In this thesis I have attempted to give a brief review of certain forms of extra-curricular activities from the time of Plato to the present. I have stated from the principles on which student participation is based. The purpose of this report is to present plans and directions for laboratory apparatus, which may be built, by the instructor and pupils themselves from inexpensive materials. The report describes projects undertaken in approaching this problem in a particular school. It is not a complete laboratory manual. The equipment is not all that would be needed either in a course in general science or in physics. It is assumed that some laboratory supplies other than those made by pupils must be purchased, but many simple pieces of apparatus may be built in the classroom by the pupils with great economy. …

The history of commercial education reveals that when business $subjects were first added to the secondary school curriculum, they were offered to students who were not interested in going to college or were financially unable to do so and to those who lacked the ability to pursue college courses. Principals were very anxious to show large enrollment figures and ready to admit new subjects it these subjects would help to keep boys and girls in school. It was believed that such subjects would better prepare students to secure and hold a job.

There are a great many devices for solving differential equations of certain special forms. But there is a large number of classes of differential equations that are not included in these special forms and cannot be integrated by quadratures or other purely elementary methods. As early as the seventeenth century the English mathematician, john Wallis (1616-1703), used the term "hypergeometric" to describe a series which he was studying. This series, ∑(a)(a+b)(a+2b)…(a+n-1b), is quite different from the usual geometric series, hence the term, "hyper" (=above) plus "geometric," was used to signify that the series was of greater complexity than the geometric series. Wallis did not consider his series a power series or a function of x.
In 1769 this series received a remarkable development at the hands of Loonhard Euler who, following the example of Wallis, applied the word "hypergeometric" to it. He observed that …

Markownikow's rule states that in the addition to unsaturated ,negative groups add to the carbon atom having the least number of Hydrogen atoms. It has been observed that mercaptans and hydrogen sulfide add to olefine contrary to Markownikow's rule in the presence of sodium alcoholates or sulfuric acid.
