Conflict in simple terms, means a state of disagreement, controversy or opposition. It could also mean the existence of a prolonged battle, struggle or clash between two or more parties. Obegi and Nyamboga (2008), quoting Nicholas (1992) described conflict as situations where two people (or groups) wish to carry out acts which are mutually incompatible. He further states that conflict involves, “the pushing and pulling, giving and taking, process of finding the balance between powers”. This paper focuses on the obstacles to development information provision and use in rural communities in Nigeria, where the impact of the oral tradition remains very strong. A review of the Nigerian rural community and its rural information environment is made. Requirements for development process in rural communities are taken into account. The paper discusses those attributes of information that are counter-productive to the development process in Nigerian rural communities, where more than 70% are known to be illiterate. The Role Of Auditors In Fraud Detection, Prevention And Reporting In Nigeria, Ayobami Oluwagbemiga Oyinlola

Abstract This study investigates the role of auditors in the detection, prevention and reporting of fraud. Data were obtained from 184 respondents in Nigeria. The findings revealed that the respondents are very concerned about the problem of fraud. In addition, the respondents placed very high expectation on auditors’ duties on fraud prevention and detection. This perception is in contrast with the stated primary objective of an audit, as stipulated in ISA 200, which merely required auditors to form an opinion on the financial statements, but not of fraud detection. This study compared the effects of captioned video instruction and face-to-face instruction on library use instruction of secondary school students with hearing impairment. This study adopted the quasi-experimental pre-test, post -test control group design. This study employed two treatment groups comprising captioned video instruction group and face to face instruction group as well as a control group. Two research instruments, Library Use Instruction Test and Library Practical Use Checklist were used as data collection tools. The study concluded that both instructional strategies are effective in giving library instructions to persons with hearing impairment

This study investigated the influence of farmers’ personal and socio-economic characteristics on their use of agricultural information provided by the Imo State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP), Nigeria. An ex-post facto research design was used for the study. Stratified proportionate sampling technique was used to select a sample of 1,032 out of a total of 6,300 farmers across the existing 34 farm blocks and 63 farm cells in the three ADP zones of the state. A self-developed and structured questionnaire was used for data collection. A reliability co-efficient of 0.83 was obtained for the instrument using the Crumbach alpha. Two hypotheses …

In an article investigating how librarians are depicted in the mass media, Maura Seale identifies five categories into which the majority of representations fall: the old maid, the policeman, the parody, the inept librarian, and the hero/ine. Unlike prior representations of librarians in mass media, however, which have been largely controlled by non-librarians, the increased opportunities for amateur video distribution on sites like YouTube have allowed librarians themselves to decide how they are portrayed. Of particular concern is the placement of library- and information-oriented policies within a larger context. The study consists of two parts. The first briefly highlights the research methods used in library and information science (LIS). It identifies model development as an effective research method for LIS research. It also reviews different aspects of models and their use in LIS research in Pakistan. The second part illustrates an example of a draft model entitled “PAK-NISEA” recently proposed for a PhD project. Related issues of the proposed model, i.e. rationale, objectives, research methodology, data collection process, important characteristics of PAK-NISEA, are also discussed.

This paper examines challenges of access to agricultural information by fish farmers in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The survey research design was employed. 100 fish farmers from Bayelsa and Delta States in Nigeria, served as population for the study. The questionnaire, personal observation, and oral interview were the instruments used in data collection. The study revealed that there is availability of relevant agricultural information for fish farmers, with a corresponding difficulty in accessing such information. Factors impeding access to agricultural information include inadequate agricultural extension officers and insufficient use of media, among others. This research analyzes caricatures related to Library and Information Science (LIS), to identify LIS aspects in order to recognize valid criticisms and offer recommendations. A university library is the hub of academic activities in African universities. ICT has transformed the library into a new information unit, providing electronic cataloging, online public access catalogue (OPAC), electronic acquisitions and serial control, interlibrary loan, and circulation. Internet bandwidth is the life blood of a modern university. Low bandwidth and connectivity have not allowed the African university libraries to benefit from information superhighways This paper examines initiatives and extent of connectivity among African university libraries. This paper examines the role of Nigerian private university libraries in supporting research. The case study approach was used for the study and a questionnaire was used to collect data from 120 respondents. Data were analyzed using percentage and graphical analysis. The major findings are that: research impacts positively on community development, research output impacts the recognition and ranking of universities, the library impacts positively on research, and library ICT impacts on the quality of research. Long before the emergence of the World Wide Web, librarians had a long tradition of collecting and classifying physical materials. Influenced by these activities, information literacy instruction has defined and taught sources as objects of similar content and/or format. Because of their ability to organize information for easy retrieval, such definitions are helpful from a practical standpoint. This study evaluates the content and quality of academic library websites. An evaluation checklist is used as a tool for evaluation of academic library websites. The checklist is divided into five main parts followed by Rating Table. The quantitative pointing system (ten point scale) and five point rating scales are used to evaluate and rank the websites. The study reveals that very few (16 percent) websites provide information about the date of last updating. This pilot study explores the awareness of Library 2.0 among academic librarians in selected universities in Southwest Nigeria. The paper examines resource sharing among libraries and it benefirts for legal research and administration of justice in Nigeria.Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is a critical requirement resource sharing. The use of Z39.50 as an aid to resource sharing is discussed.Categories of resource sharing and the benefits to be derived from each category by the cooperating libraries are also highlighted. Factors that hinder effective resource sharing are identified and analyzed. Recommendations are given for the initiation and promotion of resource sharing among law libraries in Nigeria.

Final year students of Covenant University implore the use of the Internet in writing their projects. This paper examines the extent of accessibility and use of the Internet by these students and the impact the Internet has on their projects. A questionnaire was used for data collection. This research investigates the preservation and conservation of information-bearing materials in libraries in Nigeria. A survey drew its population from the staff of Delta State University (DELSU) Library, Abraka and Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Library, Effurun. The results show that information-bearing materials are at high risk of deterioration. There is no written preservation and conservation policy, no security policy, no personnel adequately trained in conservation, and lack of conservation facilities and equipment.

This study investigated the availability and use of audiovisual and electronic resources by distance learning students at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). A questionnaire was administered tothe distance learning students selected across the various departments of the NOUN.
