Based on the findings of the Walker study of the Lowenfield Mosaic test (1957) and the [other] studies of creativity, the following hypotheses may be made. Creative children will make original or novel designs and show complex use of color and shape. Their designs will be more asymmetrical in shape and placement and contain a greater number of places than the designs of noncreative children. They will make representational rather than abstract designs, and their human and animal figures will show motion.

My initial introduction to Colonel Pegram was facilitated by the reading of Lee's Lieutenants, that monumental work on the Army of Northern Virginia, by Doctor Douglas Southall Freeman. One obscure footnote on page 674, volume Ill attracted my attention and imagination. Doctor Freeman states in this subscript that "Willie" Pegram deserves a biography. This study is an attempt to partially meet that challenge; however, I use the word "partially", for a complete biography would of necessity include more materials on the subject's early life. The diffusion coefficients of sodium tracers in single crystals of pure sodium were measured as a function of temperature over a range of 20-41^oC. The relation D=D_o exp (-Q/RT) was found with Q 11,000 +/- 170 cal/mole and D_o 0.313 +/- 0.018 cm²/sec. These values may be compared with Q=10,450 cal/mole and D_o=0.242 cm²/sec. reported for polycrystalline sodium.

Like so many writers of the twenties, Hart Crane was born in the Midwest--Garretsville, Ohio, to be exact, on July 21, 1899; and, again like his fellow artists, he matured in a society which he seemed to have already outgrown by virtue of his sensitive temperament. The amoral world of burgeoning American business was a place where no writers belonged. Main Street crowds disliked them as much as they disliked crowds. And, in finding his own path through that world, he, like many of them, permanently lost his direction.

Photoperiodism And Other Factors Affecting The Germination Of Statoblasts Of Lophopodella Carteri (Hyatt), Elizabeth Ann Bergin

Sample groups of the statoblasts of Lophopodella carteri (Hyatt) were pretreated by drying, cooling, freezing, immersion in water and combinations of these conditions. Then, they were subjected to 24-hour dark and 8, 12, and 24 hour light photoperiods . A control was maintained under natural dark-light (day-night) conditions. The analysis of variance and Newman-Keuls tests were used to analyze the data. The cool wet pretreatment gave the best germination for the statoblasts. For the photoperiods, statoblasts in 8 and 12 hour light periods and the control had the highest germination rate.

The chelating agents, 2, 2, 8, 8-Tetrakishydroxymethyl1-3, 7-diaza-1, 5, 9-nonanetriol (''Disec") and 2, 2, 8 ,8-Tetramethyl1-3, 7-diaza-5-nonaneol ("Symaminol") were prepared and investigated with respect to their Basicity and Stability Constants.

The compound, "Disec," investigated in earlier work was again studied using more precise and controlled conditions of temperature (30.000 + - 0.002°C), measured pH readings and volume readings.

Tbe compound, "Symaminol," was prepared in the laboratory and studied in the same manner as "Disec." Examination of the literature yielded no evidence of "Symaminol" having been previously investigated.

Research on the pyrolysis or organic compounds has received an increasing amount of attention in recent years. The pyrolysis of terpene hydrocarbons has been of interest primarily because of their wide-spread and abundant natural occurrence. In addition terpenes have been investigated because of their interesting stereochemistry.

Menthol is a C₁₀ monocyolic terpene alcohol. Its thermal decomposition at temperatures greater than 500°C has not been investigated previously because of inadequate methods of analysis.

The pyrolysis of other terpene hydrocarbons has revealed new routes to useful intermediates from relatively cheap source materials. Menthol, however, has never been considered as a possibility …
