African immigrants (AIs) are a growing yet understudied immigration population in the US. Churches that serve the AI population are a feasible and ideal setting for conducting community-based research to understand the cardiovascular health of AIs. This presentation shares findings from a retrospective chart review on the incidence of peri-traumatic symptoms, including loss of consciousness and memory loss, of patients seen for a forensic medical examination following sexual assault. Predictors of peri-traumatic symptoms will be explored.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the utility of Activity Group Therapy with same interests (Railway) for children with ASD. Comparison of before and after has been carried out on social skills and self-esteem. There are no significant differences but effect sizes were medium to large.

A pilot study of a parenting intervention delivered by an interdisciplinary clinical team improved maternal indices for mothers enrolled in community mental health services. While intervention with this vulnerable and often stigmatized population is very challenging, our program was found to be feasible and acceptable in this community-based setting.

Globally, two million patients are undergoing hemodialysis for end-stage renal disease. Hemodialysis patients have higher morbidity and mortality associated with adverse events and a complex treatment regimen. This symposium explores patient, provider, and system factors that can be leveraged to decrease adverse events, readmission, and improve symptom management and quality-of-life.
