revelation XVII. An Evaluation of the Various Interpretations Offered Concerning", which topic centers around the most important image (The Harlot) of the chapter. But our treatise will also contain the views and interpretations regarding the other lesser symbols of the chapter --- the Beast, the kings, the seven mountains, and all those problems mentioned before.

Pauline Teaching Of The Future, Bernard Wittrock Jan 1945

Pauline Teaching Of The Future, Bernard Wittrock

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This treatise on Paul's view of the future life is an exegetical study. The importance of such an exegetical study cannot be minimized; in a way it must take precedence over against the dogmatical approach. It has been aptly stated, "For all true dogmatics rests wholly on true exegesis; it is wholly dependent, never independent.”

Concept Of Sin New Testament, August Waechter Dec 1944

Concept Of Sin New Testament, August Waechter

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The proper concept of sin is basic in true religion; for only where there is an adequate concept of sin can there be a correct evaluation of the necessity of the deliverance from sin and the boon of salvation from sin and its consequences. This is very evident from the fact that even where there is a knowledge of the facts of Redemption from sin, the Gospel of Salvation is often emasculated, and the savior from sin is represented only as a Teacher of morals, an Example, a Martyr to His principles.

New Testament Exegesis, Elmer Griesse May 1944

New Testament Exegesis, Elmer Griesse

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The purpose of this treatise is, first of all, on the basis of Scripture, carefully to define the various gifts as they are listed in Romans 18, I Corinthians 12-14, and Ephesians 4; at the same time to note concrete examples of these gifts throughout the New Testament writings; secondly, to call attention to a few significant trends in history pertaining directly or indirectly to one or more of the spiritually gifts, and, finally, to state the basic principles which should guide us in our · present day evaluation of spiritual gifts.

"The Son Of Man" : A Discussion Of The Term As Found In Daniel Vii, 13 And In The New Testament Passages., Mark Steege May 1942

"The Son Of Man" : A Discussion Of The Term As Found In Daniel Vii, 13 And In The New Testament Passages., Mark Steege

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

But one name has caused difficulties. It has a hidden meaning which a mere translation does not reveal. We refer to the name by which Jesus spoke of Himself and which others either dared not or would not repeat after Him. Others called Him Rabbi, Lord, and Master. He called Himself THE SON OF MAN. But what is the meaning or this name? Why did Christ so consistently use it? Milligan tells us that “probably no other single phrase of the Gospels has called forth a greater variety of interpretations; nor can we be said even yet to have reached …

The Prophecies Of Balam, Theodore Martin Apr 1940

The Prophecies Of Balam, Theodore Martin

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

Balaam is known largely because of his connection with the story of the ass that spoke, and, while critics point the skeptical finger and rant against the incredible nature of the narrative, they make the usual mistake of drawing attention away from the important part, the prophecies, and centering it on one incident, which is perhaps more striking, although merely incidental.

Chargis A Study On The Word For Grace In The New Testament, Robert Zorn May 1938

Chargis A Study On The Word For Grace In The New Testament, Robert Zorn

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The scope of this present study is not to be distinctly Doctrinal, or historical, tracing the doctrine of grace and its various aberrations, through history, much as such a study would be interesting and instructive. That would take us too far afield. It is our purpose to confine ourself to an examination of the word χ͔χ́ρ͔ις itself, and to trace its use in the New Testament. Seeing the importance of the Doctrine of Grace, it is essential that we study the divinely revealed record, to see how the word is used. This must ever be the basis for all doctrine, …
