An examination of public service advertising (PSA), and some factors affecting it, was made. Psychological topics important to public service advertising, such as: attitude change, motives, and personality traits were reviewed. The impact of four communication variables, source, message, channel and receiver, were also examined. Finally, examples of successful PSA campaigns were analyzed. Recommendations to improve the effectiveness of future public service advertising were made.

Student's Perceptions And Experiences Of Sexual Harassment At The University Of Tennessee At Chattanooga, Wendy W. Davis

This research was conducted to examine students' perceptions and experiences of sexual harassment in higher education. The study was designed and administered in such a way as to address four concerns which have not been effectively handled in previous studies. These specific concerns are as follows: (a) the nonrandom selection of students, (b) the exclusion of males in samples, (c) the limited number of research methods used, and (d) the lack of a standardized definition for sexual harassment. The first three issues focus on the need to obtain representative samples of the college population.

In an attempt to display the range of concerns and interests regarding rebirth, I plan to make a brief and sampled survey of a few select schools and sects of Buddhism. More emphasis will be placed on Indian Buddhism as it was here that much of the debates raged and were settled for the descendant forms of Buddhism in other parts of the globe, namely China and Japan. Spatial And Temporal Distribution Of Hydrogen Peroxide In The Equatorial Pacific Ocean, Renee Blanchard

The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the Equatorial Pacific was determined fluorometrically using the horseradish peroxidase catalyzed dimerization of (p-hydroxyphenyl)acetic acid. Vertical profiles were obtained between 9 ON and 3 oS on a longitudinal transect along 140 oW during June and July of 1990 on the RN Wecoma. Peroxide concentrations ranged from 25-80 nmol/L at the surface and decreased to the detection limit of 1 nmol/L at a depth of about 200 meters. Diel variations of hydrogen peroxide in the surface waters were observed over the period of 8 days. The variation in surface concentration may be attributed to the …

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate similarities between types of withdrawal symptoms from broken relationships with symptoms across addictive types of behaviors. If similarities can be found then this will help in condensing information from the different types of addictive behaviors and commonalities among addictions may emerge. In this present study it is hypothesized that there shall be no significant difference between withdrawal symptoms of broken relationships and withdrawal symptoms across addictive use of psychoactive drugs.

This study was an attempt to show that enriched rats can learn a three dimensional object visual discrimination DMTS and DNMTS task. The task utilized toys from the EC for sample objects on an alternating arm Y-maze. Any subjects which were successful in learning the task were to then be tested as to the effects of reversible inactivation of the hippocampus on the performance of these tasks.

A moderately large family, the Ranunculaceae contains 1750 temperate species with many of its genera represented in the southeastern United States (Gleason, 1952). Sixteen genera are native to Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia and it is these members of the Ranunculaceae that are the focus of my study. The feasibility of using solid-phase resins for monitoring concentrations of pesticides in water was examined. Efforts were made to ascertain relationships between concentrations of a pesticide (methoxychlor) in water and on a resin (AXD-2) under laboratory conditions. Solutions of pesticide in water were drawn through columns of resin. Methylene Chloride was used to absorb the pesticide from the resin. Gas chromatography and ultraviolet spectrophotometry were used to measure concentrations of pesticide.

The role of biological components as related to language processes has received increased attention in recent years. Evidence from a variety of different methodologies has indicated the presence of early hemisphere differences in young infants. Yet the relationship between such early differences and later language development has remained unclear although several recent reports suggest a marked relationship between the two. The present paper examined the relationship between such lateralized responses in young infants and performance on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary test at three years of age.

The purpose of this study is to transcend the trait and affective boundaries in order to account for the situational and cognitive variables which provoke the responses elicited by jealous emotion. The focus of the study is comprised of two major objectives: (1). To discover and define the structural dimensions associated with people's conceptions of jealous situations and (2) to deter mine whether there are gender differences in the interpretation and conceptualization of jealous emotion. For twenty five years, analyses of the link between Sylvia Plath's life and writings have too often focused on selected rebellious incidents and a handful of poems written in the last six months of her llfe. These shallow and often sensational literary autopsies reach seemingly pre-determined conclusions about Plath and usually blame Plath's mother, her husband, and male-dominated 1940s and 1950s America for the vitriolic tone of her writings and for her suicide at age thirty. Lectins are proteins of non-immune origin, which bind to specific carbohydrates (McCoy, 1986). Being that virtually all cell membranes contain carbohydrate components, lectins have been used to identify all types of cells. The eighteen southeastern genera of the Ranuncuiaceae famiiy yielded eight evolutionary trees when analyzed using the PENNY routine of the PHYLIP program with a data matrix of 19 genera by 41 characters. Each tree required 70 steps, and the trees were the most parsimonious found for the data.

The purpose of this study was to describe the form and location of wing-flashing behavior in mockingbirds and to identify differences in flashing between young and adult birds through film analysis techniques and observation. Subjects consisted of 50 mockingbirds from the University of Richmond campus. Analyses of the data suggested that there were three types of wing-flashes based on degree of wing extension. Flashes were most likely to occur in direct sunlight and in grass. No significant differences in the form of flashes between adult and juvenile mockingbirds were found.
