A Dynamic Approach To Stakeholder Theory: A Case Study Of Labor - Management Relations At General Motors, Lee Elizabeth Markison
A Dynamic Approach To Stakeholder Theory: A Case Study Of Labor - Management Relations At General Motors, Lee Elizabeth Markison
Honors Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to identify areas for improvement in the current stakeholder management literature. The current stakeholder management theories were analyzed to determine their benefits and detriments. To determine how these theories work in a corporation, General Motors was selected as a single-case study to determine the patterns of stakeholder management over time. These patterns demonstrated the need for dynamic stakeholder management over time, with an emphasis on collaboration and the necessity of recognizing the greater stakeholder network surrounding the corporation. Proper stakeholder management in the early years of General Motors would have prevented its failure, while …
Surviving The Holocaust: A Life History Study, Greg Jones
Surviving The Holocaust: A Life History Study, Greg Jones
Honors Theses
The aim of this thesis was to attempt to explain the inexplicable, thus coming to some concrete rationale as to why Murray was able to persevere unlike so many unfortunate victims who perished. The findings of this research attribute Murray's survival to three distinct categories; (1) Murray's geographical location and relationship to his hometown of Wierchomla, Poland (2) rare level of low anti-Semitic activity encountered and (3) a number of miscellaneous personal factors that included but are not limited to his diet, gender, age, psychological composition, family connections, agency, etc.
Audience Effects In Cognitive Task Performance In Capuchin Monkeys (Cebus Apella), Sean Patrick Coyne
Audience Effects In Cognitive Task Performance In Capuchin Monkeys (Cebus Apella), Sean Patrick Coyne
Honors Theses
Primates as a taxonomic Order have the largest brains corrected for body size in the animal kingdom. These large brains have allowed primates to evolve the capacity to demonstrate advanced cognitive processes across a wide array of abilities. Nonhuman primates are particularly adept at social learning, defined as the modification of behavior by observing the actions of others. Additionally, primates often exploit resources differently depending on their social context. In this study, capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) were tested on a cognitive task in three social contexts to determine if social context influenced their performance on the task. The three social …
The Effects Of Altered Prenatal Melatonin Signaling On Adult Behavior And Hippocampal Gene Expression Of The Male Rat: A Circadioneuroendocrine-Axis Hypothesis Of Psychopathology, Josh Ripple
Honors Theses
Disturbances in melatonin - the neurohormone that signals environmental darkness as part of the circadian circuit of mammals - have been implicated in various psychopathologies in humans. At present, experimental evidence linking prenatal melatonin signaling to adult physiology, behavior, and gene expression is lacking. We hypothesized that administration of melatonin (5 mg/kg) or the melatonin receptor antagonist luzindole (5 mg/kg) to rats in utero would permanently alter the circadian circuit to produce differential growth, adult behavior, and hippocampal gene expressionin the male rat. Prenatal treatment was found to increase growth in melatonin-treated animals. In addition, subjects exposed to melatonin prenatally …

