Designers often address the continuity of user experiences across various media platforms. Features are the focus of media development. But the media-dependency of features means that truly preserving the essence of one feature across media platforms, in a process of cross-media translation, can result in superficially dissimilar features. This paper examines how TikTok impacts creativity through an investigation of the platform’s interaction and algorithmic design. Through one-on-one interviews, autoethnography, walkthroughs, and observation, this research reveals how TikTok’s design is impacting the creative processes, form, aesthetics, and topics of videos shared on the platform. The results demonstrate how both algorithmic and interaction design mediate video elements such as sounds, timing, style, language, trends, length, and more. TikTok’s “Duet” feature is taken as a case study, demonstrating that participants are engaging in certain creative forms and processes to increase algorithmic visibility, which is primed by the platform’s design. Public health communication (PHC) material design requires information accessibility, consideration of the readers’ health literacy, prior knowledge levels, and the depth–length of information the reader can process without feeling too much cognitive burden. Non-verbal communication methods can be employed to assist in communicating with both the elderly with communication impairments and foreign caregivers. This study focuses on the use of vocabulary and sentence construction in daily communication with the care receiver during the nursing process. This study explores the effectiveness of using comics as a medium to track personal behavioral data, focusing on acts of kindness. Through a prototype-based examination of digitally assembled comics, the findings demonstrate that comics offer a unique communication method that enables the integration of narrative elements into the flow of behavioral data. This integration not only provides coherence and context to qualitative data but also allows for the visualization of spatial-temporal details, presenting data in a personal and meaningful manner. Informed by Edward Wilson’s (1984) concept of biophilia, this paper describes a biophilic approach to teaching an introductory visual communication design course built specifically around the theme of tree stories. Drawing upon various subject matter experts and disciplinary perspectives, this course demonstrates high-impact teaching practices, including collaboration, experiential learning, and developing long-term projects. This paper describes the course design, includes a selection of student work produced in the course, and highlights student reflections. Over the past two decades, rapid economic development has transformed the practice of user experience. This article reflects on the evolution of the experience economy in China and the development of the experience strategy, from a design perspective, to address the challenges of an increasingly competitive market. The case study of a leading design consultancy in Shanghai, China, demonstrates how user experience (UX) design has evolved into experience strategy by 2023.
