High-risk term and preterm infants are most vulnerable to an altered microbiome due to the atypical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) environment. This study described the frequency and changes in caregiving activities that have the potential to alter the development of the skin, gut, and pulmonary microbiome.

This study identified processes used by CNs working in different settings to improve clinical outcomes. Findings demonstrated that CNS practice is situational and contextual; processes used to gain trust, solve problems, and communicate with other disciplines, when done well, are highly effective and often invisible.

Readiness to execute infant safe-sleep behaviors during the first year of life impacts infant mortality rates. This study found that beliefs regarding infant safety and improved health for the infant, influence of the mother"s significant other, and ability to limit caregivers in the first year of life supported parental readiness.

"Patient-reported outcome measures" contribute unique findings to inform the nursing process and patient-centered heart failure treatment. Lung cancer screening has been shown to reduce lung cancer related mortality by 20%. While screening can save lives, little is known about how it is perceived by primary care nurse practitioners. Purpose: Health literacy, or the ability to obtain, appraise and integrate health-related knowledge, is recognized by the Institute of Medicine as an integral component of high-quality health care. In adults, limited health literacy can be a critical indicator of adverse health outcomes such as: diminished health-related knowledge, increased measures of morbidity, poor adherence to medication regimens, and high utilization of health care resources. It is estimated that 20 - 36% of all adults in the United States have limited health literacy, and that the prevalence rises to closer to 50% among those who are also from a low income background. …

This experimental pilot study explored the effectiveness of an 8 week mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) and cognitive behavioral intervention in impacting wellbeing among first semester junior nursing students. Findings indicate that MBSR and cognitive behavioral approaches are effective in supporting student wellbeing.

This study investigated the effects of an educational intervention to promote healthy behaviors in nursing students. The findings of this study indicated that an intervention that focused on spiritual growth as the foundation of healthy behaviors resulted in more frequent practice of the healthy behaviors in nursing students.

A scripted movie of interprofessional teamwork (palliative care of an ALS patient) can provide simulation experience for various tracks of nursing (traditional BSN, LPN-BSN, and RN-BSN) via face-to-face or online delivery modes. Evidence of student satisfaction, self-confidence in learning, and perceived interprofessional competency can be achieved through this simulation modality.