"Hey, Hey, He Gay, He Gay . . . Okay" . . . Or Is It?: The Sociological Importance Of Bruno, Chris Bishop
Honors Theses
Sacha Baron Cohen is a British comedian who has garnered a great deal of controversy over the years. Through his characters, Ali G, Borat, and Bruno, he attempts to trick people into letting down their guards and revealing any prejudices (racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, misogyny, et cetera) that they may have. In doing so, each of his three characters has sparked a debate concerning the different issues they bring up: with Ali G, it was whether the character was racist or exposed racism; with Borat, it was whether the character was anti-Semitic or revealed anti-Semitism; and with Bruno, it is whether …
Income, Trade And Pollution In Central Asia, Russia And China: An Econometric Analysis, Tisorn Songsermsawas
Income, Trade And Pollution In Central Asia, Russia And China: An Econometric Analysis, Tisorn Songsermsawas
Honors Theses
The study performs a panel estimation of the relationship between per capita income, trade, and airborne pollution in the five Central Asian nations, Russia and China between 1992 and 2008. First, this study uses an environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis (EKC)- an inverted-U relationship between the increase in income and the level of environmental degradation - to examine how income and pollution are related. Second, the study uses a gravity model to estimate the effect of a regional trade agreement (Shanghai Cooperation Organization: SCO) on incomes and carbon dioxide emissions in the region. Empirical analysis confirms the existence of the rising …
The Blue Of, Chrissy Reilly
The Blue Of, Chrissy Reilly
Honors Theses
When I first started my thesis, I intended for my finished project to be a compilation of poems that aims to reflect and reveal several repeating themes of our society's collective unconscious, such as the relationship between the physical and spiritual aspects of being and the representation of women's lives, organized religion, adolescence, and mental illness. I proposed writing a chapbook of poetry that reflects an exploration of, and sensitivity to, the human unconscious mind, fears, and desires. Consulting other works of surreal, lyric, and confessional poetry, I sought to personallydevelop as both a poet and a psychology student. I made …
Semantic Categorization Of Unfamiliar Tunes In Older And Younger Adults, Samantha Ann Deffler
Semantic Categorization Of Unfamiliar Tunes In Older And Younger Adults, Samantha Ann Deffler
Honors Theses
The process of learning the categories of new tunes in older and younger adults was examined for this study. Tunes were presented either one or three times along with a category name to see if multiple repetitions aid in category memory. Additionally, toexamine if an association may help some listeners, especially older ones, to better remember category information, some tunes were presented with a short associative fact; this fact was either neutral or emotional. Participants were tested on song recognition, fact recognition, and category memory. For all tasks, there was a benefit of three presentations. There were no age differences in …
The Catholic Doctrine Of Transubstantiation: An Exposition And Defense, Pat Selwood
The Catholic Doctrine Of Transubstantiation: An Exposition And Defense, Pat Selwood
Honors Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to offer both an exposition and defense for the Catholic Church's traditional understanding of eucharistic transubstantiation. I hope to show how a belief in such a doctrine is in no way irrational nor is it indefensible; butinstead, the doctrine of transubstantiation makes sense when it is viewed in light of what Catholic Christians believe about who the human being is, what the human desires, and the special way in which God personally works in human history. The method I am following investigates how the doctrine of transubstantiation coheres with and follows the other beliefs …
Implementing The Good Friday Agreement: Overcoming Challenges And Obstacles, Joseph Michael Debraggio
Implementing The Good Friday Agreement: Overcoming Challenges And Obstacles, Joseph Michael Debraggio
Honors Theses
On April 10, 1998, history was made in Northern Ireland. Years of sectarian violence would end as the Belfast Agreement, known more popularly (and perhaps more fittingly due to the religious identities defining the two sides) as the Good Friday Agreement, was signed bringing peace to Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland Office, 2007). This paper will look at the Good Friday Agreement in detail. By analyzing the historical factors leading up to 1998, the Agreement itself, and the post-Agreement implementation stage,it is possible to pick out the relative successes and failures of the Agreement, and of its implementation.
Vibrational Spectroscopic Monitoring Of Co2-O Energy Transfer: Cooling Processes In Atmospheres Of Venus & Mars, Jakob Aaron Schaeffer
Vibrational Spectroscopic Monitoring Of Co2-O Energy Transfer: Cooling Processes In Atmospheres Of Venus & Mars, Jakob Aaron Schaeffer
Honors Theses
The vibrational excitation of CO2 by a fast-moving O atom followed by infrared emission from the vibrationally excited CO2 has been shown to be an important cooling mechanism in the upper atmospheresof Venus, Earth and Mars. We are trying to determine more precisely the efficiency (rate coefficient) of the CO2-O vibrational energy transfer. For experimental ease the reverse reaction is used, i.e. collision of a vibrationally excited CO2 with atomic O, where we are able to convert to the atmospherically relevant reaction via a known equilibrium constant. The goal of this experiment was to measure the magnitudes of rate coefficients …
Tarnishing The Golden Stool, Fenna Maximiliane Wächter
Tarnishing The Golden Stool, Fenna Maximiliane Wächter
Honors Theses
This thesis deals with the Asante federation (in modern-day Ghana ) in the nineteenth century, within the wider context of a general crisis of authority in African states in the later partof the century. African states were fighting against the external pressures of European imperial expansion while facing internal challenges to their structures of power. Asante was one of these states and this thesis examines why, because of a particular combination of internal and external challenges, Asante was unable to maintain its independence at the end of the nineteenth century.
The Fundamental Gap For Hyperbolic Triangles, Dennis Stuart Fillebrown
The Fundamental Gap For Hyperbolic Triangles, Dennis Stuart Fillebrown
Honors Theses
In 1983, M. van den Berg made his Fundamental Gap Conjecture about the difference between the first two Dirichlet eigenvalues (the fundamental gap) of any convex domain in the Euclidean plane. Recently, progress has been made in the case where the domains are polygons and, in particular, triangles. We examine the conjecture for triangles in hyperbolic geometry, though we seek an for an upper bound for the fundamental gap rather than a lower bound.
Exploring The Life Of Edith Fetherston Through Her Clothing, Breanna Eckley
Exploring The Life Of Edith Fetherston Through Her Clothing, Breanna Eckley
Honors Theses
This research is an examination of the life of Edith Fetherston through studying her clothing and comparing her clothes to fashion history. The authors of Survey of Historic Costume, Tortora and Eubank, state that: 'Dress serves as a means of communication,' and that 'historic dress provides readers with some context for the period in which costumes were worn'. Most importantly, they state that clothing is 'a glimpse of attitudes and values as they were expressed by individuals of [a] period.' (4). Studying clothing history is a way to understand the attitudes of the times; it has a relationship with the …

A wonderful songwriter, performer, and overall musician, Dickens saw her career, music, and beliefs as inextricably linked, and so this thesis will explore her leadership by analyzing her songs and her history.
Person Perception Of Leaders With Adult Adhd, Maxwell P. Teschke
Person Perception Of Leaders With Adult Adhd, Maxwell P. Teschke
Honors Theses
Following this review of the literature this thesis describes three empirical investigations into people's beliefs about individuals who are diagnosed with the Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and the relationship between those beliefs and leadership perceptions and judgments. In addition to documenting the content of the ADHD beliefs, the work will also test the hypothesis that the qualities stereotypically associated with ADHD are incongruent with those qualities individuals spontaneously and intuitively associate with leadership. A third study then considers the experience of individuals who are diagnosed as experiencing ADHD but also hold positions of leadership. By the end of …
Persuasion And Rhetoric In Cable News Commentary: A Philosophical, Zachary Mark Cruthirds
Persuasion And Rhetoric In Cable News Commentary: A Philosophical, Zachary Mark Cruthirds
Honors Theses
There is currently a growing cynicism about objectivity in cable news reporting and commentary, and there have been many allegations of pandering and bias on the part of and concerning commentators on 24-hour news outlets. There have been changing trends in how many American citizens acquire information and analysis from these mediums—leading to what has been coined the '‘infotainment*' of certain comedians, extremists, and any network, corporation, or commentator who would give consideration to giving a target audience what they desire or expect. In the following thesis, we will offer definitions for rhetoric and persuasion founded in a type of …

The Effects Of Neighboring Bases On Pdc In Single-Stranded And Double-Stranded Dna, Elizabeth Kelty Jones
The Effects Of Neighboring Bases On Pdc In Single-Stranded And Double-Stranded Dna, Elizabeth Kelty Jones
Honors Theses
To examine the dsDNA to ssDNA equilibrium in the context of a functional piece of DNA, we use the simple case of the hairpin/cmciform structure formed in the terminator of the beta-galactosidase gene in the cloning vector pBR322. The scheme for constructing the PdC-plasmids utilizes restriction nucleases. The pBR322 is first mutated in two locations (3175 and 3285) on the same strand of DNA using a PCR-based process. These locations flank the known cruciform extrusion site. The mutated plasmid is then digested by the nicking enzyme Nb.BbvCI, which introduces two cut sites on the same strand of the DNA. Next, …

Replacement Of The Cro Repressor In A Negative Feedback Circuit With A Slow Dimerizing Variant, Lauren Michelle Rowe
Replacement Of The Cro Repressor In A Negative Feedback Circuit With A Slow Dimerizing Variant, Lauren Michelle Rowe
Honors Theses
The Cro protein is a transcriptional regulator that plays an active role in the switch between the lysogenic and lytic viral cycles of bacteriophage lambda. Functional Cro proteins exist as dimers composed of two identical Cro subunits. It is suspected that the dimerization rate and the affinity of Cro’s subunits play a part in determining the activity of the protein in living cells. Synthetic genetic circuits have been constructed in order to determine the repression dynamics of Cro in vivo. These circuits are used to observe the ability of wild-type Cro and a pre-dimerized variant named scCro to modulate the …

Investigating The Stability Of Energy Metabolism In Cultured Neurons: Do Cerebellar Granuleneurons Maintain A Metabolic Steady State In The Early Stages Of Apoptosis?, Adrienne Lorraine Webb
Honors Theses
Apoptosis is a process that occurs naturally during development of an organism and is a specific type of programmed cell death that characterized by its distinct morphological features. However, inappropriate inhibition or activation can result in various pathological conditions. For example, studies have shown links between inactivation of some pro-apoptotic proteins and certain cancers. Also, overstimulation of apoptosis has been linked to many neurodegenerative disorders. Therefore, a clearer understanding of the process of apoptosis could provide new avenues for the treatment of these diseases that have been linked to it. The signaling involved in triggering apoptosis involves many proteins that …
